Some and Any

We use any and some with countable and uncountable nouns.

We usually use some in affirmative sentences.


We usually use any in negative sentencesand
questions. E.g.: There are some pens in the bag.

E.g.: Are there any messages for me?No, there


aren´t any. Look at the picture:

Complete the sentences bellow using some or any.

a) I´m going to buy some sugar because we haven´t got any


sugar left .

b) Have you got any rice?

c) Get any bread from the bakery, please.

d) There aren´t any eggs in the fridge.

e) The shop has got some clothes on the shelves.

Ask and answer questions like the example.

e.g.: Flour / fridge/pantry

A: Is there any flour in the fridge?

B: No, there isn´t any, but there is some in the pantry.

a) Cheese / table / fridge

A: Is there any cheese in the table?

B: No, there isn´t any, but there is some in the fridge

b) Fish / pantry / fridge

A: Do you have any fish in the pantry?

Look at the picture again and write sentences.

e.g.: There aren’t any pears but there are some bananas.

a) There are many eggs un the fridge

b) There are some fish but there aren´t any tomatoes.

c)There is some chicken in the fridge
