Presentation
• 1. Write the words say, spell, print, and sign on the board. Demonstrate
each verb with your own name. Call on volunteers to do the same.
• 2. Have students open the OPD to pg. 4. Use the pictures to talk about
Carlos Soto.

• 1. Copy the sample conversation from the bottom of pg. 4 on the board, leaving
blanks for the personal information.
• 2. Elicit other personal information to use in the conversations. To protect students’
privacy, write a fake Social Security number and the school’s address and phone
number on the board. Tell them to use the information in their practice.

• 1. Direct students to read the instructions at the bottom of pg. 4. Elicit the search terms they read
and write them on the board. Ask students if they know what SSA stands for. Ask them to look for
the answer on pg. 4. Write SSA = Social Security Administration.
Evaluation
• 1. Have students close their books and number in their notebooks from one to ten.
Ask questions and give instructions. Number one: What’s your last name? Number
two: Print your first name. Direct students to write the answers or responses.
• 2. Have students complete a partner’s personal information form. Direct them to ask
their partners for the information, listen to the responses, and write the information on
the form. Monitor and note areas where students need practice.
