4L Avenger Supercharger Install Instructions

1. Read through all instructions first before beginning installation, if you


have any questions please contact Avenger Superchargers.

2. Begin the installation by disconnecting the battery.

3. Remove the stock air filter, housing, & brackets.

4. Properly support the motor from underneath, and remove the


passenger’s side motor mount, it will be reinstalled later.
5. Remove stock oil sending unit.

6. Install supplied brass fittings to position shown in FIG.* 1

7. Reinstall stock oil sending unit in to new fitting.

8. Install supplied oil line on to new fitting.

9. Reinstall motor mount.

10. Mark and remove spark plugs and coil pak.

11. Models equipped with Air Conditioning, remove lower AC mounting


bolt, and install supplied (8mm x 130mm) bolt and bracket. At this
point, the AC unit now uses the 1st boss hole next to the motor mount.

12. Install Intercooler Pump on passenger inner fender panel just above
frame rail. Wire the Red wire to Key on Hot, and the Black wire to
ground. FIG.*2

13. Install Supercharger mounting base to side of cylinder head with 2
(8mm x 30mm) supplied bolts, using thread locker blue. Route the oil
line through the base mount as in FIG.*3 & 4

14. AC lines that run to firewall and so equipped models will need to be
bent down at the firewall to clear the mounting base. DO THIS VERY
CAREFULLY AND SLOWLY. FIG.*5

15. Install Brace Rod from bracket on AC compressor to bottom of


Supercharger mounting plate. Place a small amount of pressure on
base plate and adjust Rod to snug plate down and tighten lock nuts.

16. Remove Throttle Body, 2 Electrical Connections, Linkage Mount, &


Throttle Cable.

17. Remove throttle cable from accelerator pedal, and remove from
vehicle. Install new throttle cable provided and attach to accelerator
pedal, leaving loose at engine end.

18. Install Riser plates under Coil Pak, and reinstall the coil pak using the
back 2 holes of the original mounting position.

19. Install wedge on to intake manifold with the supplied bolts, intake
wedge will be angled down. Install intake hose onto wedge and slide
on both hose clamps tightening one on the wedge. FIG.*7

20. Install Supercharger riser plates on mounting base. FIG.*8

21. Place the Supercharger assembly on the riser plates, on top of the
mounting base and install the front 2 (8mm x 45mm) bolts, & hand
tighten for now. Place intake hose on Intercooler base and tighten
remaining hose clamp. Align Supercharger assembly and install rear 2
(8mm x 45mm) bolts and tighten using Blue thread locker.

22. Remove fuel line from fuel rail (the fuel line is pressurized, please
use a rag to cover the end as you release the pressure and remove the
line). Now remove the 2 bolts that hold down the fuel rail (take #1
injector out of fuel rail to help in removing). Replace stock injectors
with injectors from kit, and install wire pigtails on injectors (lubricate
injector o-rings prior to install). Reconnect injector plug with correct#
injector to correct# connector. Install supplied spacers (8mm x 40mm)
on fuel rail hold down.

23. Drill new hole on throttle cable mount, FIG.*9 using the Template
that is included with the kit, for proper position.

24. Drain oil, and remove oil pan from engine, being very careful not to
damage the reusable pan gasket. The reason for this is very tight
clearances between the oil pan and crankshaft; this avoids any
potential damage to the crankshaft.

25. Locate hole in oil pan for oil return line, 1” toward rear of vehicle
from 2nd bolt from front of oil pan on passenger’s side. Use a pointed
air impact to punch a hole in the oil pan to a 1/2” diameter. Tap the
whole with a ¼” x 18 tap. Clean and reinstall oil pan. FIG.*10

26. Install supplied straight barbed fitting, making sure to use thread joint
compound. Install supplied hose and hose clamp to both fittings on the
oil pan and Supercharger. FIG.*11

27. REFILL CRANKCASE WITH OIL!

28. Install throttle body on air horn with supplied hardware. Silicone the
mounting surface of the throttle body, to avoid any vacuum leaks.

29. Lengthen the wires on the Throttle Position Sensor and Idle Air
Control Motor. Start by cutting the wires leaving enough length to
splice with. Attach connectors on throttle body and measure for
correct length of splices. We highly recommend the use of solder and
heat shrink, being careful to follow the color code, one wire at a time.

30. Remove the 3 factory vacuum lines from the Air Intake and Route
new vacuum lines to back of blower. Cap off ports on air intake with
the supplied boots and secure with supplied zip ties.

31. Install new throttle cable on throttle body.

32. Install new spark plug wires following markings from step 9.

33. Install new air intake system, and run valve cover breather hose from
valve cover on passenger’s side to air intake hose 90* bend. Punch
hole in air intake hose for barbed fitting and install breather hose.

34. Unbolt fan shroud from radiator and remove radiator mounting bolts.
Pull the radiator back towards engine to facilitate removing the V
brace in front of the radiator.

35. Remove the V brace and mount the intercooler radiator to the V brace
with the supplied hardware. The top of the intercooler radiator should
be located 5 to 51/2” down from top of factory radiator, and 1 to 11/2”
right of the passenger’s side of the radiator. FIG.*13

36. Run hoses from Intercooler Radiator through the opening in


passenger side of the header support (same area where AC lines run).
Lower port of the radiator goes to the pump outlet, and the upper port
goes to the Fill T on radiator support rod. The port at the back of the
Intercooler goes to the top of the cooler pump. The front of the
Intercooler goes to the Fill T.

37. Install and relocate Idler Pulleys as shown in FIG.*14 & 15 and
install new serpentine belt supplied, keep the belt number for your
records.

38. Reconnect the Battery terminals, CHECK FOR FUEL LEAKS on


injectors & fuel rail.

39. It is time to place the factory computer into learn mode for the newly
installed Supercharger. Step 1. Key Ignition ON / Step 2. Headlights
ON / Step 3. Headlights OFF / Step 4. Key OFF.

40. It’s now time to fill the intercooler system. With key on, pump should
now be cycling. Fill the intercooler from the Filler T, with a 50/50
mix of antifreeze and water. Be patient, this process takes a while to
get all the air bubbles out of the system. The level must be consistent
with no air bubbles.

41. Fill out and complete your supplied warranty and installation
documentation, double check all hardware and cable for tightness.

42. Lastly enjoy your new found power for those long hill climbs…….
