Abstract:

This essay will explain the reasons for emphasis on pursuing further education on students now
days and will also outline the effects of this on the society. Firstly it will elaborate on the
importance of pursuing further education, beginning with the aspect of enhancing skills and
knowledge. To add on it will discuss the availability of greater job opportunities for those who
pursue further education, gaining good qualification. Moreover, it will highlight on how an
individual gain independence from pursuing further education. In contrary to the causes, this
essay will focus on the effects of pursuing further education now days. In addition to the effects,
this essay will outline the quality of services provided, moreover; it will also harp that the
emphasis of pursuing further studies on students now days has increased the effect of people
living independently. Finally, this essay will also cast how a person is financially secure from
pursuing further studies.

Education is the process of facilitating learning. Knowledge, skills, values and beliefs are

obtained through storytelling, discussion, teaching, training, or research (Kumar, K, All Saints
Secondary School 2015, Personal Communication, 28th October). Education frequently takes
place under the guidance of educators, but learners may also educate themselves. Specifically,
higher education includes most professional education and is strongly vocationally or
professionally oriented. Pursuing further education not only helps people to learn new things but
also is a challenge to continue learning if they want to be successful in life. With great emphasis
being given to pursuing further education now days, there are diverse effects of this on the
society consecutively. Hence, this essay explains the reasons for emphasis on pursuing further
education now days and will also outline the effect of this on the society.

Firstly there are major reasons for emphasis on further education on students and they are to
enhance skills and knowledge, employment opportunities and independence. To begin with,
pursuing further education helps a person to improve job skills and ongoing training gives
students the chance to pick up abilities that they have missed to be successful in life. “Skill
enhancement provides the opportunity and knowledge for a client to develop and strengthen the
necessary skills to gain, maintain, and advance in a chosen area” (Yegenoglu, 2005).Ongoing
training and education can boost ones career growth and realize a person full potential. For
example a payroll officer needs specialized job skills to use payroll software. Thus, it has proven
that pursuing further education has really enhanced skills and knowledge.

To add on, pursuing further education prepare students to apply for different workforce they are
specialized in. There will be a lot of job opportunities ones a person has pursue further studies
and gain a qualification. Along with all the opportunities for advancement and growth comes the
potential for a bigger pay check. With the increase income one can supports the family in
providing them with their needs and wants. “All life transitions hold the potential for learning
and development” (Merriam 2005).The transition from college for working students is
challenging as they attempt to compete for high paying jobs, apply for promotions and change
careers. For example a student coming from poor background, after graduating in form 7 can
apply for a place to study in a university, and later on graduate and apply for different jobs

October).Thus pursuing further education can really prepare students well for different career
paths they want to choose.

Moreover, those who gain an education qualification after high school will get the chance to live
independently. This involves motivating and achieving things on their own. For many people,
their further education experiences shows them that they are capable of trying new things and
gives them the opportunity to pursue a wide range of possibilities after they graduate. If a person
can be self-reliant and do things on their own, figuratively and metaphorically, then they are in
charge of their own destiny and become a stronger person as a result. (Smith, 2001).Students
that pursue further studies, has a chance of getting employed once they graduate, and gain
income which can support them throughout their working life. For example, Tamaki comes from
a good family. His parents support him financially in his needs. After completing universities he
has been employed as a lawyer and from then on he has lived independently (Smith, 2001). Thus
pursuing further studies helps students to be self-reliant and responsible person and also prepare
for the future.

However, the effects of pursuing further education on students and the society are quality
services, unemployment and financial security.

In addition, quality services can be said as an effect of students pursuing further education in the
society. Major services come about gaining knowledge and applying knowledge and skills which
are not only valuable to any individual but also to the society as well. Well trained students can
result in better customer service, better work safety practices and productivity improvements.
Gaining knowledge and skills helps an individual to produced qualified service in a workforce
and in return gives quality customer services to the people in the community (Smith 2001).
Societies where students pursue further studies have a high chance of getting white collar jobs
will provide quality services to its community. For example, a student graduating from Sangam
school of Nursing in Labasa will have a chance to come back to its community to provide
services to its people. Thus quality services in a society help to build and brighten their future for
its people.

Furthermore, people have a high chance of being employed once completing their further
education and this can result in an increase in employment rate. Unemployment is common to
those who have limited skills and knowledge. Students who pursue further education are more
likely to be successful in life. When members of the community are employed at productive jobs,
the person employed has income and recognition, and the community gets better and more goods
and services. There are only the initial benefits of job and income security and more and better
public and community services. For example, those students who have completed their diploma
in education can be employed as a teacher in school transmitting knowledge to younger
generations. Thus pursuing further education has uplifted employment rate.

Finally, a person becomes financially secure after obtaining qualification when pursuing further
studies. Student becomes financially secure after graduating in such a way they are able provide
for their own needs from the income they own. It is impossible to be financially secure without
having high education. There are not only the initial benefits of job and income security, but it
also promotes high standard of living. ( Prasad, P, All Saints Secondary School 2015, personal
communication, 29th October). For example, an increasing material standard of living, reduced
poverty improves the overall well-being of the population, and the psychological implications of
poverty are significant. Thus financially security helps to promote standard of living and reduce
the rate of poverty.

In conclusion, pursuing further education has several causes and effects on the society. There are
causes such as to enhance skills and knowledge, greater employment opportunities and
independent which then has effects on students and the society in ways such as the availability of
quality services, unemployment and finance security. It is recommended that education should be
made compulsory for every child and this will helps to improve standard of living in the society.
With the pursuing of further education one cannot only be prepared locally but also globally.
