ommentary on 1 Peter

Background
Peter wrote this letter. He was one of the 12 *apostles. His name was Simon, but Y'shua
changed it to Kefa (John 1:42). ‘Kefa’ means ‘a rock’ or ‘a stone’. A man called Silas
(sometimes the Bible calls him Silvanus) helped Peter to write the letter (see 5:12). In
those days, some men were expert writers. They helped people to write their letters in
the proper way. Peter wrote this letter about 30 years after Y'shua's resurrection.
In the first verse, Peter lists 5 countries. Most of these are in the country that we now call
Turkey. On the day of *Pentecost (Acts 2) people from three of these countries were
visiting the city of Jerusalem. Some of these people may have become Believers in
Y'shua there. Perhaps they went home and started new churches. Peter wrote to Jews
and Gentiles who became followers of Messiah. Peter gave the letter to someone who
travelled to the main churches in these areas. This person read the letter aloud to the
Believers. Then people copied it and sent it to all the smaller churches near to them.
Peter wants to encourage Believers who are suffering for Messiah. Although Believers
might suffer in this life, they will not suffer forever. This world is not their real home. One
day they will live with YHVH and share His glory.
Peter also wants his readers to understand the grace of YHVH. He wants every Believer
to know what YHVH has done for them. He wants them to learn more about YHVH.
This letter is very practical. When a person becomes a Believer in Messiah his life
changes. (‘his’ here refers to both men and women, not just to men.) Peter tells his
readers how to live a good life as a follower of Messiah. Peter was a disciple of Y'shua
for about three years. He saw all that Y'shua did, heard all that He said, and is writing
this letter to encourage Believers to live like Y'shua.

1Pe_1:2 - Sanctified by His Spirit and the Blood - Through the sanctification of the
Spirit - cleansing, to make set apart - to make holy - Just like YHVH sanctified the
Sabbath so He sanctifies us through His Spirit. YHVH "cleansed" the Sabbath from all
defilement and distractions like work or everyday activities, making it set apart for Him
and His glory alone. In the same way YHVH sanctifies us from worldliness, setting us
apart and make us holy for His purpose alone. Sanctification by the Spirit comes
through obedience - that implies action, something you have to do. What do we need
to obey? We should listen to the Spirit of YHVH, reminding us of everything we have
learned Joh_14:26, as well as remind you of the Commandments written on your heart
Jer_31:33-34. Obeying the Spirit of YHVH is to obey His Commandments His Spirit
remind you of in every situation. This is our love towards Him Exo_20:6 Joh_14:15,
Joh_14:21. As we obey His Law in our hearts, so our actions and our lives are
sanctified and cleansed from unrighteousness and we become Holy as He is.
The second part of Sanctification is through the Blood of Messiah - The blood is for the
remission of our sins Mat_26:28, Heb_13:12, Col_1:14, and the forgiveness of our sins.
One part of Sanctification is to be washed by the Blood of the Lamb and the forgiveness
of sin. The other part is to live a set apart life, being sanctified (keep clean) by the Sprit
and obedience to His Commandments.
Through this sanctification of the Sprit and the Blood we receive His Grace and Peace
(Shalom). His Grace is to be sanctified, to be forgiven, to receive His Spirit and to obey
His Commandments (Truth). If you apply this and allow this then you will have a life of
inner peace and Shalom. Shalom means "the completion of the building process".
Y'shua is building a "House" for Himself in ach one of us and together we are His Body
and His Temple which He and His Father indwell Joh_14:23-27.
1Pe_1:3-5 - Are we going to Heaven when we die? - Peter gives praises unto YHVH,
the Father of Y'shua the Messiah. Blessed is the word "baruch" that means 'to kneel
down' and is an expression of exaltation towards YHVH and a sign of humility form the
worshipper. YHVH has made us 'born again' and is the 'offspring' and 'children' of
YHVH. How are we 'Born Again"? By the hope in the One who was resurrected By
YHVH's Spirit. We are 'born again' in the same way YHVH raised Y'shua from the dead -
through the Power of His Spirit Rom_1:4. From this we receive the inheritance of
becoming a undefiled, uncountable or immortal being that will not fade away, guarded in
eternity for you. The translation says "reserved in heaven for you" implying that you will
go to heaven when you die and will live in heaven for eternity with YHVH. This sis
contradicting Revelation that states that the New Jerusalem comes down to earth and
YHVH will live with us on earth forever. "Reserved" can also be more accurately
translated as "guarded" and "heaven" as "eternity". That means that YHVH, Who is
eternal (not bound to time) is guarding our inheritance - which is eternal life in a immortal
undefiled (by sin) state. It does not specify where we will live forever and misinterpreted
as Heaven due to the translation. "Who are kept" better translated as "Guarded" by the
power of Elohim (His Spirit) through faith that leads unto Salvation that will be revealed
(happen) in the last time (days). You are saved only when Y'shua come to judge and He
will come in the Last Days. Your "salvation" or "hope of salvation" is guarded through
YHVH's Spirit (power of Elohim) and your faith (faithfulness in the Truth).

