INTRODUCTION
Four years in Foreign Trade University have given me a lot of useful theoretical
knowledge about economics in general as well as specific knowledge in international
trade, logistics and international transportation. Therefore, the midterm internship is a
valuable chance for me to check my academic results and simultaneously have a look
at real life situations to make comparisons, base on which I can have a better
preparation before official enter the labour market.

The five–week internship at JAMJA JSC, JAMJA.VN was very precious to me.
With the help from the leader as well as other staffs of partnerships, together with the
support from Ms. Dam Thi Kim Dung for enthusiastic guidance, comments, data
provision and valuable experiences during my internship at the company.

Especially, I would like to express my sincere thanks to Assoc. Pro., Dr. Trinh
Thi Thu Huong – The person who wholeheartedly guided, contributed ideas and
answered questions for me.

Despite continuous efforts, due to the limited capacity, level and duration of the
study and internship, shortcomings can hardly be avoided. I look forward to receiving
your comments in search of progress in writing reports.

Thank you sincerely!

CHAPTER 2: INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW AND DIARY
2.1. Objectives of the Internship
Prior to this internship, I had made some of my own achievements after 5 weeks
there: accumulating as much knowledge and experience as possible about the subject
matter of e–commerce platform, understand the professional working evironment
under work pressure and fixed schedule as well as being rolated and allowed to
experience different activities in order to get to know and find my correct future career
path.

In my university days, I have joined several clubs and organizations with

diverse backgrounds that help me a lot in daily life, by which I make up my mind to
choose Sales Executive as my goal in the future. When I applied for JAMJA as a
Partnership Intern, I expected so much that I could learn the professional of both
Marketing, Sales and Customer Success. I were fully aware that one of the most
fearsome challenges was having to get accustomed to the high pressure of the working
environment. But with the aforementioned aim, I intend to broaden my knowledge of
the profession during my internship to the greatest extent, even if it goes with high
pressure and responsibility. For this month, my strength and weakness in relation to
this field will be tested. Hopefully, I will be able to realize a suitable direction for my
future after graduation.

What I have learnt after 5 weeks is way much more than what I could ever
imagine. As this is my official job, I have learnt much more than what I expected not
only the professional work, but also the other support as Sales process as well as the
behavior and attitude towards other people.

2.2. Duties and Responsibilities

For the internship, I have been a Partnership Intern at JAMJA. The activities I’m
assigned mostly vary everyday as my direct supervisor wants me to learn the most out
of my intership period. However, my most importanc goal is to find and approach our
partners, also make sure that we have as many as merchants (stores and restaurants) to
meet our customers’ demands. My tasks are included but not limited to:

 Search, meet, advise and close contracts to run electronic coupon program and
promotion in the field of restaurant chain, fashion and e–commerce on
JAMJA.VN website.
 Participate in developing appropriate development strategy for each period of
the company
 Build and maintain relationships with potential customers, current customers of
the company.
 Support contract paperworks for full–time partnership executive
My schedule is 6 days every week, starting from 8:00 to 17:30 with all odd
Saturdays are off. Nevertheless, extra time to be expected. Working from home or
remote working is sometimes needed due to the urgent level of the task. That’s what
we call “The start-up spirit”.

3.3. JAMJA business results
Basically, we run everything based on technology, huge data comes back to the
JAMJA.VN website everyday. Therefore, from basic to advanced in order to complete
and improve our jobs effectivity and efficiency.
In JAMJA, the figures we care about most are Media revenue, Commission fees
from merchants, GMV (Gross Merchandise Value) and Take–rate (Take–rate = (Media
+ Commission)/ GMV)

3.4. Partnership’s KPIs and Incentives

Figure : Partnership’s KPIs data

(Source: Partnership Department, JAMJA JSC)

