Junior Golf Programs

The Bluegrass Junior Golf Programs offer instruction to children of Members and their
Guests who are at least 4 years old but not older than 17 as of January 1, 2018.

Junior Golf operates as a program within the Club’s golf activities under the supervision of the
Golf Committee. All parents and scorers are required to become familiar with Club policies and
rules in the Bluegrass Golf Manual. Some of those rules address junior golfers and their playing
privileges.

Equally important, junior golfers also need the guidance and assistance of their parents, both
before play begins and during the season.

Bluegrass Long Term Athlete Development

(LTAD)

The Bluegrass Junior Golf Program will incorporate our instruction based on the principles of
Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD), as modeled in the Titleist Performance Institute
(TPI) and the PGA of America’s American Development Model (ADM). To develop the best
golfers in the long term, we incorporate age-appropriate activities to include conditioning and
“near-golf” experiences.
We will be setting up a special area for Junior Golfers to experience this new style of instruction.
This area will include activities that are not traditionally considered to be a part of golf instruction,
including unique stations, from “ladder runs”, hurdles, ball tosses, to Snag Golf. All of these
activities are scaled to your child’s chronological and developmental age, with the goal to help
them develop their potential as a golfer and keep him engaged with golf over the long term.
We look forward to helping your junior achieve her full potential.

4
Parent Commitment
Assistance from parents supervision is crucial to the success of the program.

To ensure the success of the program, we need parents to do the following:

1) Have a working knowledge of the game of golf, the rules, and the etiquette.
2) Remain with children under 10 during playing opportunities to ensure their
safety.
3) Remain with children under 8 during classes (excluding camps) to assist at every
session.
4) Parents will have their children report to the appropriate Coordinator on time
and at the appropriate location.
5) When assisting, parents will emphasize safety, advise golfers of proper
etiquette and sportsmanship, and keep an accurate record of each
player’s score. Please refrain from coaching unless directed to by a member
of our Professional Staff.
6) As with the children, proper dress as outlined in the Golf Manual is required when
parents are on the golf course or around the practice facilities.
7) Parents of PGA Junior League Players are expected to read and understand the
Parent Code of Conduct .

Dress Code
We ask that you ensure that your junior follows the dress code, as it applies to all golfers of all
ages.

Permissible attire on the golf course and all practice areas includes golf slacks, or Bermuda
style shorts and a collared shirt or mock turtleneck for adult and youth males, and comparable
attire for adult and youth females. The following clothing does NOT fall within acceptable
attire: jeans of any kind, tank tops, fishnet shirts, strapless tops, flip flops, shorts that do not
reach past two inches above the knee, over baggy safari style shorts, and sweat suits. A neat
appearance and proper footwear should be maintained at all times including shirts and tops
being properly secured in slacks, etc.

We would like our junior golfers to display to the membership that they respect the
tradition of golf, the club and its assets. If you have specific questions, about dress code,
please check before arrival to avoid embarrassment to yourself or your juniors, as the Golf
staff has been asked to withhold playing privileges for juniors who are not properly attired.

PGA Junior League (PGA JL) is designed to socialize the game for boys and girls, ages 13 and
under. A player cannot have turned 14 years of age prior to August 1. PGA JL features team vs.
team competitions in structured leagues that provide a popular, less stressful scramble format as
opposed to stroke-play competition. This is a great way to get kids involved in the game!

PGA JL Players Receive:

• Team Jerseys
• PGA JL Bag Tags
• 5-6 regular-season league competitions
• Coaching from a PGA Professional
• Team practices
• Awards – including Flag Tags
• Opportunity for All-Stars to go to National Championship

Time Commitment-Season Length

The PGA JLG regular season is approximately five weeks long in the late spring/early summer
depending on your league’s location. Regular season play concludes no later than mid-July. Practices
will start in mid-April with matches in June and July.

One 9-hole competition is held per week, most typically in the late afternoon on a Saturday or
Sunday. Each competition is approximately three hours long. Many coaches will hold an evening
practice during the week.

Locations
Each team will host 2-3 competitions at their home course and play 2-3 away competitions at other
courses in the league.

Skill Level
PGA JLG is an inclusive program that encourages all skill levels. We suggest that players achieve a
minimum basic level of competence in at least one discipline; driving, chipping or putting, before
joining a team. Our scramble format provides a comfort zone for the developing player. For the
accomplished Junior who may already be competing in individual tournaments, PGA JLG offers the
opportunity to develop leadership skills in a team setting and most importantly, play on a team with
friends.
