Goal-Achieving Guide

Use this guide to help you set business objectives, personal goals, new year resolutions, etc..., to determine which tasks, habits,
and actions will create results, and to help you stay accountable to the process so you actually experience the success of
achievement. It takes just five simple steps.

1. Determine the right goal(s) for YOU.

If you do not have excitement and focused determination behind your goal setting, it becomes significantly more
difficult to achieve what you intend. Your goals & actions must be in line with your own passion and core values in
order to see the progress you are capable of. This is not the time to be worrying about what others want, acting out
obligations, or following lemmings. You must REALLY want to achieve your goal, know it is right for YOU, and be
positively energized by it. As you work through this guide, be aware of your connection to certain goals or ideas.

2. Consider WHY you want to accomplish certain things.

In order to achieve --to be more, to do more, or to have more-- your why needs to be powerful enough to override
habit. Why do you want to change? What do you want to put your time, money, and effort toward? Consider your
purpose, or how you want to use your life. This is your biggest “why.” Your mission can be likened to the journey
that you are currently on “what”, and goals are the steps along the way, the “hows.” Taking the time to determine
your why-power makes will-power almost irrelevant. It makes daily decisions much easier too...

PURPOSE: How do you want to spend your life? What do you want to put your time, money, and effort toward? In other
words, what are you going to do with the time and money?

MISSION: Most people have multiple missions throughout their life; these can be a project, a business, a career, a family,
etc... What passions do you have right now, what journey are you on currently? Note that your missions support your
purpose.

GOALS: Which milestones or benchmarks in the foreseeable future take you step-by-step closer to achieving the mission
you are currently on? Goals have more specific results and actions that support mission & purpose.

Do It Now.

3. Brainstorm ideas for goals (i.e., design your future and the actions needed).
Write all the things that come to mind that you want to do, regardless of money or time. You will narrow down the
list later, so for right now, open your mind wide and include everything you can think of! Who do you want to
become as a person? What about the “someday” stuff? Some areas to consider: Family, Relationships,
Financial/Wealth-Building, Business/Career, Lifestyle/Recreation/Community, Spirituality, Health/Physical, &
Mental/Intellect. Don’t even try to get this perfect in one shot; allow exploring of options and plan on the first time)
through to be a rough draft. Have fun! Write, scratch, circle, or star your way through until you can narrow down
to one Main Goal per area. It may also be helpful to prioritize those and select no more than 3 for immediate focus.

Other notes:

4. Once a goal is ‘right,’ write it down. (Important: do this in a certain way.)

Determine your top 1-3 goals to focus on and write them down. Yes, this means some commitment, but it doesn’t
mean you are a failure if you fail at achieving the goal(s). Now that you’ve set the right goal(s) for you, and you are
passionate about the outcome - how great it will be when you achieve it, you cannot imagine just sitting on your
hands, right? You want to take a moment and re-write the goal as a positive statement, as though you’ve already
achieved it. It is helpful to include a date -for motivation, but not as negative pressure. NOTE: You can keep
working on these for a few days if you feel the need. However, after you’ve spent focus time and made some
decisions and it feels pretty good, make a decision to stick with it.

5. Congratulations! Now, go get it done.

The good news is you’ve done the most powerful part. You are well on your way to achievement! Because you’ve
made the effort to determine meaningful goals, it makes actually achieving them significantly easier. Getting
specific enough to articulate and write them down is necessary to focus your mind on creating new results. Now all
you need to do is identify the actions and small habit changes needed to “get it done.” Consider again the person
you will be upon achieving these top priority goals, and set new positive habits that take you step-by-step closer to
achievement. Track your habits on a weekly basis for best results (use that below or recreate your own in Excel).
Set aside about 5 minutes daily on envisioning your success and tracking your new habits. Consistency is the key.
By the way, perfection is not necessary!

One more thing...

Don’t be discouraged by some mistakes or periods of lackluster performance along the way. Imagine a graph or
chart plotting your daily or weekly averages. As long as the trend line is moving in the right direction, pat yourself
on the back and celebrate your successes! As you look back over weeks, months, and years you will be amazed at
what you’ve achieved. Over time, you will naturally raise the bar and learn to achieve more in less time. In the
beginning allow yourself to make “mistakes,” re-focus on what you want, and KEEP GOING. When you’ve set the
right goals, it’s merely a matter of time. Positive attitude and focused action are all it takes to be successful.
