ESSAY ACTIVITY

An essay is a text in which you express your opinion about a specific topic. This opinion has to be
supported by some facts and real information taken from different sources. Essays can be long or
short, depending on the topic, the writer or the text’s level of complexity.

Essays have four main parts:

i. The Introduction: here you highlight the main topic of the essay. The writer explains what
he is going to write about.
ii. The thesis: this part is located in the same paragraph the introduction is written. Here the
writer shows its opinion about the topic. It is usually one sentence and it’s also the last
one of the paragraphs.
iii. The arguments: These are the information taken from different sources that valid the
thesis. In a short essay two arguments can be used, each one in different paragraphs.
iv. The conclusion: This is the last paragraph of the essay and the writer will summarize what
they have stated in the entire essay.

I. What do you know about solar energy?

It is a renewable energy since the origin of this energy is the sun's rays, this energy is very friendly
and healthy with the environment, it does not cause any harm to the environment since it is a
pure energy.

II. Do you agree or disagree with the use of solar energy instead of fossil fuels?

I agree that this energy is used to replace this energy that pollutes the environment.

III. Is there any other energy source you would prefer instead of solar energy?

I like wind energy more but it is a bit expensive.

IV. Do you think people in Colombia should rely on solar energy?

if you trusted more energy, it is very cost effective and would reduce the consumption of
conventional electric current.

V. Do you think we are close to turn solar energy into an important energy source in
Colombia?

We are not close because currently very little is used and this energy that is very clean is also
almost unknown by other people.

 Is Colombia prepared to implement solar energy or renewable energies?

 What type of renewable energies are already being used in Colombia?
 How should we change our lifestyles in order to implement these new sources of
energy?
 Do you think there is clear legislation for the implementation of renewable
energies?

Outline

1. {Introduction} Renewable energies are important for the environment. Countries should
change their strategies towards these sources of energy. –{Thesis} Colombia has to
implement renewable energies to supply a 100% energy to the territory, using solar, wind
and hydro power.
2. {Argument 1} Colombia needs to stop depending on oil. Oil is a strong item in the
economy. Renewable energies can help the country to stop depending on the same

4. {Conclusion} In general, (In conclusion) it is important for Colombia to stop depending on
oil and start using renewable energies to get a better economy and environment.

What type of renewable energies are already being used in Colombia?
Introduction:
Well currently Colombia is one of the countries or power in the generation of solar energy
due to its high radiation emitted by the sun, which are used to reduce energy pollution
and help a little more to the environment.
Thesis:
In Colombia the use of solar energy has become an increasingly viable alternative
especially for generating electricity this has created a boom in new markets for non-
conventional renewable energy and tax benefits that have generated an ideal
environment for the development of small and large projects based on this type of energy
that make the country a reference in the development of environmentally friendly
renewable energy.

Argument 1:
In Colombia the use of solar energy has been implemented in many places of the country
in which they have contributed to reduce the energy expenses and help a little more the
environment, and nowadays it is still used more and more frequently since the inhabitants
or community are read made trainings of the importance of the use of the solar energy
and their privileges to use it.
Argument 2:
Thanks to the training given by the state to the different populations of the country, the
use of solar energy has increased much more than what was being done in 2017, and thus
reduce energy consumption and contribute a little more to the environment with this
clean energy.
Conclusion:
Colombia has made good use of this renewable resource which helps and contributes to
the conservation of the environment as well as to reduce a little the energy expense, with
conventional energy.

In addition we can also help because we can send the surplus energy that we have in order
to reduce the energy consumption because we are contributing with a little energy.
