A dangerous pool

Jimmy lived in the country and he loved to play in a small river

near the house. But then his father got a job in a big city, and Jimmy
went to live there with his family.
Their new house had a big garden, but the garden was very small.
Jimmy wasn’t very happy. “Is there a river near there?” he asked his
mother on the first morning. His mother answered, “No, there is not,
but there’s a beautiful park near here, Jimmy, and there’s a pool in it.
We’ll go there this afternoon.” Jimmy was happy.
After lunch, Jimmy and his mother went to the park. Jimmy wanted
to come near the pool, but there was a warning in front of it. His mother
read it to him. “This pool is dangerous. 157 people fell into it.” Jimmy
looked into the pool and then said, “I can’t see them.”

Christmas in Great Britain and America

The most popular holiday in Great Britain and America is

Christmas. They celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December.
There are a lot of traditions connected with Christmas. Every year
people of Norway give the city of London a present. It's a big Christmas
tree and it stands in Trafalgar Square.
Most families decorate their houses with a Christmas tree, buy gifts
for the family and friends, write Christmas cards. In England almost every
family receives more than 60 Christmas cards.
On Christmas Eve people put their presents under the tree. And
usually they have Christmas crackers. When you pull them, they make a
bang and inside there is usually a paper hat or a small toy.
People open their presents on Christmas morning and they all are
happy with what they have.
For Christmas lunch people eat turkey, potatoes and green
vegetables. Then they have Christmas pudding. In England they make
Christmas puddings before Christmas. All the family stir the pudding and
make a wish. At five o’clock it's time for tea and Christmas cake.
The day after Christmas is Boxing Day. People usually visit their
relatives and friends. They don't work on that day.

A Smart Lesson
Harry was always making excuses for forgetting to do things. His usual
excuse was "I was too busy" or "I didn't have time". Harry's parents were
worried about him. "He mustn't go through life making excuses all the
time", his father said. "No one will trust him to do anything. He won't be
able to keep a job. No sensible girl will want to marry him".
"I don't know what we can do", his mother said.
"I have an idea", his father said. "If this doesn't work, nothing will".
The next day was Harry's birthday. He was really looking forward to
getting exciting presents. He woke up expecting his parents to wish him
"Happy Birthday!" but all they said was "Good morning. Harry. Hurry, or
you'll be late for school". There were no presents, not even a card. He was
very disappointed. "Never mind", he thought. "There'll be a surprise for me
after school". But there wasn't. Sadly he said to his parents at dinner,
"Today's my birthday". "Oh!" his father said. "So it is. I forgot.'
"So did I", his mother said. "How could you forget?" Harry asked. "There
must be a reason". "Well, yes", his father said. "We have a really good

The Gorilla Joke
A gorilla went into a coffee shop, sat down and ordered a cup of coffee.
The waiter was a bit nervous at first, but there weren't any other customers
and the gorilla seemed quite friendly, so he let him sit in peace. Who'd
argue with a gorilla, anyway? While the waiter made the coffee, he
watched the gorilla from the kitchen. The gorilla just sat there, staring at
the ceiling. The kettle boiled and the waiter made a fresh cup of coffee and
took it in. The gorilla handed him a five-pound note, and went on drinking
coffee. The waiter took the five-pound note and went back to the kitchen to
get some change. While he was in the kitchen he watched the gorilla, who
drank the coffee, but for the rest of the time just stared at the ceiling. The
waiter thought to himself, 'That gorilla won't know the difference between
19
a pound note and a five-pound note — he's only a gorilla, after all.' So he
took a pound coin and went in to give it to the gorilla. As he handed it over,
he said: "We don't get many gorillas in here". The gorilla took the pound
and replied: "I'm not surprised, with coffee at four pounds a cup"

The story of Victor Frankenstein.

I was born in Switzerland, in the city of Geneva where my family had

been important for many years. My father married his best friend's
daughter. It was a most happy marriage and my parents shared their love
with me.
My mother hoped to have a daughter, but for five years I was their
only child. Then my parents took me on holidays to Italy, and we spent a
week on shores of Lake Como.
One day we were out for a walk in the countryside and my mother
saw a very small house and a number of thin poorly clothed children
playing in front of it. We could see that the family had very little money,
and that the children were hungry. My mother went and spoke to the
farmworker and his wife who lived in the house. Four of the children had
the dark hair and eyes of their parents. The fifth was a little girl, and she
was very fair, with hair of gold and blue eyes.
The woman told my mother that this little girl was the daughter of
an Italian nobleman who had given them the child to look after when his
wife died. The nobleman paid them well but soon he died and left nothing
to the little girl. However, the kind farmworker and his wife had brought
her up, though there was hardly enough for their own children.
So my parents adopted the little girl.

