2. What is your title?


“Elementary School Media Specialist”

3. What type of degree is required for your position?


“Georgia - Media in Education degree, Media Specialist P-12”

4. What are your job responsibilities?


“On a typical day, I handle all student chromebooks and the management of the physical
media center. I am responsible for all media programming, media materials, Title I materials,
physical library maintenance, purchasing, and upkeep of media center materials, book fairs
for fundraising. As the media specialist, I also meet with classes on a regularly scheduled
bases, where I allow class book check-out and conduct lessons as needed.”

5. How are you meeting the needs of faculty and staff during the transition to remote learning this
semester?
“During this current time, I am making sure all equipment is up and running, sending out
helpful tips and tricks, and being a liaison for students and family for chromebook support.”

6. How are you meeting the remote learning needs of students and parents?
“That is difficult to do. I am allowing myself to be readily accessible when chromebook needs
arise, most. I am also fulfilling suggestions of ebooks, although we do not have many. We
are currently not allowing books to be checked out.”

7. What are typical daily activities for your job?


“On a typical daily basis, my job includes student check in/out of books, lead approximately 6
media classes daily, and repair chromebooks as needed.”
8. Do you have a budget that you control? How do you make decisions on selecting resources for your
stakeholders?
“Yes, we have county funds of $2500. I typically Ask teachers, grade chairs, SILT (School
Improvement Leadership Team, and administration for needs. However, the decisions mostly
come from administration.”

9. Have you had an opportunity to impact technology implementation throughout your school? Would
you describe a specific example?
“I tend to have more of an impact on technology implementation with the students, rather than
with teachers. In grades 3-5, I often teach technology lessons with chromebooks when they
visit during their allotted media center time.”

10. Does your school have a technology committee?


“No, not at the school level, although, I think it would be very beneficial to have one.”

11. How are technology decisions made?


“Technology decision are made county wide, they are made through the technology
committee and the technology department at the county level.”

What about school wide?


“School wide, our administration makes all of the technology decisions. I can provide input,
but have very little to do with the decisions that are made.”

12. What is the best part of your job?


“I still love to watch children read, holding a book in hand. I know times are changing, but feel
that many students still love holding a physical book when reading. I love seeing the joy it
brings to them.”

13. What do you find to be the most challenging part of your job?
“Currently, I feel that the hardest part is keeping up with the tasks...I wear so many different
hats within the school, and multi-tasking at such a large school base is very difficult. I often
struggle to keep up”
