NB THIS IS A DRAFT & INFO WILL NEED TO BE CHECKED AND VERIFIED

This folder holds the installation media for the SolidWorks Education Edition
Academic Year 2018-2019. It is intended to use the same media and version of
SolidWorks in CAD labs at WelTec in late 2018.

IF YOU ARE DOWNLOADING SOLIDWORKS BE SURE TO USE THE CORRECT VERSION

THE VERSION YOU NEED TO SHARE FILES WITH WELTEC WILL NOT BE THE LATEST
NOTE THAT FILES ARE NOT BACKWARD COMPATIBLE.

There's also a copy of the install files for the DWG Editor 2010.
(DWG Editor is useful for a few things it does that Draftsight doesn't do,
including lisp routines. It's also useful because it does not need to be
registered and will run without being "installed" ie like a "portable app".)

SUMMARY of INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1 Copy the appropriate install files from the R: drive - this removes the
need to download any install files from the internet
Step 2 Generate the activation code email from the SolidWorks website - DO NOT
proceed to download the install files
Step 3 Install the software from your copy of the files from the R: drive
NOTE SolidWorks no longer functions on Win XP, and it requires a 64-bit windows
operating system. (Win 7, Win8 or Win10)

Step 1
Copy the install files from the folder on the R: drive on the WelTec NAS which has
the following folder name;
SOLIDWORKS 2018 SP03
Once you have copied the files from the R: drive to your portable media, you can
use them to install SolidWorks on your computer.

Once SolidWorks is installed and activated using the process described here, it
should run for 365 days or until
July 31, 2019, whichever comes first.

Step 2
To activate your SolidWorks Student Design Kit you need to go to the solid works
website as follows;
http://www.solidworks.com/SDK
You will need the following school license SDK ID code: 92017SDK to complete the
form.
NOTE: The website form will probably ask you if you already have a Serial No.
starting with 9020.
If so, the ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION IS NO!

Be sure to check that the year or date range on the online form matches the Student
Design Kit version you are installing.
It is probably best to get the activation code before installing SolidWorks, as you
will need the activation serial number
to complete the installation, otherwise the software will stop working after a
relatively short "trial" period.

Once the online form has been submitted you will receive an activation serial
number via email, which you need to install the software,
NOTE: YOU WILL ALSO GET A DOWNLOAD LINK WHICH YOU DO NOT NEED. YOU DO NOT NEED TO
DOWNLOAD THE SOFTWARE FROM THE INTERNET - YOU CAN GET THE INSTALL FILES FROM THE R:
DRIVE
You only need the serial number which should be in an email in your inbox to
activate the software which you get from the R: drive.
The install files you need and the installation program are all in the following
folder on the R: drive
R:\! Software\SolidWorks\SOLIDWORKS 2018 SP03

Copy the folder above to your pc and use the setup.exe program in that folder to
install SolidWorks.

You need to "go thru the motions" of completing the online form, registering for
the student version of the software,
and accepting the software agreement, but DO NOT actually download the SolidWorks
installation files as they are a very
large download and you already have them from the R: drive. By filling in the
online form you will have generated the automated
email from SolidWorks to your nominated email address, which will contain the
activation code or serial No.

Step 3
Install SolidWorks using the install files downloaded from the R: drive, and enter
the activation serial number when requested at
the start of the installation procedure.

NOTE:
When filling in the form on the Solid Works website, be sure to correctly specify
the version of Solid Works that you are using.
If you accept the default option, and if the default is not (2018-2019) then you
may get the wrong activation code.

If you decide to download and install a more recent version of SolidWorks from the
website, be aware that you will not be able
to use any files you generate with any newer version, on the WelTec computers as
SolidWorks files are NOT backwardly compatible
and we will not upgrade the WelTec SolidWorks software until next year.

You may find the DWG Editor useful as it requires no activation, can be installed
and run from portable media, and has a few
analysis features which are not available in the free version of Draftsight. The
DWG Editor is no longer being distributed with
SolidWorks, but it can read and write .dwg & .dxf files which are compatible with
SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
