HOW THEY WORK top

Mini-Tek Coolant Switches:

The Red-E Parts Mini-Tek Coolant Switches operate on a capacitance sensing principle. The
probe portion of the unit, extending into the coolant, forms one plate of the capacitor, while
the coolant forms the other plate. With coolant present, the capacitance is greater than when
the coolant is absent. This difference in capacitance is used by the integral electronics to
provide a solid-state ON-OFF Signal.

(Fluid requirements - conductive fluids such as ethelyne glycol and water. Several extended
life coolants have beed tested. The customer should verify compatibility with the fluid
intended for use in his application.)

Mini-Tek Oil Level Switches:

The Red-E Parts Mini-Tek Oil Level Switches operate similarly in any liquid hydrocarbon.
On these versions, the probe portion of the unit, extending into the oil, forms one plate of
the capacitor, while the coil forms the other plate. The slick, non-fouling coating on the
probe and the oil itself work together to form the dielectric between the capacitor plates.
With oil present, the capacitance is greater than when the oil is absent. Again, the difference
in capacitance is used by the integral electronic to provide a solid-state ON-OFF signal. The
open spaces in the coil encourage rapid drainage.

(Fluid requirements - non-conductive fluids such as diesel fuel and engine oils with a
dielectric constant of 1.8 to 2.7. Several oils have beed tested. The customer should verify
compatibility with the fluid intended for use in his application.)

Directions for Retro-Fit Installation :

1. Check to see that kit has following parts:

1. Packard connector wiring assembly with
red,
blue and black wire leads, part #86420-
A2.
2. Fork terminal part #39600-A1 (Panduit
P/N
PV18-14FB-3K).
3. Male disconnects part #39601-A1
(Panduit P/N DV18-250MB-3K).

2. Identify wiring configuration of your

application to
be connected to Mini-Tek 913/824 Level
Sensor
according to the inset drawings:inset A (4
wires), (click for larger view)
inset B (standard headlight style connector),
or
inset C (3 wires).

3. Make all connections of kit wiring harness Order kit separately. Retrofit Kit
86420 Model
-A2 as shown to your application wiring by MTK-2 (for 913-824 only) includes: 1
securely fastening using software provided; Packard connector wiring assembly

Level Sensor into wiring harness 86420-A2
until all
harness wiring has been correctly installed.
The
black ground lead for wiring harness 86420
-A2
may be cut and stripped to appropriate
length
for your application. If your system does
not have
a ground lead (inset B and C), a fork
terminal has
been provided to connect on a 1/4" stud
or bolt for chassis grounding.

4. Since Mini-Tek Model 913/824 does not

provide
test function, the test lead terminal from
your
system wiring should be removed or
insulated
by covering exposed end.
5. If vibration is a factor in your system,
proper wiring
harness restraints are commended to avoid
insulation wear or loosening of connections.

6. Once all connections of kit wiring harness

have
been made to system wiring and checked,
install
Mini-Tek 913/824 Level Sensor noting
correct
orientation of the integral Mini-Tek
connector
with mating Packard connector wiring
harness
86420-A2.

Notes:
Red-E Parts recommends the use of moistureproof electrical
seal at interface of Mini-Tek Coolant and Oil Level Switch
units to prevent potential corrosion of the electrical
connections. Corrosion could cause faulty operation of the
cooling or oil sensing unit. This retrofit kit is made
available by Red-E Parts only as a means to interface
models 913/824 which have integral Packard style
moistureproof connections as replacement for models
613/624 which interface with a standard "headlight" style
connector, 4 wires or 3 wires (all non-moistureproof). Note
that models 913/824 are not for computer or low current
applications. Red-E Parts does not assume responsibility for
damages caused by misapplication from incorrect wiring or
faulty wire connections.
