Others were not in favor of this development.
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of a total lockdown during a pandemic and give
your opinion.

Since the late 2019, Covid pandemic has been spreading all over the world with high
transmission rate. Obviously, there were many deaths and infected people because of the
virus. In order to prevent and slow down the rate of infection, governments of every
countries have made precautions and effective measures. Such actions including lockdown
can slow down the spread of disease and safeguard the society up to certain extent.
However, for the action, there are people who agree and on the other hand, who do not
agree due to various reasons and hence, both pros and cons for a total lockdown curfew can
be observed if we consider thoroughly.

Initially, several advantages of a total lockdown can be found out. Firstly, the likelihood of
potential cases can be reduced significantly as long as there is less or no physical contact
with the strangers. In addition, people can work from home easily so that they can give
more time to their family which boost the emotional support. Moreover, from a perspective
of environment, as there are lockdowns, the air pollution caused by factories and vehicles
are significantly reduced. I recently saw that in some regions, clear blue skies and mountains
can be seen shortly after the lockdown action has been implemented as there are less
pollution than before. As well as the multitasking people known as generalists who have
plentiful knowledge in various fields can work multiple jobs at their homes, apart from doing
only one job. The government can focus on developing solutions for disease and planning
the arrangement for quarantine facilities during the lockdown period.

On the other hand, some cons for lockdown action are generally seen almost every day. For
blue collar workers, they need to work for their livings no matter how much the pandemic is
lethal and infectious. Thus, the transmission rate is likely to increase as they can become as
carriers. People who cannot afford or could not able to buy supplies for a whole lockdown
period are suffered from supplement shortage due to panic buyers and items being out of
stock. If the lockdown duration becomes much longer than it should be, a country’s GDP
rate can decline and rise of unemployment rate can occur. As a consequence, people would
be facing troubles in their daily basis for every single day.

From my perspective, I agree that there should be a certain period of lockdown so that the
government can prepare the countermeasures as much as possible with greater
effectiveness. However, there might be many disadvantages more than what I mentioned
above if the lockdown takes so long. As an example, I have seen that there are higher rate of
suicides and protests in some countries because of extended lockdown which has affected
them to struggle their lives concerning with economic issues.

In brief, there can be both benefits and drawbacks for any issue if we identify it deeply. I
have a belief that there would be a better circumstance if we all follow the government’s
curfew and prepare ourselves in accordingly with the further notices to overcome the
upcoming unprecedented things.
