Subject -: Proposal for alternate alignment from Chainage 396/170 to

Chainage 399/320 in C-5 package in the vicinity of Vadodara
Station.

As per the HSR alignment chosen during initial feasibility, the proposed alignment is
crossing the existing IR tracks from East to West between existing platforms 6 (In west) & 7
(in East) of the Vadodara station. During initial planning, it was planned that a long span
bridge of length 220 m bridge girder with balancing spans of 120 m and 100 m on either
side. Major challenges in this scheme are as under -:

1. Launching of Long span steel girder of length 220 m -:

a. Approval of airspace from AAI -: As per the launching scheme submitted by CMGC
provider, the boom height of the launching crane will go upto 131 m (AMSL). The
subject location is coming in the red CCZM zone, which requires clearance of air
space from Airport authority of India. The request for clearance was submitted to
AAI. In reply, the permission was granted up to 95 m (AMSL) only. Also, the design
of the girder, in which the girder is planned to be rotated on hinge, would be a major
challenge.
b. Safety of running trains traffic -: Moreover, the while work is to be executed along
with the running traffic of more than 200 trains per day at Vadodara Station. The
launching scheme is still not finalized after six months of detailed deliberations due
to heavy repercussions on the existing Railways and nearby roads & structures.

2. Major Repercussions on Platform No. 6 of IR -: The new HSR station is planned

above the existing platform No. 6 of IR. The foundations are coming very close to the
running railway lines, which would make the construction work a big challenge. The
whole platform and the circulating will be covered by the grid of columns of 12 m x 12
m. The work needs to be carried out in phases. Also, since the construction work would
continue for many years, the passenger safety will require a major attention.

3. Major relocation of buildings and utilities involved -: Shifting of almost 125

commercial units, 45 residential units, major Railways utilities, VMC Main Sewerage
lines & Pumping Station, GAIL Pipelines, Other OFC Lines etc involved.

The above challenges will not only involve lot of financial repercussions but have major
impact on the time lines.

It was observed that for crossing from East to West, instead of crossing major section of
Railway yard, the crossing should be made at a point, where the width of the Railway portion
is minimum. This was found possible by traversing the Vadodara station area on the east
side only and cross, where only two tracks exist. Accordingly, detailed planning of alternate
alignment has been made and attached as annexure.
