INFORMATION ABOUT THE 2020/20/1 SEMESTER

for Students of the Faculty of Information Technololgy and Bionincs

Basis of the current and future situation:

Regarding the current pandemic situation, new wave(s) of the COVID virus are being expected
by experts (here in Hungary as well).
That’s why all the emergency regulations must be sustained on long term in the future. The
capacity of the Faculty building will be reduced, which means, that maximum 200-250 students
will be allowed to be attended simultaneously in the building.
Due to the above mentioned reasons, the capacity of the lecturer rooms will be reduced as well.
Most of the Hungarian universities intend to keep safety regulations, which means that keeping
the safety distance is a must. Courses will be taught in a blended format, with some course
sessions being organised online and some requiring personal presence. To help limit the density
of students in classrooms and allow for frequent cleaning, we will schedule in-person classes in
small groups during the semester.
Schedules are created by the following principles:
Unfortunately we are not able to follow the usual ways of scheduling courses. Due to the extreme
and unusual circumstances, we need a brand new educational structure and a flexible adaptation
from everyone in any case during the forthcoming semester.
All the classes will have their own online and offline (in-person) educational days with a strict
schedule. The goal is that we would be able to follow and control the number of the students in
the building and ensure the continuity of in-person courses. Students must attend online lectures
outside the Faculty building. This way we will be able to guarantee to keep the limitation of the
student’s number in the building.
All lectures will be held online and will have a dedicated time bar with an exact schedule. We are
planning two types of online courses depending on the decision of the lecturers: a so called
„synchronous” online lecture in real time, or a so called „asynchronous” online lecture, which is
recorded previously and will be streamed according to its schedule. In this case we can provide a
flexible timeline for you.
Practices/Labs: in-person or online, depending on the number of the students, content and
structure of the course or its teaching methodes
(At the same time, the Faculty plans to accommodate international students who cannot
arrive to Hungary on time – due to the delay in their visa procedure or any other reason
related to the worldwide Covid-situation – by offering them a fully online curriculum until
they can finally arrive in our country.)
Personal presence and its check won’t be compulsory on the online courses.
Two web platforms will be officially used during the fall semester: Microsoft Teams and
Moodle.

Information about the lecture halls and seminar rooms:

The capacity of the computer rooms will be reduced to 16 students. Computer rooms no. 219-220.
will be a united room for 32 person.

Capacity of the practice rooms: room no. 319-320. remains as one room for 40 students, room no.
239 for 32 students, room no. 418. és 419. for 20-20 students, room no.134 for 16 students.

Lecturer halls (in fix seat rows): it is allowed to sit in every second(2.) rows, on every third (3.)
seats. Considering that fact, the capacity of the Simonyi lecturer hall will be 48 students, Jedlik
lecturer hall’s 24 person, and the Neumann lecturer hall’s is 16 students.
The gym temporarily will be reconstructed to a lecturer room, its floor will be laminated,
furthermore a table and a projector will be installed, this way it will be accomodated for 48
students.
Please note that it is forbidden to change the positions of the chairs in all rooms where chairs
were installed into the right position in order to be able to keep the safety distance according to
the emergency regulations.
Important questions of the course registration:

Course registration will be completed in the Neptun system as usual. We will limit the number of
the students for all courses, considering the capacity of each new rooms in this new structure.
Please note that online courses will have only a date and time and obviously lecturer room won’t
belong to these courses.

Timetable clashes can be ignored in case of the online courses, however regulations of the course
clashes are still valid in case of all offline practices, where personal presence is compulsory.
