1 APPLICATIONS

1.1 General

The insertable filter is applied as an automatic cleaning cloth filter for continuous removal of dust in
industrial processes which handle powdered or granulated materials.

Examples of applications are: chemicals, cement, pharmaceuticals, sand, sugar, foodstuffs and raw
materials for animal feeds. Depending on the situation, the basic type can be fitted with a fan.

Depending on the properties of the dust and the process circumstances, different kinds of filter
material can be applied. A long life coated polyester product with high filtration quality is applied
standard. To choose the right quality, all information concerning the kind of dust and process
circumstances should be known.

1.2 Operating conditions

• Connection to a compressed air supply providing a minimum pressure of 4 bar and a maximum
pressure of 6 bar
• Connection of the standard filter controller unit to 220 V~, 50 Hz
• Depending on the type of motor used, connection to 230 or 400 V~, 50 Hz
• Maximum surrounding temperature + 60° Celsius
• Minimum surrounding temperature - 20° Celsius
• Outdoor application is possible
• The filter unit can be used both horizontally as vertically, as long as good cleaning of the filter
elements is guaranteed
4

2 FUNCTION

The dust is separated on the outer side of the filter pads. The cleaned air passes through the pores of
the filter cloth to the clean air chamber. Finally the clean air leaves the filter trough the clean air exit.

Cleaning of the filter pads is effectuated by means of compressed air. The filterpads are blown through
from the cleaned-air section.
Compressed air enters via the central pressure barrel, one of the magnetic valves connected to it, and
finally a blow-pipe to the clean-air outlet of the filterpads.
An electronically controlled unit opens in turn in a continuous cycle every valve, at predetermined
intervals of 1 to 60 seconds. A short burst of compressed air enters the filter material at the clean air
side. This causes the dust to fall down. In this way the filterpads are cleaned one after the other. The
duration of the short burst of compressed air is adjustable from 40 to 1000 milliseconds.

In order to achieve the most economic cleaning, there is the possibility of building in an automatically
functioning interval control unit. This control unit is activated by a pressure switch, depending on the
pressure difference over the filter.
5

3 HANDLING OF THE INSERTABLE FILTER

3.1 Safety

The insertable filter will be supplied with hoisting hooks. With the use of these hooks the filter can be
safely handled.
Only use safe lifting devices, convince yourself that they can safely lift the weight of the insertable filter.
Make sure that all lifting devices are properly fastened.

The above does not apply to filter types with permanent hoisting hooks on the filter and the smaller
filter types, which can easily be handled with standard hoisting gear.

The weights and dimensions, listed in 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4 must be used in order to safely lift the insertable
filter. Please note the position of the point of gravity considering the weight of the fan motor.

Never use the hoisting hook of the electromotor to lift the insertable filter!

4 INSTALLATION

4.1 General

The insertable filter is only in accordance with the Directive for Machines (89/392/EEG, as lastly
changed), when at the point of putting it in operation the requirements stated in 4.2 and 4.3 are met. In
case the mechanical and/or electrical installation has been performed by a third party, the
manufacturer takes no responsibility for damage and/or injury resulting from deficiencies in installation.

4.2 Mechanical installation

The insertable filters are delivered as completely assembled units and can be mounted on existing
systems by means of an aspiration system of air ducts or directly through a flange connection. A contra
flange can be delivered as an extra.

When installing the filter, make sure sufficient surrounding space is left to safely perform maintenance
etc.

The fan outlet side must be supplied with a damper or discharge pipe (screening grate). This will
prevent excessive noise levels and act as a safe screening grate of the ventilating fan. A discharge
tube must have a minimum length of 2 meters and must never introduce further dangerous situations.

It is not allowed to let the fan outlet side freely accessible for people!

The housing of the filter is made of high quality drawn plate steel.

The air pressure vessel must be connected to the compressed air supply (air pressure 4 to 6 bar).
14

If the compressed air is not oil- and water free, a separator for oil and water should be applied.

Use the data in the following table in order to maintain a noise level on the location of the filter unit,
which is according to local legislation (as a fan is applied).

Type Air volume Motor Noise level Noise level

R33 8000 5,5 93 77
R35 11500 7,5 96 78

4.3 Electrical installation

Considering that the safety of the insertable filter is largely determined by the electrical installation,
correct installation is of the utmost importance.