My favourite writer.
My name is John, I am thirteen years old. I iive in England, in Nottingham.
I am fond of reading English literature. We've got a big home library. My
favourite writer is Charles Dickens. He was born in 1812 and lived till 1
870. He is one of England's greatest writers. At a young age Dickens was
forced to work in a factory under terrible conditions. The boy's childhood
was very hard and sad. Then Dickens worked as a reporter in law courts
and later for London newspapers. In 1837 he published his comic novel
"The Pickwick Papers" which made him popular. A long line of successful
novels followed: "Oliver Twist" (1837), "A Christmas Carol" (1843), "A
Tale of Two Cities" (1859) and "Great Expectations" (1861). Dickens saw
all the social evils of the English society and they worried him greatly. I'd
like to point to the most favourite books of mine written by this famous
writer. The first one is a novel "David Copperfield" which he wrote in 1849
- 1850. This novel is partly based on Dickens's early life and his struggle to
become a writer. The characters in the book were actual people Dickens
knew while many adventures of the hero, David Copperfield, were part of
his own experience as a young boy. Another novel which is worth reading
is "A Christmas Carol". It's a wonderful story written by Dickens more than
a century and a half ago. The writer wanted to show that love, care and
patience: were much, stronger that greediness, anger and hatred. People of
all generations and of all times should remember about it.

Entertainments.
There is a plenty of entertainments in the world and people can choose
them according to their tastes, mood or maybe opportunities.
Entertainments include films, TV. books, concerts, cinemas, theatres,
discos, travelling and different parties. Some families prefer to take their
children to museums, art galleries or parks at the weekend. It's a nice way
of spending free time together for the whole family. It is quite normal for
British families to visit theme parks in summer. The amusements on offer
at such parks include a range of rides in various ways, some of them can
bathe you in the water. The really adventurous rides turn you upside down
at great speed. It's very exciting for all visitors. And this must be how the
British enjoy themselves most because last year the nine most famous
theme parks attracted more than twenty million visitors. The British
Museum is another place which attracts people in their free time. It is

Amelie's Christmas
Amelie was keeping her eyes closed tight. Yesterday it was Christmas and
she went to bed too late. Her parents gave Christmas dinner and it was not
easy. Her mother's relatives, the Clermounts, were too excited with the
dinner and turned up at 9:30 a.m. They were too dull talking about their
horses and races. They ran stables and knew all horses of the UK and some
in Switzerland. Amelie tried to engage them into conversation about fine
arts. Mr. Clermount got very enthusiastic discussing how naturally horses
look on some pictures. While Amelie was suffering from too many horses,
her mother, Mrs. Lester, was suffering from too much ingredients, which
she had to combine, in order to cook Christmas dinner. The art of cooking
was an absolute mystery for her, and she struggled with all that eggs, milk,
flour, chickens. Ingredients were more skilful in struggling and Mrs. Lester
sent Mr. Lester to the nearest restaurant for a take-away meal. At that very
moment Mrs Clermount remembered that she had left all Christmas
presents at their farmhouse and Amelie had to accompany her at her rash
shopping tour. After three-hour search Mrs. Clermount picked up two
blouses to: Amelie ar.d he: —other and a Chinese watch, that looked right
like a true Rolex, Amelie's rather. Everything was for a good price of
twenty-two pounds. When Christmas dinner was over, Amelie was so tired
that she wasn't even disappointed to learn that Santa Clause brought her a
big book about horses.

The Mystery of the Ghost Ship
On November 4, 1872 two friends, captains Moorhouse and Briggs, and
their wives were having dinner together in New York. Captain Moorhouse
commanded the ship Dei Gratia while captain Briggs headed the crew of
Mary Celeste. Next day, on November 5, Mary Celeste left port and went
to Italy. There were eight members of the ship crew on the board. Besides
33
captain Briggs took his wife and two-year-old daughter Sophie with him, as
the journey promised to be peaceful.
Captain Moorhouse left port seven days later. On December 4 the sailors of
Dei Gratia saw a ship, that was going the similar course with them. This
was Mary Celeste going so wildly that" Moorhouse understood that
something was wrong with the ship, He sent some of his sailors to Mary
Celeste. There was nobody on the board. All people disappeared without
any sign. The supply of water and food, the cargo, the crew's clothes and
personal things were in good order. All machines were all right. But it
seemed that people left the ship in a great hurry. Navigation instruments, a
lifeboat and the ship's papers except the logbook were missed. The last
note was made 11 days before. But it didn't explain the mystery of the
ghost ship.
Numerous theories about the fate of people were made. Many popular
stories, novels and plays speculated over the tragedy. But the mystery of
Mary Celeste is still the greatest one of all times.

