BASIC DRAWING
This course will develop students’ skills in basic observational drawing. Well-
established drawing techniques will be discussed. The role of drawing as a
means for self-expression will also be explored.
HISTORY OF FASHION
This course provides an overview of costume history from ancient civilizations
to the present. Students examine cultural, social, and historical events and
analyze their effect on the history of costume and apparel, including the
influence of historical costume on fashion today.
TEXTILE SCIENCE
Students in this course study the chemistry of fabric and its parts. Topics
include the properties of fabrics and their use in home and industry. During
this course, the students examine the characteristics of fibers, yarns, and
fabric structures as well as survey the dyeing, printing, and finishing processes.
GARMENT CONSTRUCTION
This course aims to familiarize the student with the formation, function and
various types of stitch, cutting and techniques for developing garments.
Creative exercises will teach the student how to sew as well as prepare the
student for advanced courses in garment construction.
PATTERNS
This technical course introduces the theory and application of flat pattern
drafting. It will include the three principles of pattern making: dart
manipulation, added fullness, and contouring.
DRAPING
This course introduces the student to another method of pattern making by
draping: twisting, pleating, folding, gathering and/or layering fabric on a
dress form.
