THIS IS A QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH, retrospective longitudinal COHORT study

This is a retrospective cohort study conducted at the Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health care
Services (RMCH), a stand-alone 100-bed medical hospital in Gallup, NM. The exposure cohort
consist of patients assessed with the use of the CIWA and treatment of symptom-reported per an
alcohol withdrawal protocol for 30 days. To be eligible for inclusion, patients are required to be
18 years of age and older, residents of Gallup, NM and hospitalized for alcohol intoxication or
alcohol withdrawal symptoms as defined in the CIWA protocol. The control cohort consist of
patients assessed symptom-report and treatment withdrawal per an alcohol withdrawal protocol
for a period of 30 days.

Statistical Analysis

Descriptive variables will be presented as medians with the interquartile range in brackets.
Categorical variables will be compared using the Pearson's χ2 test or Fisher exact test when