Leisure of British Young People
Young people in Great Britain have plenty of free time in the evenings and
at the weekends to fill with hobbies of all kinds. There is no doubt that the
most popular leisure activity of all is watching TV. In fact the average
Briton watches about 25 hours of television every week. They have a
choice of four national networks (BBC1, BBC2,1 TV and channel 4) plus a
dozen or so satellite and cable stations. The second most popular leisure
activity is visiting or entertaining friends. Listening to music and reading
follow in the third and fourth position. Going for a meal or to the cinema is
widely spread among the British youth as well. Next comes voluntary
work. A surprising 25% of British adults are involved in voluntary work of
some kind. There are more than 250,000 voluntary organisations in the UK.
Many voluntary groups try to raise money for local charities connected
with schools or churches while others concentrate on international
problems such as famine in Africa. Perhaps the most traditional leisure
activity is sport, which is divided into participation and spectator sport. The
most popular spectator sport is football. Then we should mention rugby,
cricket and athletics. When it comes to participation sport, nobody will be
surprised to find that walking is number one in this way. Swimming is
second. Young men are also fond of snooker, darts, cycling and squash.
Young women prefer to keep fit. At 15 years old and above young people
try to find «Saturday jobs», working as assistants in shops, cafes or
restaurants to have pocket money. They save this money for bicycles,
motorbikes, and spend it for discos and dances.

always gets ready for this religious holiday beforehand. On Sviat Vechir
we gather around the table for a holy supper of twelve symbolic dishes. We
are not allowed to start supper until the first star appears in the sky. We
begin our supper with the kutia (a dish of honey, poppy seeds and wheat
kernels boiled in pure rainwater). There are no meat and meat products on
our table. My granny is a wonderful cook, so we enjoy her varenyky,
holubtsi and desserts made from dried fruit and honey. After tasty supper
we go to bed. Early in the morning we go to church to take part in the
church service. When we come back home we give each other presents and

The texts for teachers
Text I. Cambridge University at a Glance
In 1209, several hundred students and scholars moved some 60 miles from
Oxford. Due to some troubles with life and studies, they had to get away
from Oxford and settle down in a small place where they established a new
university. There were no colleges at those days and student life was
absolutely different from what it is now. Students were of all ages and
came from everywhere. They made a community, but not all was quiet and
peaceful in their lives. Gradually the idea of the College developed and in
1284 Peterhouse, the oldest college in Cambridge, was founded.
Life in College was strict; students were forbidden to play games, to sing
merry songs, to hunt or fish, and to dance. Books were rare and all the
lessons were in Latin which students were supposed to speak even among
themselves. In 1440, King Henry VI founded King's College, and then
other colleges followed. Many great personalities studied at Cambridge,
among them Erasmus, Bacon, Milton, Cromwell, Newton, Wordsworth,
Byron and Tennyson. With the course of time, Cambridge and its colleges
gained worldwide popularity and became Oxford's rival in terms of
education, research, development and sports. Both Oxford and Cambridge
became a standard for any educational establishment that has been created
since then throughout the world.
Text II Spanish Omelette
The traditional Spanish omelette is a full dish itself. Each Spanish family
produces its own individual version of it according to the season and the
availability of vegetables. The following recipe is the most familiar.
- 450 g potatoes, peeled, washed and finely sliced
- salt - 150 ml vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, peeled and finely chopped
- 6 eggs - 4 - 5 tablespoons olive oil
Sprinkle the potatoes with the salt. In a large frying pan heat the vegetable
oil. Add the potatoes and onions and fry them over a medium heat for 15
minutes, turning them until they are properly cooked. Remove from the pan
with a spatula and drain off most of the excess oil.
43
Stir the eggs in a bowl with a little salt, add the potato mixture and mix
well. Heat olive oil in a smaller pan and pour in the egg mixture. While
cooking, shape the omelette into a round, pressing the edges away from the
sides of the frying pan. Serve with a green salad.

