1. Introduction
The ‘Woolloongabba Fiveways Mobility Improvement Feasibility Design Study’ project is
conducted to improve the Woolloongabba Fiveways existing condition. This project is
divided into two parts, Grade Separation and Mobility System. The Grade Separation will be
applied in the form of revitalization of the existing bus station such that it is moved
underground including the entrance and exit ways. However, the mobility system is
improving the mobility within and through the area.
Team 81 is assessed to evaluate and analyze the Grade Separation part of the project from
structural engineer point of view. The team will act as a consultant that will assess the
project whether it is feasible to execute or not.

2.2.Qualitative Analysis
Qualitative Assessments Explanation
Safety Ensuring the safety of all the parties that involved and
affected by the project, such as the workers, road users,
pedestrians, visitors, etc. during project execution.
Aesthetics The analyses of the appearance of the construction should be
conducted to ensure it comply with the surrounding area.
Accessibility Ease of access is one of the important aspect that should be
considered since it is one of the goals for this project
Environmental Impact This project will affect the surrounded environment directly
and indirectly. Hence the damaging impact should be
minimalized
Choice of Materials The choice of materials should be considering the cost-
effectiveness and the sustainability
Efficiency Assess the level of efficiency of the methods used in the
project
Table 2 Qualitative Assessment
2.3.Quantitative Analysis
Quantitative Assessment Explanation
Budgeting A quantitative analysis to predict how much money will be
spent during the project execution. This included the
operational cost, set up cost, etc.
Quantities of Material The calculation of material quantities should be conducted.
This will anticipate the excess amount of the material that
being used in this project. Quantities of material will also
affect the budgeting assessment
Time and Scheduling Gantt chart is included to ensure the progress stick to the
timeline and the project finished on time.
Loads To calculate the structural component capability of handling
the load caused by pedestrians, transportation, and other
facilities
Capacity To predict the number of users that can be accommodated in
peak hour in order to gain the user satisfaction.
Design Life To anticipate the development in the future, the facilities
should be designed for a certain life span. This design life will
predict how long these facilities will survive before a
refurbishment should be conducted.

Stakeholders Explaniation
Brisbane City Council The Client of this project. This party have a
broad concern on the project but key
consideration for them is the cost and

efficiency
Public This is the main consumer of the project,
public will concern more about the
functionality, safety, and accessibility.
Local Business The construction will affect the local
business in such affecting the number of
customer, etc.
Contractor Consider as ‘executor’ of this project.
Interested in profit, efficiency, and safety of
the workers
Heritage Council This party will concern about how the
construction process affecting the heritage
site nearby.
Environmental Council Concern on the impact of the construction
to the environment surrounding.
Worker Union The main concern of the worker union is
the safety and the rights of workers
Local Resident The local resident concert more about the
effect of the construction for their daily
activities. They concern more in certain
things such as noise level, security,

Guidelines:

a) Peak Hours : the maximum traffic flow occur during peak hours. Hence the
designed capacity is based on this. Otherwise, reduced congestion could not be
achieved
b) Weekends : there might be a significant change in the number of pedestrian
and cyclist during the weekend. Hence the pedestrian walkway must be planned
properly to anticipate it.
c) Major Events : Events occurring at the Gabba could produce a heavier traffic than
the normal traffic flow.
The main reason for this decision is, in few years there are several transportation modes
expected to be operated such as Brisbane Metro in 2022, Cross River Rail (CRR) in 2024,
Woolloongabba Bikeway Project in late 2018.

1. Underpass along the Stanley St. and pedestrian bridge from bus station to The
Gabba Stadium
An underpass will allow busses and cars that go through the Stanley St. move
without any interruption from the traffic light. Hence, it also reduces the cycle time
of the traffic light there that will reduce the bulking effect. Come up with this
underpass, a pedestrian and cyclist bride that connect between the bus station and
the Gabba Stadium. This bridge will minimalize the pedestrian interference on the
traffic light. However, congestion might be occurred during the construction process
due to lane closing on the Stanley St.
2. Overpass from Main St. to Ipswich Road.
The concept of this overpass is exactly the same as the underpass. However, a
heavier congestion might be occurred since it needs a lot of space to construct the
overpass. Furthermore, a heritage site that lies near the intersection make this
option not feasible. The site might be damaged due to the construction.
3. Relocate the Woolloongabba Bus Station to the Underground
Relocation of the bus station to underneath the park will be the most suitable and
efficient solution to reduce the congestion. It includes the relocation of the entrance
and exit ways of the bus station such that it will not interrupt the traffic light on the
cross intersection. The relocation of the entrance and exit of bus station will also
reduce the traffic flow of the bus on the corresponding road. The construction
process will interrupt the traffic less since the construction will be started on the
park using a top down method. For the tunnel construction, a bottom up tunnel
construction will be used to reduce the impact to the existing surroundings.

5. Conclusion
The main aim of this Feasibility Design Study is to evaluate and analyze the most feasible and
effective solution for ‘Woolloongabba Fiveways’. This includes the most efficient
construction method that will be applied. By having a feasibility study completed, the client
will have a general understanding of the project and aware of the risk that might be
occurred in this project.
We strongly recommend the feasibility study should be conducted to minimalize the losses
and problems. Our professional capabilities in working plan, scheduling and managing
people will ensure the project objective meets the efficiency and the requirements.