Having the KPIs data results, we can easily find out the problems of our
partnership team when any of those figures does not meet the previous week’s target.
Based on that, our team has to have a meeting on every Monday to make out the
problems occurring. Because it’s really easy and boring if we repeat the same work
everyweek. We basically fail our own targets as well. Therefore, it’s essential to keep
ourself updated and then develop new solutions as well.
In JAMJA, we do divide our KPI targets into segments to easily control and
give incentives. The segmentation of each member will be based on their previous
week performance and results.
3.5. JAMJA supporting service
We have a JAMJA.VN website where we can see the all merchants we are
cooperating. Looking at the figures of real changing codes numbers, Gross
Merchandise Value (GMV), communication efficiency to be with Customer success
team to give merchants the advice and support them about advertisement as well.
3.6. Reflection and rating
What I have learnt in JAMJA is way beyond my expectation for an internship. I
have learnt so much not just academic and professional work but also other essential
soft skills that will definitely help me in my future. I have achieved all of my objectives
with average to good degree. And fortunately, I have finished all the assigned tasks
very well.
I also take advantage of the time available to study online courses as well as
read more reading material from the precessors. The new knowledge to learn is
endless, but the time spent in the training process is not so much. Self–study is highly
recommended. In general, comparing what I have done compared to the work assigned,
I evaluate myself to complete a relatively good. There are undeniable failure
throughout my internship, but the lessons learned and values gained therefrom are
certainly helpful.
3.7. Results and experience
In the process of working to achieve my results as well as doing other
assignments, I have accumulated a wealth of experience, including soft skills and
academic rigor. Soft skills are the kind of skills that every individual student must
equip before entering any professional work environment. However, it may be that
these preparations are more theoretical than practical. The practice period is the time
spent practicing soft skills that have been prepared beforehand and making it a personal
skill. Through the internship, I have acquired essential soft skills such as
communication skills, negotiating skills and job exchanges or computer skills. This is
because the business environment is different from the school environment, giving me
the opportunity to interact and experience, thereby drawing on my own experience.
More specifically, at work, I need to improve her communication skills to
communicate more effectively with colleagues to get more information about the work,
shorten the time needed to communicate. At the same time, my negotiating and
persuasive skills are also improved when negotiating work with drivers or other staffs
within the company. In addition, my computer skills are improved through several
daily tasks such as making reports, conducting events figures.
Apart from soft skills, my academic knowledge after the internship period has
also increased significantly. It can be said that after the internship, I can have a
background of knowledge to work as Sales executive such the basic process, ways to
communicate with others, how to deal with people and balance the compensations and
benefits. Moreover, I also have time to read the materials and study more deeply about
other knowledge in many fields such as start–up business, business trend, business
administration.
All the results, skills and experience that I have gained through the rehearsal are
important and valuable to me in the future.
3.8. Recommendation for better Internship for FTU
This practice gave me a lot of experience and valuable lessons even for five
weeks. Being an undergraduate student, my experience and skills are not much but the
mid-term practice is a great opportunity for me as well as other students to imagine a
professional working environment right from the beginning. Early on, I plan to
improve myself and train myself more. However, I would like to have some
suggestions for our university to improve the quality of our intership program.
Firstly, 5 weeks is too short for us all. the one–month span is insufficient for the
majority of students to get to know a new working environment, or to examine
personal traits and qualities. In my experience, it usually takes at least the first two
weeks just to settle into the flow of the job. A longer internship period of time is
necessary, as in reality, most internships last the minimum of two months.
Our university should also create more opportunities for students to interact with
business so that students can gain practical experience before stepping out of the
school. Encouraging students to come to start–ups is another good idea since start–ups
in Vietnam are in the blooming period, they are growing so fast, indeed need so much
human resources. Further more, youngsters like us can have more change to involve
and be responsible for real jobs and duties in start–ups than huge and well–known
firms with thousands of employees.
Working environemnt stimulation should be highly recommended to be hosted
by our university for our students to know more about the real job and have a clearer
direction for their futures. Having career talks and real–time sharings are also
considered good ways to deliver knowledge and precious people to students’ circles,
providing them with required knowledge for the future.
CONCLUSION
After the past few weeks, the internship serves perfectly as a tool to verify the
knowledge I had learned at Foreign Trade University. Indeed, it connected the
theoretical framework with the actual reality so that I can distinguish two of them and
learned from the differences. Despite a short apprentice time itself, I would like to
show my immense gratitude towards the dedicated guidance of the “sisters and
brothers” in the company.

Moreover, thanks to JAMJA, I can learn things that I haven’t done before.
Especially, I can realize my weakness and find the way to improve it.

Not only is the knowledge that has been learned at school but through this
internship, I also learn and discover new industry. The Age of 4.0 is open to unlimited
opportunities and challenges especially to us, the youngsters. To grasp our
opportunities and overcome challenges, every student needs to equip ourselves with
careful knowledge, skills and attitudes. It can be said that the intern–course practice has
been a stepping stone for us to take initiative, confidently step into the labor market,
update the latest knowledge and trends so as not to be confused and stumble.