To prevent the filter from unexpectedly switching on during maintenance etc., every motor must be
supplied with a manual operation switch that can be locked in the “off” position. The location of this
switch has to be in such a way that during maintenance on the filter the operating switch has to be
clearly visible. In addition to this, during engagement of the operating switch the filter plus fan motor
have to be visible. It must not be possible to engage the motor again using another switch than the
operation switch.

In addition the operating switch must switch all phases/poles and the zero. It must be of good quality
and capable of handling the required power. (both peak and continuous power).

The filter controller must be connected to the correct voltage using the designated connectors.
15

5 PRODUCTION START-UP

5.1 Safety

Before putting the insertabl filter into operation, different parts have to be checked for their correct
functioning. Especially during these inspections hazardous situations are more likely to arise, so please
beware of the higher risk of accidents. Keep at safe distance and wear earprotection, also when the
cleaningpulses are controlled.

5.2 Inspections

After installing and connecting the electrical power, please inspect following:

• Check air pressure in the buffer vessel. This pressure should be between 4 and 6 bar.
• Check if the filter controller is switched on before starting the fan.
• Check rotating direction of the fan.
• Check if all filterpads are cleaned in one cycle by opening the door.
• Check if air pressure rises to the level of compressed air supply between two bursts.

After these inspections the insertable filter can be taken into operation.

5.3 Adjustment data

The full automatic interval control can be adjusted on two points (see annex: filter controller):

• The interval can be adjusted from 1 to 60 seconds using P1. Depending on dust rating the time
interval can be decreased or increased. In case of high dust rating decrease the time interval, this
at the expense of a higher use of compressed air. In case of low dust rating increase the time
interval, using less compressed air while achieving the same constant cleaning result.
• The duration of the short burst of compressed air can be adjusted using P2, from 40 to 1000
milliseconds. In case of high difficulty detaching dust, the duration of the burst can be increased,
which also includes a higher use of compressed air.
16

The standard cycle for filter types is as following:

6 MAINTENANCE

6.1 Safety

During maintenance on the insertable filter or parts, it is obliged to follow the next points:

• The fan motor has to be disconnected from the power supply using the operation switch. During
maintenance this switch has to be locked.
• Compressed air supply has to be disconnected from the filter by closing the air pressure valve.
• The controller has to be switched off using the power switch located on the controller unit.

Before starting maintenance activities convince yourself that the air pressure in the vessel is zero bar.
This can be realized by performing several cleaning cycles with the inlet air pressure valve closed.

Never remove the screening located on the inlet side of the fan, unless this is absolutely necessary for
maintenance purposes. Relocate the screening after ending maintenance activities.

Never engage the fan when contact with the ventilating fan is possible (for example caused by
absence of the inspection door, fan screening, exhaust damper or pipe).
18

6.2 Inspections

The filter should be checked regularly on following items:

Dust leakage

Caused by damaged filterpads, and will be indicated by dust blowing out of the clean air exit. In this
case, replace the pads in question (see 6.3).

Dirty filterpads

Indicated by a considerable pressure difference over the filter cloths. If no air pressure measurement
can be made, a low exhaust capacity will be an indication. In case of dirty filterpads, replace all pads
(see 6.3).

The compressed air pressure

The air pressure in the buffer vessel should be between 4 and 6 bar.

The airjet inlet valves

Check on proper operation and replace, if necessary, the membrane (1) and/or the solenoid (2).

6.3 Assembly and disassembly of the filter cloths

The filterpads can be removed from the clean air side.

• Take off filter injection pipes (1) and clamps (2) by unscrewing the nuts (3).
• Remove filterpads (4) from the frame.
• Remove old filter cloths (5) and replace them with new ones.
• Apply the filterpads into the frame and be sure that the filterpad and frame fit airtight.
• Reassemble the clamps and the injection pipes.

7 THE PD CONTROLLER (OPTION)

The PD controller is applied to obtain a maximum cleaning effect in different dust rating conditions at
the lowest possible use of compressed air.

Using the PD controller the standard time of the cycles will be adjusted by the PD controller. The PD
controller measures the pressure over the filter. At a predetermined value it will give a signal to the
filter controller to clean the filter. After that the filter controller will complete a full cycle.

The value of the pressure difference can be adjusted by means of a pressure switch. This adjustment
can be made after removing the cover of the PD controller.

The PD controller is obtainable in two models, the Delta-Basic and the Delta-Tronic. The Delta-Tronic
is the most advanced type.

When connecting the PD controller to the filter controller always switch off the electrical power.
