Chandragiri was a town on banks of river Godavari.

Prakash Rao, a land lord in Chandragiri had a

niece Kamala Devi who was 8 years when her parents died. Kamala was a fierce, independent
woman who learnt Kathi samu, an ancient martial art. Surya, childhood friend of her studying in
Hyderabad often used to bring her books on various subjects which she read curiously.

One day, kamala came across a van preaching about Christianity. she recently even heard that a
church father named Paul came and met Patel Saab, an influential person, rumoured to be
contesting in the next election. In the evening, Seetha told her that he is converting into a Christian
and gave money to start building churches.

Next day, group of officers claimed approximately 200 acres of land belonged to government
whereas 75 families owned them for years. They were sent a notice and were told to stop work
immediately. The people didn’t know what to do. Even Seetha’s family was one of them and Kamala
consoled them. After two days, some missionaries started visiting the houses preaching bible and
claimed that converting into their religion would solve all their problems. Being in a vulnerable state
due to the issue most of them agreed.

One night, while going to Seetha’s house, kamala saw Patel Saab giving money to father Paul, two
officers and some people who got converted. She passed by but couldn’t forget what had happened.
Gradually more events started to happen, preaching and even claiming to cure diseases if they
converted. Poor people were also given money. Witnessing all this, kamala went and confronted
Patel Saab, he tried to give her money but she didn’t accept. Prakash Rao even shouted at her for
going against big people and told her to sit at home quietly.

when surya came back, she told him everything and both of them realised that this is to win
elections.it was the same day when the conversion ceremony was happening when they went to
panchayat’s office and collected documents regarding the land issue. both of them reached the
event with the officers while father Paul was giving a speech and started beating them until Patel
spoke about his plan. The village was shocked and there was pin drop silence. Then kamala spoke
“religion should be one’s own choice and we shouldn’t let others influence and manipulate us for
their own good. Religion is not even the problem but those who use it to gain power are…” she gave
their documents back and contested in the election and won with a great majority.
