SMCS - 4265-081-PX

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine

movement.

Sudden movement of the machine or release of air pressure

or oil pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the
machine.

To help prevent possible injury before testing and adjusting

any air system or hydraulic system, perform the procedure in
the Testing and Adjusting, "General Information" section.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained

during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing,
adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect
the fluid with suitable containers before opening any
compartment or disassembling any component containing
fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service

Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and
contain fluids on Cat products.

(1) Pressure port (rear brakes)

(2) Pressure port (front brakes)

Service Brake Pedal

1. Install a 0 to 16000 kPa (0 to 2300 psi) pressure gauge at pressure port (1) .

2. Start the engine and permit the oil pressure of the brake charging pump to rise to the cutout
pressure for the accumulators.

3. With the engine at high idle, fully push the service brake pedal and check the reading on the
pressure gauge. When the service brake pedal is depressed, the correct brake pressure is 10350
± 350 kPa (1500 ± 50 psi).

4. Remove the pressure gauge from pressure port (1) and install the pressure gauge at pressure
port (2). Repeat Step 2 through Step 3.

Note: The oil pressure at pressure port (1) and at pressure port (2) should be similar. If the
pressures at both locations are not similar, there may be a malfunctioning check valve, a loose
fitting, or a damaged hydraulic line.

5. Stop the engine.

6. Remove the pressure gauge.

Left Pedal
Use the left pedal and perform Steps 1 through 5.

When the left pedal is depressed, the correct brake pressure is 10350 ± 350 kPa (1500 ± 50 psi).
