Music is a significant part of many of our daily lives and so is true for me.

Music makes it easier

to do daunting tasks as it helps me get lost in the work. The type of music I listen to depends on

the task I am performing alongside. Hence, I have a diverse genre of music in my library. Most

of which is influenced by my geographical position.

While I find myself following specific music genres for specific routine activities, choosing the

songs to listen to at a particular time is somewhat random. When selecting music to listen to, I

usually select a genre rather than an artist. The genre I select is usually decided by the task I am

performing at the current time. For example, when doing a boring task like lifting weights, I

want to keep myself entertained with EDM (Electronic Dance Music). It is the best music for me

to motivate myself at such dull times. In other instances, like doing math problems – a

relatively non-interesting task compared to hiking – I tend to listen to classical Hindi music. This

type of music is soothing and has a relaxed tone that allows me to stay focused on the task at

hand and helps me put in continued effort for a long period of time without exhaustion. I often

find my finished work better when I work this way than without the company of music.

I remember the days in my childhood when my family, friends, and I would watch a lot of

Bollywood movies. A special thing about Bollywood movies is that they include tons of songs.

Usually, they would have around 3 to 5 songs per movie. Also one cannot skip through the

music as it is most often than not a crucial part of the storyline. So it can be said audiences are

pretty much forced to enjoy the music. I won't lie, when I first started watching these movies,
random appearance of songs in the middle of a storyline annoyed me a lot, but slowly I became

more patient and got used to it. Like me, sooner or later, any bollywood movie watcher would

start enjoying the songs. I've observed that nowadays the music has changed a lot with the

Bollywood industry shifting to a much modern genre of music. Now, whenever I watch these

movies, the songs remind me of not only where I come from, but also helps me reminisce about

my childhood.

As I grew up, I started to explore different genres of music. During my school days, pop music

was very popular. Often my friends would recommend me to pop artists such as Selena Gomez,

Justin Bieber, etc. These artists exposed me to the world of pop music which instantly became

my new favourite thing. I would listen to them all the time mostly on the way to home from

school and when I was hiking. Likewise, when I watched some random YouTube videos, they

had certain kinds of background music which always intrigued me. I wondered what kind of

music was that. Upon learning about them, I found that they were called hip-hop music and

were most common with rappers. I find hip-hop music moving as the lyrics are life stories of

individuals and the hard times artists had been through. Most of what I hear today for

motivation is hip-hop due to the inspiration it gives me. Additionally, many artists would make

cross-cultural collaborations with other artists from a different part of the world. For example,

Spanish music was very new to me until artists like Selena Gomez collaborated with other

artists to create one.

In conclusion, I listen to music for reasons such as passing time while doing a difficult task,

seeking motivation, or getting work done effectively without losing concentration. The power

of music has always found a way to energize and refresh me spiritually. For me, the

accompaniment of music all these years has made music more than a mere entertainment, but

a way of life.
