Abstract

The engines used in the automobiles are the major consumer of fossil fuels and
results in the pollution of air. In engine, only some amount of heat is converted into
useful work whereas the remaining heat is wasted as an exhaust heat among the total
heat generated by the combustion process. In case of vehicle, some amount of heat is
generated by the exhaust gas. Hence, there is a need for waste heat recovery system to
overcome the challenges discussed above. The waste heat can be utilized and
therefore reduces the use of fossil fuels and thereby pollution can be reduced to some
extent.

An energy harvesting system that can convert wasted heat energy from a
engine is to be designed. The power is generated from the heat dissipated from the
engine and silencers. Also additional energy is harvested from vehicle vibrations and
also from the wind energy produced during movement of vehicle. All sources are
combined and stored in battery and utilized for loads by using DC-DC boost converter
and single phase inverter.
