THB GOOD GRADES LEADS TO HOLISTIC ACHIEVEMENTS

Speakers 1

The need to get good grades is a common topic of conversation among our society nowadays. With
how fast our world is evolving right now, nobody can deny that GOOD GRADES LEADS TO HOLISTIC
ACHIEVEMENTS in student’s life towards better future not just for themselves but also effected society
and our country development in general.

As I already mention clearly our main topic of the day just now, I would like to continue my further
explanation as the first speaker of the affirmative team. My first highlight is the definition of good grade, it
means the highest rating of quality, worth, rank or order of things or how well someone performed in their
respective written or oral trial or test. Whereas holistic achievements can be defined as the highest level of
person intellectual, emotional, social, physical, artistic, creative and spiritual potentials that can be archive
by certain standard of qualities that people agreed on.

We, the affirmative team, believe the fact that good grades lead to holistic achievement is true.
Growing up and living life throughout education system, students are told that good grades are essential on
getting into a good university and at the later life can become lifeline to get good jobs for sustainable living.
I know names such Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerburg, and Steve Jobs that dropped out of university and went on
to be wildly successful might be mention by the opposition later regarding this topic, but we need to fully
understand that if we look through the background history, they are very talented in academics before they
started their venture in their respective field.

Now, with my second points on good grades, as all us know, grades are important for entrance of
matriculations, diploma dan degree level in our country. Like it or not, our high school grades are important
signals for admissions into tertiary level in paving students future achievement. Grades in university level
also are important for graduate school and many highly selective corporations. With limited spots available
for thousands of applicants, grade criteria are an easy selection process determining who gets a chance.

Dear opposition team, to sum up my points here, road of success is always under construction, and the
materials use are of course the good grades that we collected from our hard work and determination. I strongly believe
nothing comes easy in life. Common people like you and me need to strive for our academic success by getting good
grade in order to achieve success in life. With that I end my part, thank you.
Second speaker

Based on the topic we are discussing now; GOOD GRADES LEADS TO HOLISTIC
ACHIEVEMENTS. I would like to highlight few loopholes of your points just now.

Getting good grades is a common topic of conversation among students, teachers and parents. Why
this kind of topic become their main concern? As the saying goes, everything happens for a reason.
Fundamentally good grades prepare students to thrive today and transform the future. If we really
understand this sentence, the topic of today should be not discuss no more as it already shows how important
good grade to majority of people in our country. Not all of us are born in a silver spoon, everybody needs to
start somewhere, and that place is in our education system that always evolving. Most of successful
individuals today crawl their wits out of this system and emerge among successful people we recognize
today. One of that individuals is none other than our beloved Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir bin
Mohamad. He started with a very humble beginning and excel throughout his studies and of course his good
grade. He then become a well-known doctor and the rest are becoming history that we can be proud of.

I believe my dear opposition team is looking forward to hearing my further points. No worries, the
times have come. I am using our respected Prime Minister as example because by giving real-life example,
my team and I can provide motivation for other students to study hard today. There are two main benefits I
can use to jump-start our horizon on looking at this topic. Good grades open the door to future opportunities.
If our students strive to do well in anything set before them, they will have more career opportunities. And
yet, many teens just don't see the need to do well in school right at this moment. Sometimes they say things
like, "I'm going to get into sales. I won't ever need geometry," or "I'm going in the military. They don't care
about their grades." We need make it clear that even if those things are true, there may be times when our
students grades do matter. For instance, students may want to go to university someday or apply for a job
where their transcripts will be reviewed. Make it clear that it is important to keep as many opportunities
open as possible by getting good grades especially in public examination such as SPM and STPM.

Good grades may lead to a better social life. Students who care about their grades will earn the
respect of their teachers and their peers. As affirmative team, we need to talk and highlight to students about
successful people who did well academically in education ecosystem. This kind of encouragement can affect
them positively rather than providing few examples of minority that become successful without good grade
in academics. We need to understand clearly that as government my team need to make the right choice for
correct setting of mindset for our people. We need make it clear that people with good grades as a student
often go on to do great things in the future. Who in their wildest imagination can think of a person with
humble beginning such as our Prime Minister to use good achievement in academic to persuade his ambition
to become Malaysia Prime Minister not for just 22 years before resignation in 2003 but after 15 years later,
He still able to make a comeback to become our Prime Minister for a second time. There is a saying
mentioning there is no short cut to success and by using good grade it will be a boost to students to achieve
something better for their future. Thank you.
Speaker 3

I would like to start my turn with saying that I quote from Pericles, who was a prominent and
influential Greek statesman, orator and general of Athens during its golden age. He said

“What you leave behind is not what is engraved on stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives
of  others.”

This quote clearly informs us success that we try to archive is not for a show but at the same time will
create impact to others around us. As what already mention by my 1 st speaker, based on the topic of GOOD
GRADES LEADS TO HOLISTIC ACHIEVEMENTS. Good grade for sure can open vast possibilities if we work hard for it.
There no sentence of too late in learning. Some might start at primary school and some might start later in their
point of education life. Just we need to remember that quitting is not an opinion. By diligently pushing ourselves
toward success with good grade it will also call forth confidence and determination to move further on the road of
success.

We never know how our success in achieving good grade will affect other until we able to see it with our
eyes. As I am borrowing my 1st speaker words, what happen to ‘majority’ of us is what the most important focus for
the government rather than using few minority examples who achieve success without good education grade. To
build up a strong nation from aspects of economically, technologically and scientifically. The stress of how majority
able to become success from the start holistically is very important.

"shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still be among the stars"

I am in love with this phrase as this specific phrase can reflect the overall content of this discussion
as how my 2nd speaker shared his/her thought. As we preparing to become develop country soon, the
numbers of high achievers in education system need to be double. Who are these high achievers? They are
students that able to score good grade from all level of education that we have right now.

Never in any history of a nation to abandon under achievers as this kind of people still can be
considered as successful if they even excel in their own level of performance. We are who we think we are!
As already been mention, how can good grade can become reflection of how holistically a person can
become, we have our Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, Datuk Nicol Ann David squash
champion, Yunalis Mat Zara’ai also knows as Yuna Malaysia international singer, Dato Sri Tony Fernandez
Ceo of Air Asia Group, Dr Nur Adlyka Ainul Annuar part of research team that found supermassive black
hole and the list goes on without end. One question I want to ask, who are this people if not among thousand
of good grade archiver with holistic achievements that not for themselves but also example to others. With
that I close what my teammates started with this sentence, don’t let bad grade define your abilities, it is a
minor setback. How you choose to overcome it, is what apart you from the rest. Thank you.
