In 2005, Ateliers Varan (Paris) held a three-month documentary film workshop in Belgrade,
which initiated the creation of a new generation of documentarists in Serbia. The very next
year, these young people founded Atelier Varan Belgrade after a similar model.

As one of the most talented participants in the workshop, Dragan Nikolic joined the team of
lecturers as an Assistant Lecturer, whose main task was to help us in the development of the
ideas of the workshop participants into documentary film stories.

Dragan Nikolic proved to be the ideal collaborator in this field, because of his advanced
training in the fields of dramaturgy and philosophy, and because of the keen interest he
showed equally for others’ as well as his own documentary films.

Today an accomplished director, scriptwriter and cinematographer, Dragan Nikolic is

certainly one of the most successful talents of Ateliers Varan, who was a guest with his film
The Undertaker at the screening in Ateliers Varan Paris and discussions with the audience in
2015.

It’s a great honour to have trainedDragan Nikolic, and to have his efficient assistance. Now I
admire him as a filmmaker and discover his films with great pleasure.