1Pe_1:9 - The END of your faith? Does this imply that your faith will end? Of course
not! It should actually be translated as the GOAL of your faith that is salvation of your
souls. We get the same mistranslation in Rom_10:4 that produced a false doctrine that
Messiah is the END of the Torah/Law. Messiah is the GOAL of the Torah - that means
that He is revealed in the Torah and that the Torah will lead you to Messiah.

1Pe_1:15-16 - Be Holy for YHVH is Holy. Lev_19:2 Lev_11:44 Rom_11:16 Eph_5:27

1Pe_1:16 Verse 2 Peter spoke of sanctification by the Spirit unto obedience that
describes the process of Holiness. You need the Spirit of YHVH, His Torah in your
hearts and obeying from the "inside out" and not from the "outside in" where you do the
Commandments mechanically without it being part of your nature, you do it because you
want to, because you love YHVH and because He has changed your nature through His
Sprit in you. 2Pe_1:4. Peter is quoting from Leviticus 11 & 19 where YHVH instructed
Israel to be Holy and we get more detail of what Holiness is all about in a practical
sense. Lev_11:44 YHVH said that we must sanctify our selves; He is not going to do it
for us but it is an action required from us. Is this contradicting 1Pe_1:2 where Peter
implies that the Spirit will sanctify us? In Lev 11 YHVH instructed Israel about food, what
to eat and what not to eat and in this context, we sanctify ourselves OBEYING these
instructions and that makes us Holy like YHVH.
Peter speaks about sanctification of the Spirit unto obedience and Lev speaks of
sanctification of the Law (Torah) through obedience. This is exactly the same concept
because the Spirit writes The Torah on our hearts and we obey the Torah (Spirit) from
within and in Lev YHVH gave the Torah through the prophet Moses and they obey the
Torah from the "outside". The result of the obedience to the Commandments (Torah in
your heart or Torah through Moses) brings sanctification that results in Holiness. If you
do not obey, you will defile yourself and not be holy any more. Defile is the Hebrew word
"tame" that means unclean, to be foul and to pollute one self morally or ceremonially. To
understand this we can relate to everyday situations like pollution for example. You can
pollute the air, water and the earth. Pollution will have a degrading effect on the
substance that is being defiled, for example water; you will not be able to drink it, air; you
will be able to breath it, and the earth, you will not be able to grow food and eat of it. All
three examples relates to sustaining life and if we pollute the things we need to live, then
we endanger our selves by these pollutions and in the end cause our own destruction.
Holiness is the word "kadosh" and means to be "set apart" for a specific purpose. That
means that YHVH created something for one purpose only and if it is use for another,
then it is no longer holy but "tame" or defiled. YHVH created water to sustain life, if we
pollute it then it is no longer holy (fulfilling it's purpose) but "tame" or unclean. In the
same sense YHVH has put Instructions or boundaries in place that sustain man's
"spiritual life". These laws keep man holy (fit for the purpose YHVH created man for) and
man says clean and Holy. If someone decide to break or disobey these Instructions, he
will "pollute" himself spiritually (sometimes physically) and will endanger his "spiritual"
life. Holiness is bout preserving life (physical and spiritual) and to keep everything YHVH
created "set apart" for its soul purpose and not to pollute or defile it, making it no longer
use for purpose or unholy. Things like homosexuality; man is not made to lie with
another man and a woman with another woman; it is "unclean" and "profaning" the
purpose of man and woman to have children and multiply. That is unholy and those who
do these things are unholy or unclean (tame). YHVH has given instructions regarding
this and if you break these instructions then you sin and the penalty for sin is death.
Death is not only the judgement that comes upon those who disobey YHVH, but it is the
consequence of these people's actions that allows "DAETH" to come into their lives and
steal their "LIFE" YHVH gave them. Death is the enemy and sin and disobedience is the
open door for death to come in and destroy those who allow death in.
In other words, Holiness and "Uncleanness" or "defilement" are directly related as
opposites and is kept holy or defiled either by obeying or disobedience to YHVH's "Laws
or preservation" found in His Torah. If you break one of His Instructions, you will firstly
defile yourself spirituality and it will have a physical negative effect as well that will result
in uncleanness, pollution or defilement in your actions or family or environment. Think of
the Laws man took away regarding governing the Land; they have caused defilement of
the nations as well as defilement of the physical land. Everything turns to chaos and
destruction and the people live lives that endanger others and their lives. Holiness is
about preservation of life and to "guard" those who are alive against those elements that
war against life, ie death. Death is the enemy that came into this world through sin (sin is
breaking YHVH's Commandments) and sin came in trough disobedience and there we
see the connection again between Life, YHVH's Instructions and Obedience. We fight
against death by knowing and obeying YHVH's Commandments and He gave us His
Spirit (of Life) to help us know and understand His Commandments so that we can
overcome death and sin. Do not allow sin in your life so that "DEATH" (the enemy)
wouldn’t enter and destroy the "LIFE" YHVH gave you. Listen to the "Spirit of Life" and
obey and guard YHVH's Commandments that are now in your heart so that they may
guard you from sin and "DEATH".
