1. Introduction
The Change Giver has been designed for ease and simplicity of operation. The modular construction allows the
unit to be incorporated in the widest possible range of automated vending machines found on the market. The
switchover to a different coin set in the vending machine takes place simply on insertion of a correspondingly
programmed Coin Selector and the potential exchange of the pay out unit. No further adjustments are neces-
sary, the MSG 18 is immediately ready for use.
For applications which require a different configuration than the factory default settings an external service
adapter is available, which is directly attached to the Change Giver. The operator is guided through an easy to
read text menu.
Reprogramming may also be carried out using the optional chip card. The chip card may be used to hold all the
necessary data and then be transferred to the device, as needed, in a few seconds. No other adjustments to the
device are required in this case. This chip card may be prepared from a user-friendly PC program or the data may
be copied from another Change Giver.

a minimum of 2 seconds during power up then data is transferred from Coin Selector to the Change Giver and
permanently saved there. When this is done, the display will show
configured
In the chapters “Programming with the help of the Menu Keys” and “Programming with the Chip card” the
procedure for making changes to the factory settings is described.
Note: Never pull the plug from the electronic coin selector or Change Giver while power is applied.
Never carry the Change Giver at the coin insert.
Never carry the Change Giver at the power cable.
For those units without a display (MDB standard unit) the phases or possible errors are displayed through various
flashing frequencies of the status LED.

3.2 Error Messages on Communication Initialisation
The following messages may show up in case of an error:
Change Givers without a display signal an error message by rapid flashing of the Status LED. Please refer to chap-
ter “Error Trouble shooting” for further information.
A service adapter is required to make the following settings, only the “Empty Tubes” operation by 4 menu keys
is possible without a connected adaptor. This is generally adequate with MDB devices because all necessary ope-
rations can also be done through the vending controller.
In set-up mode the display will show the menu options or menu selection.
Key 1 (Í) The first menu choice is displayed after key 1 (Í) is pressed. Each time this key is pressed
the next menu selection is displayed. The Change Giver will return to its operating mode if no
key is pressed for 60 seconds.
Key 2 (Ë) The displayed menu item can be selected by pressing key 2 (Ë). This key is also used to select
submenus, in other words, to go down the menu tree. For example it can be used to select
the next coin value.
Key 3 (Á) Key 3 (Á) is used to move the cursor. The cursor position is marked by the character position
flashing.
Key 4 (+) Key 4 (+) increments the value at the cursor position.
In case Key 1 [Í] has been used to return to the main menu, by pressing key [+] additionally the
change giver will go into operating mode directly.
Press key 1 (Í) to return from a submenu to the main menu and thereafter key 4 (+) to reset the change giver
to normal operating mode.
Note: Only the standard menu items are displayed. To gain access to all listed menu positions key 1 (Í) and 4 (+)
must be pressed simultaneously and held down while the change giver is being switched on.

3.3.2 The Menu Choices
The following selections can be made by means of key 1 (Í). Pressing (Í) + (Á) you can go back in the menu
backwards.
After the last menu position, the first menu position will be displayed once again.
Note: As long as the change giver is in its menu mode, no coins are processed. During this time “Busy” is signalled
to the machine control with Multi Drop Bus protocol. With the Executive version no connection exists with
the machine control.

3.3.3.5 Coin values, coin blocking, token
As described in chapter “Installation” the coin values are stored in the coin selector. During the configuration of
the change giver the data relating to these values are transferred to the change giver and stored.
With this menu selection the coin values can be changed, coins can be blocked or marked as tokens.
The 16 coin channels are displayed in ascending order. Unused coin or token channels are assigned to the value
00.00 by the coin selector.

If a coin is marked as token, after each additional token acceptance the coin acceptance will be blocked. It is
compulsive to buy and a possible remaining credit will be always cancelled. After acceptance of a coin, which is
not marked as a token, the token acceptance is strictly blocked.
Note: It is also possible to change the coin values originally transferred from the coin selector into the change
giver. But the next data transfer from the coin selector as described in chapter ”Installation”, will set all
coin values to standard again.
Use key 2 (Ë) to select the desired coin channel and key 4 (+) to change a value that is under the
flashing cursor position. Key 3 (Á) will move the position of the blinking cursor.

If the extended menu is activated during the switching on of the change giver, the customers name can also be
imported from the accounting card. (see 3.4.4.)
Cascade Tubes
Cascading on
If cascading is activated all coins with the same value will be put together. Cascading is not recommended if there
is a configuration with different coins with the same value.
If the cascading has been changed, the configuration and coin data will be transferred anew from the coin
selector to the changer. Note that all manually changed coin values will be overwritten by the original data from
the coin selector. This is why a security check opens up before adopting the changes:

EN 55014-2
EN 50082-1 (Criteria B for Level 1, Criteria C1 for Level 1)
IEC Standards
The EC Standard Specifications which are still in the process of being developed have applied up to now for
finished products and their bringing into circulation. Tests are effected according to EMC regulations, which
means certification of electromagnetic compatibility and, if applicable, of re-radiation (emission). The tests have
been carried out in accordance with EN 50082-1 and EN 50081-1. These tests ensure, that electronic Change
Givers MSG 18 meet the general regulations. However, they do not exempt the seller of the machines from his
duty of care as there are still some other important characteristics of the machine which could impede the EC
conformity or restrict it.

Note: If the machine controller does not have a correct separation of the ground connection for communication
and power supply, this can lead to communication errors. In this case it can be helpful to set jumpers 5-6
in order to withdraw the separation of ground connection on the coin giver. This should however only
be carried out in exceptional circumstances. Jumpers 3-4 and 7-8 are on no account to be implemented in
the MDB operation. When changing from continuous to battery operation or vice versa please make the
corresponding settings via service menu of the change giver (see chapter 3.3.3.23, 3.3.3.24).
