A small group of New Yorkers have gotten tax break after tax
break in recent decades, while the rest have fallen behind!
The state’s wealthiest 1% now control 35% of the state’s income. The vast majority
of New Yorkers support higher tax rates for the super-rich over cutting essential services
like education, transit and health care. Yet the Governor’s proposals – property tax caps,
service cuts, and tax breaks for the wealthy – will only deepen the state’s inequality,
worsen the jobs crisis, and send Main Street economies tanking.
Who are we? We are low-income New Yorkers from communities around the State. We
are unemployed job seekers, people living with HIV/AIDS, mothers receiving public
assistance, low-wage workers, homeless or formerly homeless, formerly incarcerated
individuals, and disabled veterans.
