Scientology is the first entirely
Western effort to understand life. All
previous efforts came from Asia or
Eastern Europe. And they failed.
None of them could change human
behaviour for the better. Now for
the first time, we are able to
accomplish this.
This is the first time - on this planet
certainly and, I think, the first time in this
universe — that sentient beings were
capable of bettering themselves without
worsening somebody else.
Most people wonder how they can
endure the thing they can't change. Now
the one thing that Scientology can do, and
the one thing that it does do, is change
conditions. If there is anything that
Scientology does at all, it is change
conditions.
Everybody on earth has problems. They
Would not be human if they didn't.
Scientology has slashed through the
complexities which have been erected for
men and has bared the core of these
problems. Scientology helps people to
come up to handling their problems,
instead of being handled by them. So
something can be done about maladjust-
ment, poor behaviour, poor control and
human relations. If you could just drive
that message home, "something can be
done about this", you would have
accomplished more in getting people into
two-way communication with you and
Scientology than almost anything else you
could do. The point where an individual is
aware of the need of change in his life is
the point where he can become a
Scientologist.
Scientology is an effort toward the
attainment, by Man, of a level of freedom
where decency and happiness can prevail.

Where we have made the breakthrough,
and where we have made progress, we have
made progress in how to accomplish the
goals which Man has had as long as he has
been Man. What he has considered good
and what he has considered desirable in the
field of philosophy, we have accomplished
technically, and that is the breakthrough
which we have made.
We have now arrived, in Scientology, at
a point where Man should have been for
the last five thousand years. We have the
technology for changing conditions. We
have actually thrown away more material
than Man has ever developed in all of his
history. You've got enough auditing tools
now to be effective to the end of your
days.
There's a tremendous amount of
understanding involved here. There are
millions of words written on this subject.
There's theory and practice, and the
training drills and the other things one has
to get done. If an auditor realizes how
much he knows about it, at length, he's
pretty staggered. Now the moment a
person goes to a Communication Course
and starts in on his Hubbard Apprentice
Scientologist Course, he is already walking
a track which is higher than the track to
Clear.
Casewise, he is tremendously inferior to
a Clear. He has to put up with things a
Clear doesn't have to put up with at all. It's
quite amazing that the greatest skill and
the greatest ease appear the most casual,
the simplest and the least difficult — until
you go out and try to walk a high wire a
hundred feet above the sawdust! If a
person learns to audit before he is Clear
and still has aberrations, he has done
something that a Clear has no opportunity
to do. He has been able to confront his
own case while confronting the case of

somebody else and keeping the show on
the road at the same time. This is the
greatest high wire feat in human history.
Even a slightly trained auditor is
superior to Homo sapiens. A slightly
trained auditor willing to do his job, willing
to help people, is senior to a Clear.
There has never been a more sincere
group on the face of the planet. We
wouldn't have started on auditing if we
weren't good people and wanted to help
our fellow man. You can go to almost any
person practising Scientology and receive
some part of the benefit inherent in this
subject. He will try decently, and he will
make the best changes he can accomplish
take place in your case.
We have here an intensely sincere group
with a fine ethical background. We are
trying, we are honest, we are decent.
The professional auditor is the cream of
the profession. Professional auditing is the
top activity. The basics are very few.
There's such things as asking an auditing
question, getting it answered. This is
fundamental . . . being able to make the
person being audited reel better. Auditing
is basically communication. We have the
vast, vast advantage today of knowing what
communication can do, and how to use it.
We've been given this priceless chance. We
must make good.
Scientology can be contested, but
Scientology cannot be ignored. It could
nejther be drowned in praise, nor burned in
some purge to its total eradication. Because
Scientology's basic purposes, from the
moment of its conception, have been
dedicated unswervingly to the attainment
of even greater freedom, it cannot perish.
Don't worry about your being on the
road to truth and that it's a very
adventurous line. The truth of the matter
is, we're there. That road is behind us.

of stamina. It takes a certain amount of

And you can expect excitement — too
much in some places. You can expect that
to happen every now and again. But just
keep going!
We are moving toward the attainment by
man of a new level of freedom, decency,
and happiness. We can do it. And it is a.lot
more than worthwhile — it is vital that we
do it. If we miss now, we may be finished.
For there is no help elsewhere, and there
has never been this technology or any
successful mental technology, until now.
And just now nobody cares but us.
Scientology auditors are dedicated and
sincere in getting the job done, and we are
the first people to appear on Earth, since
its first solidification out of nebulous
vapourings, who can get the job done and
who know what we are doing. The very
truth that we know, its simplicity and ease
of grasp, the very honesty with which we
approach our task, are probably the largest
barriers we have to overcome. Man has
been defrauded so often, persuaded so
wrongly, and has returned to the same old
rut so inevitably and in such a defeated
frame of mind, that he is not able to grasp

auditor which is being reached out toward
him. It will take more auditors, and better
understanding on all our parts to get this
task done. But we will do it.
