Semester & Branch: V Semester B.E. Computer Science and Engineering

Name of the Faculty member: K.Rejini

Designation & Department: Assistant Professor & Computer Science and Engineering

Course Objectives:

1. This course will make the students to understand the protocol layering and
physical level communication.
2. The students can analyze the performance of a network.
3. This course will import the knowledge of the various components required to
build different networks to the students.
4. The students can be described the functions of network layer and the various
routing protocols.
5. The students will be familiar with the functions and protocols of the transport layer
and application layer.
Course Outcomes:

After completion of the course, it is expected that:

1. The students will have a good understanding about the basic layers and its
functions in computer networks.
2. The students should be able to evaluate the performance of a network.
3. The students should be able to understand the basics of data flows from one node
to another.
4. The students can analyze and design routing algorithms.
5. The students will be able to understand the working of various application layer
protocols.
Assessment Methods followed:

1. Internal Tests (Monthly Tests) are conducted to assess continuous learning.

2. Assignments are given to encourage students self-learning.

3. Mini Projects are given to improve the experiential learning.

4. End Semester Examination is conducted to assess overall learning by students.