Frank Johnston is interviewing Mrs Vanessa Bold about her ordinary
working day.
Frank: Good evening, Mrs Bold. Please, tell our viewers about your
weekday's life.
Mrs Bold: Good evening. Well, I wake up at 7, get up at 7.^5...
Frank: Excuse my interrupting you, Mrs Bold, but what are doing all this
time?
Mrs Bold: I am having my breakfast in bed and read "The Times". So, then
I drive to my office - I hate having drivers - and start doing a big load of
work at once.
Frank: What does your day start with?
Mrs Bold: First of all, I read my mail and dictate my answers to the
secretary. Then I have a meeting for about half an hour and listen to my
managers' reports on yesterday's achievements and results.
Frank: Are you strict with your personnel?
Mrs Bold: Yes, I am. If I am not, they will go loose and my company will
turn into ashes! *
Frank: What's then?
Mrs Bold: Well, then it's time to walk with Porter and Sanders...
Frank: Excuse me. Who are they?
Mrs Bold: Porter is my cocker spaniel and Sanders is my personal assistant.
We discuss the recent business events and our plans for the nearest future.
Frank: And what time do you have lunch?
Mrs Bold: At 13 - 13.30, not earlier. I just can't make it earlier with my
schedule. And I eat alone - like to be in solitude at least for a while. And no
business matters during my lunchtime!
Frank: What is the second half of your day filled with?
Mrs Bold: Well, usually I am doing my tour around the company and
watch my people working. Sometimes talk to them. Then have several
business conversations with the dealers, branch offices, and even our rival
companies.

44
Frank: Thank you very much for your time, Mrs Bold. And the last
question. Are you satisfied with what you are doing?
Mrs Bold: Yes, of course, I am. I would like to work in this industry for a
very long time. Thank you. Good-bye.

Meals and Laying the Table in Ukraine
The hospitality of Ukrainian people is well-known throughout the world.
When a foreigner sets foot in Ukraine first he gets acquainted with our
cookery - national dishes and meal-times. He has to do in Ukraine as the
Ukrainians do.The usual meals in Ukraine are breakfast, lunch, dinner and
supper. Breakfast is the first meal of the day. Lunch or luncheon is a light
meal usually in the middle of the day. Dinner is the chief and the most
substantial meal. Working people usually have a break for dinner at their
place of employment. If you have a special dinner, you should know how
to lay the table on such an occasion.First you spread the table cloth and put
out table mats to protect the table from the hot dishes: a plate of soup, a
bowl of hot vegetables and etc. Then you put soup spoons and all the
cutlery -knives and forks, including a small knife for the butter and a fruit
knife for the dessert. You should put the knives and the soup spoon on the
right-hand side and the fork on the left. On the left of each guest you put a
small plate for bread and on the right - a wine glass. Don't forget to put out
the table napkins for each guest and place several salt-cellars. Please don't
forget to put a bowl of beautiful flowers on the dinner table. I remember
my last receiving the guests. It was my birthday party. We started with
hors-d'oeuvres followed by a clear soup with meat pie, the second course
included chicken with rice and vegetables and salad. Then ice-cream for
the sweet and fruit for dessert. And, of course, I baked a nice cake. All my
guests were pleased with my birthday party.

six "know" that they want to be doctors, or pilots, or fire fighters. But the
majority of us are not sure about the future career. Choosing an occupation
takes time, and there are a lot of things you have to think about while
deciding what you'd like to do. Fortunately, there are a lot of people you
can turn on for advice and help in making your choice. At most schools,
there are teachers who are professionally qualified to counsel you and to
give detailed information about job qualifications. And you can talk over
your ideas with family members and friends who are always ready to listen
and to offer suggestions. But if other people help you to make a decision,
self-evaluation is an important part of the decision-making process.
4. Correct the information in these sentences. (1 point)
1. The majority of young people have no problem of choosing their future
job.
2. It's a very quick and easy process.

