2 IN GENERAL
This standard describes four levels of precision for dimensional tolerances. A level of precision
should be chosen according to the level normally obtained during the production process in the
workshop.
If reduced tolerances are required, or wider ranges of tolerances are admissible and cheaper,
they must be shown on drawing each time.
3 FIELD OF VALIDITY
The tolerances given in this standard are valid if drawings or other documents (e.g. Specifica
tions) show reference to the standard, as shown in point 5.
Tolerances described in other IVECO standards for some production processes (see IVECO
STD. 10-2310) can be applied only if clearly shown on drawings or other documents.
If technical documents contain several instructions for dimensional tolerances, in case of doubt,
the instruction with the widest tolerance should be followed.
For a surface dimension without tolerance information, but processed applying dimensional tole
rances according to this standard, and a surface processed applying dimensional tolerances ac
cording to other specifications, the tolerance suitable in each case is that for the process im
plying the larger tolerance.
a) Linear dimensions, e.g. outside and inside dimensions, diameters (see Tables I and III),
blend radii and chamfer heights (see Table II).
b) Angular dimensions (see Table IV) whether or not shown on drawing (e.g. 90° angles and
angles of regular polygons).
3.2 The tolerances described in this standard are not valid for:
a) Linear and angular dimensions with tolerances shown separately for each of them.
b) Linear and angular dimensions for which technical documents contain other general toleran
ce instructions (see IVECO STDS. 10-2999 and 10-2310).
4 TOLERANCES
Concerning the interdependence of dimensional (linear and angular) and geometrical tolerances,
see IVECO STD. 10-2310.

5 INFORMATION ON DRAWING
5.1 With only a reference to this standard, it is implied that the following levels of precision for linear
and angular dimensions are specified within its field of validity:
- Interaxial (distance between two axes, or between an axis and a reference element, e.g. an
edge): Level A (Table I).
- Linear and angular dimensions concerned with welding, for components consisting of welded
parts: Level C (Tables I and IV).
5.2 If only one precision level needs to be specified for various dimensions of a component, it must
be included with a note on the drawing, e.g.:
5.3 If different precision levels need to be specified for various dimensions of a component, but not
as shown in section 5.1, these levels must be included with a note on the drawing, e.g.:
Properties for which the tolerances described in this standard are valid, are to be classified at
the “Secondary” level of importance.
