1. Installation

Install WindCom onto a PC or laptop, using the setup option. WindCom


software is available from the downloads page on our website (www.gill.
co.uk). Alternatively, a terminal emulator program, such as windows terminal
or hyperterminal may be used.

2. Mounting

Refer to the main manual (section 6) for the mounting instructions for the
anemometer. For the puposes of this guide it shall be assumed that the
anemometer shall be mounted vertically, with the north marker on the
anemometer housing tube pointing to north.

3. Connecting

The anemometer can be connected to a PC using one of three methods :


1. Connect the anemometer to the PC communications port
via a standard RS422/RS232 adaptor.
2. Connect the anemometer directly to a PC equipped with a RS422
interface card.
3. Connect the anemometer via a Gill Instruments PCI.
Details of the wiring connections for the anemometer are provided in the
manual (section 6.4). If methods one or two are used, a suitable power
supply should be used to power the unit, details of the anemometers power
requirements are provided in the manual (section 6.6).

4. Powering Up

Power up the unit and run WindCom from the start menu. The program
will automatically search for the anemometer. Once it has been found run
terminal from the menu. Data will be observed scrolling down the screen.
For details on how to interpret this information, refer to the manual (section
8).