The Status of a Man and a Woman in the Society
The Women's Liberation Movement began in the 1960s. It was started by
women who were worried about their identity, their role in society and their
work. A lot of women want full equality with man in every sphere of life.
They want husbands to share all the work and responsibilities of home and
family. They want women and men to have the same jobs and the same
chance to make a career. They also want to be paid just as much as men for
the same work. It is important to remember that the Women's Liberation
Movement is not concerned only with concrete issues; it is also concerned
with attitudes and beliefs. For example, the issue of women's identity.
Some women don't think they are capable of doing anything important.
This Movement helps these women improve their views on themselves. The
second important issue of Women's Liberation Movement is the question of
women's role in society. Should a woman work s outside the home, should
she work if she is married and has children? Many people feel that women
ought to be considered equal to men in every way. But there are some men
who don't share this view. To their mind, the most important women's role
is to be a good wife, a careful mother and to keep all households. Our
modern world, fortunately, gives more opportunities for women to be on
one social ladder with men. We can find a lot of companies, banks and
offices where the managers are women. They have made a bright career. It
shows that women are clever, hard-working and ambitious enough to feel
absolutely equal with men in the society.
5. Mark these sentences true or false. (3 points)
1. The Women's Liberation Movement began in the 1950s.
2. All women want to be equal with men in every sphere of life.
3. This movement is concerned with different issues.
4. The movement helps women to believe in themselves.
5. All men believe that the main role of a woman is to be a nice housewife
and mother.

society.

MOTHER TERESA
Mother Teresa was a simple nun. She never wanted to be famous, but
everyone in the world knew who site was. She received many important
awards. She travelled around the world to accept them. She asked people
for help. Then she gave everything to poor people.
Mother Teresa was born Agnes Gonxha in 1910 in what is now Macedonia.
She was the youngest of three children. Agnes's father died when she was a
child. Her mother made dresses to support their family Agnes's mother also
liked to do charity work, such as visiting the sick. Agnes often went with
her and she enjoyed helping these people. She was a good and religious
girl. Even as a child, Agnes wanted to be a nun. When she was 18 years old
53
she joined a group of nuns in Darjeeling. India. There, she chose the name
Teresa. Then she went to Calcutta to work at St. Mary's School. The school
was in a convent. Sister Teresa lived in the convent and worked at the
school for 20 years. She eventually became the principal. During all those
years, Sister Teresa was always concerned about how other people lived.
The convent had clean buildings and beautiful lawns. But outside the
convent, the streets were dirty and crowded and full of very poor people.
One day in 1946, Sister Teresa was riding on a train to Darjeeling. She
looked out of the window and saw dirty children. They were wearing rags
and sleeping in doorways. Sick and dying people were lying on filthy
streets. She loved her work at the school, but she realized that other people
needed her help more. At that moment, she believed God sent her a
message. She decided to go to work with the poor. Two years later, Sister
Teresa left the convent. First, she went to a hospital to learn to take care of
sick people. After three months, she was ready to live with the poor and the
sick. One day, she saw a group of poor children and called them to her. She
told them she was going to open a school. The school had no roof, no
walls, and no chairs. On the first day, only five students came. She used a
stick to write lessons in the dirt.
Several months later, Sister Teresa had many students. Everyone in
Calcutta knew about her. A friend let her use part of his house for the
school. She taught the children language and math. She also taught them
how to keep clean and stay healthy. Soon, other nuns came to help her.
Sister Teresa was happy that they wanted to join her. But she told them that
life with her was not easy. She said that everyone had to wear the same
clothes — white cotton saris. She wanted all the nuns to look like the poor
people in India. In I948, Sister Teresa started her own group of nuns. They
were called the Missionaries of Charity. She was their leader, so they called
her "Mother" "Teresa. The nuns lived in the slums with people who were
poor, dirty and sick. It was hard work and the days were long. But many
other nuns came from around the world to join Mother Teresa. One day,
Mother Teresa saw an old woman in the street. She took her to a hospital.
They refused to help the woman because she was poor. Mother Teresa
decided to open a place for the sick and the dying. Later, she started homes
for children without families. She also started clinics. Over the years, news
of her work spread around the world. Many people sent her donations of

54
money. Others came to work with her in India or other places. By 1990, the
Missionaries of Charity were working in 400 centres around the world.
Over the years, Mother Teresa received many great awards, such as the
Nobel Peace Prize. But she always said her greatest reward was helping
people. Her message to the world was, '"We can do no great things - only
small things with great love". She died in 1997 at the age of 87. The whole
world mourned her death.

