Article Critique

Throughout the science community, one may see that there are thousands of studies and

experiments running around the world. Scientists have the opportunity to study whatever they

desire. In this study, one may view a study on Totipotent stem-cells. The article, “Proliferation

of Totipotent Hematopoietic stem-cells in vitro reconstituting ability,” one can look deeper into

the Totipotent stem-cell research. This article was retrieved from Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA

Reading through the article, one can see many different sides and ideas that may come

with a deeper look. One can tell that the study type was a longitudinal study. This means the

study was a long term study, one which lasted longer than two years. This study contained many

methods, also. The methods included; they received the virus through scraping it out of the dish

that was then washed in fetal calf, they then had aliquots over laid on the established B6C3F

marrow, removed half of the nonadherent cells and restored it with fresh LTC medium. They

also did things like they injected irradiated to recipients, used Hematopoietic tissue analysis, they

obtained elution of nonadherent cells, they used the southern blot analysis, and so on. With the

opportunity of this experiment, there were many results that came with the conclusion of the

experiment. Some of the results included were dominate cones allowing comparison of the

retrovirus, the recovery of long term repopulating cells, quantitation of CRU in LTC, evidence of

Totipotent stem-cell amplification and serial studies of repopulation stem-cell clones during
LTC. The conclusion of the lab was the operation of human LTC has similar mechanics to that

of stem-cell proliferation and decline. This allows manipulation to change conditions that allow

transplanted human stem cells properly work when completed.

Throughout the completion of this lab, one could see the different sides of the article.

One thing someone may have been able to see was the strengths of the article. Some of the

strengths included were they used a recombinant Tkneo19 virus, they displayed their results very

clearly, and they repeated the experiment many times. Another thing one may be able to see was

they used 3 different kinds of animal products which, could potentially skew the results in they

lab which could show an incompletion in the study. The article was very relevant and it allowed

one to see how this study can help with gene therapy proto call in the future. This could allow

the world to try and fix viruses and other things that could cause detrimental damage in the

environment.
