Application Versions

The EM 5.004 / EM 5.005 electronic measuring amplifier Two versions of the electronic position transducer are
converts – with the aid of a precision potentiometer with available:
protection IP 65 as pick-up – the mechanical dimension of • Normal version type EM 5.004
distance or angle of rotation linearly into an impressed DC • Explosion-proof version type EM 5.005
signal.
Thus the distances travelled or positions reached by The amplifying potentiometer allows setting of the 20
DREHMO actuators can be displayed directly, even over mA current signal corresponding to travel distance in the
long lines, as an appropriate current value on an indicating range from 45 %...100 %.
instrument.
Additionally, they can be evaluated by a computer. The current-distance characteristic can be reversed by
exchanging connections 1 and 2 with type EM 5.004 and
connections 1 and 3 with type EM 5.005.

When using the explosion-proof version (type EM 5.005) of

the electronic position transducer, the current valid
standards for the installation of intrinsically safe circuits
must be followed without fail (DIN EN 60079-14 / VDE 0165
Teil1).

Notes for application Electrical connection
1
To set up the electronic position transducer, remove the Actuators with wiring diagram KD 102 are connected as
DREHMO actuator limit switch compartment cover. follow (e.g. EM5.004 with 24V supply):
The reduction gear or pick-off gear resp. has to be set to
suit the valve stroke.
(See installation instructions for DREHMO actuators.)
4-wire-system
2
Normal version type EM 5.004
Connect the power pack and indicating instrument as
shown in the connection diagram below. Connect
terminals 7 and 8.

3-wire-system

Explosion-proof type EM 5.005

Connect the intrinsically safe supply unit and intrinsically
safe indicating instrument as shown in the connection 2-wire-system
diagram below.

3
Connect electronic position transducer according to wanted
operating mode (2-, 3- or 4-wire systems).
If the 4…20 mA signal is required for 3- and 4-wire systems,
terminals 3 and 4 have to be connected. (See schematic
diagrams of current flow, page 5).

4 Actuators with wiring diagram KD 102 are connected as

The indication instrument has to indicate 3,95…4,0 mA at follow (e.g. EM5.005 max. 22.5V with intrinsically safe
valve end position CLOSED and connected terminals 3 and supply):
4, otherwise it has to indicate 0 mA.

5 2-wire-system
Release the turning detend at value end position CLOSED
according to the installation instructions for DREHMO
actuators.

6
In the fully OPEN position of the valve fine-tune the final
current value on the fine adjustment potentiometer.
2-wire connection:
final current value 20 mA (I1)
3- and 4- wire connection:
final current value 24 mA (I1) or 20 mA (I2)