Thomas Alva Edison
The American inventor, Thomas Alva Edison, was born in Ohio in 1847.
Tom, or Al, as his family called him, was one of those children who are
always asking "Why?" He was always trying to learn how things worked or
how they were made. The boy's education was limited to three months in
the public school of Port Huron, Michigan. He started work in 1859 when
he was only twelve. Young Edison began to travel on one of the trains
between Port Huron and Detroit. He sold fruit, sweets and cakes to the
passengers. The hours that he had to wait at Detroit before starting' back
home, he spent in the library reading technical books. Several years later, in
1863, Edison learned telegraphy and he became a telegraph operator. He
was soon one of the fastest operators in a large telegraph company in
Boston. He wanted to improve the telegraph system and worked very hard
at it. Night after night he read “The Book of Experiments”, by Michael
Faraday, the inventor of the electric generator, in the hope that this would
help him to solve his problems. He did not sleep more than four hours a
night and sometimes he did not go to bed at all. He often did not even find
time for breakfast. "Aren't you going to stop to eat your breakfast?" his
landlady once asked him. "No", he answered, "I've got so much to do, and
life is short". After a few months of work, he built a transmitter of a new
kind. This was his first important invention. Edison was advised to go to
New York where the opportunities were greater. He did so, but when he
reached New York in 1869, he had no money left at all. "I had to walk in
the streets all night because I hadn't the price of bed, and in the morning
nothing to buy breakfast with", he said. But soon he opened a small
workshop. In 1867 he had two inventions. One of Edison's greatest
inventions was the gramophone, or the "phonograph", as he called it, which
55
repeated his words. He told his assistants that this was the beginning. The
time would come, he said, when this new instrument would record music.
"It will play symphonies and whole operas, the world will hear again the
great singers who are no longer living". Another of Edison's inventions was
the electric lamp. Edison believed that only work could bring success. He
continued active work until only eighteen days before his death in 1931, at
the age of eighty-seven. That evening, Americans all over the country
turned off their electric lights for a few moments — the light which, Edison
had given them.

The valuable fence.
The Greggs were coming back from their first trip to Europe. On board
"The Queen Elizabeth" they got acquainted with a Frenchman. His English
was good and soon they got quite friendly. The Frenchman told the Greggs
that he was an artist and his name was Lautisse. He asked them to keep it in
a secret. He did not like publicity. The Greggs didn't know any artist whose
name was Lautisse. So they talked to the ship's librarian and found out that
their new friend was the world's famous artist whose pictures were very
valuable and expensive. The librarian found a book with a biographical
sketch and a photograph. The sketch said that the artist had retired at fifty-
three to a villa on the Rivera. He said he would never touch a brush again.
Lautisse was going to spend a month in New York. Mrs. Greggs suggested
that he would come to their place for the weekend. The artist accepted the
invitation and made them promise not to invite any other people to their
place and not to speak about art. At the appointed time Lautisse arrived at
the Greggs and they were happy to see him. Mr. Greggs and his wife did
their best to entertain the famous artist, but he did not want to go for a
swim or walk in the wood. He wanted to sit and relax. The next morning
Mr. Greggs got up very early as he wanted to paint the fence around the
vegetable garden. He took a brush and was about to begin painting when
Lautisse approached him, as soon as he saw the brush, he seized it from
Mr. Greggs and began painting the fence. The same day Lautisse started for
New York. Some correspondents found out about Lautisse's stay in New
York. An article was published in one of newspapers saying: "Mr. Lautisse
has spent all his time in New York except for the weekend at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Greggs. He met the Greggs on the ship coming from Europe".
The day after the story appeared, two reporters came to the Greggs' place.
They wanted to know everything about the stay of the famous artist at their
place. They were shown the fence painted and signed by Lautisse. A long
57
article, headlined "Lautisse paints again", was published the next day. The
fence turned out to be a valuable thing. It was sold for a big sum of money.
It was taken to a museum. The fence was not worth it.

IV. Write a report to the newspaper about Valentino's Restaurant

using an example. Use the table.
1. The purpose of my report is to assess the new Blue Moon Restaurant in
Abington's city centre, which I visited on 14th May.
Food and Prices
The menu at the Blue Moon is rather boring for vegetarians as there are
only a few salad and pasta dishes to choose from. However there are plenty
of delicious dishes for those who eat meat. I ordered the grilled chicken
61
with Basmati rice. The chicken was very tasty, but the rice was rather cold!
I also thought that the Blue Moon was rather expensive.
Service
The staff at the Blue Moon were friendly and helpful. Our waiter was polite
and patient with us. Although it was very busy on the night I visited the
Blue Moon, the service was still fast.
Atmosphere
The comfortable seating, lovely furnishings and live piano music helped to
give the Blue Moon a relaxing atmosphere.
Conclusion
The new Blue Moon Restaurant in Abington's city centre is, in the whole, a
wonderful place to dine. However, I think the manager should make a few
changes. Firstly, she should have a wider selection of vegetarian dishes.
Secondly, all hot dishes should be served hot. Finally, the manager should
lower the prices to give everyone a chance to visit this fabulous new
restaurant.
