INTRODUCTION

For guide number three, we reviewed a case study about a sportswear company and three
candidates for the CEO position, we took roles as the candidates and also the role of members of
the board in order to present the strategies to improve the business performance and then discuss
what was the best strategy. We practiced and learned about relative clauses, passive voice and
used expressions for meetings.

We presented our points of view for each strategy, advantages and disadvantages and reached a
conclusion to select the best candidate and strategy. In addition to that, we wrote a business
report about the meeting and our final decision. We learned what is a paragraph and its typical
structure, linking words, coherence and unity, also learned the structure and the expressions for a
business report. We consider that this guide helped us to develop our communication skills
while handling business meetings and have a better understanding of some topics related to
leadership.

1.2 Business Report by Liseth Vanessa Chaparro Arias

Introduction
The aim is this report is to describe each one of the three strategies presented for the CEO
position of Lina Sports company. Shows the advantages and disadvantages in terms of risks and
costs, the best suitable strategy, and final recommendations for actions.

Strategy 1:
This strategy presents different ideas on how to help the company grow financially by merging
with a French retailer, avoid dependency on usual markets, offer a new type of products, and
involve low levels of management to be responsible for some decision-making.

Strategy 2:
This strategy introduces a different way to innovate and increase profits by paying well-known
sportsmen and women to get opinions on new kinds of products with revolutionary designs and
prices, also buy smaller specialist companies to manufacture products with less competition.

Strategy 3:
This strategy is more concentrated on increasing profits, suggesting the option to bring
collections of products made by famous international designers, luxury sports goods, customized
products and accessories to attract consumer attention. Create internal business units with its own
management to compete and lead the company to greater efficiency.

Advantages and Disadvantages

We highlighted advantages like the different ideas to implement a new type of products and
work with markets where there is less competition, also reduce the company’s endorsements
with top sportspeople, and restructure the company in different business units to improve
business performance.

Consequently, we highlighted disadvantages like the proposal of merging the company with the
French retailer, which can be a risk due to the different operations and equipment used for the
manufacturing of our products. Also, working with specialized companies to manufacture
products with less competition won’t be necessary at this point, since we’re looking to reduce
costs and invest wisely on different marketing strategies to lead us back to business.

Conclusion:
Each strategy is focused on increasing profits, reduce costs, and be more competitive in different
markets to lead the company back to success. We chose the strategy of director number 3, Emilia
Green, who presented different marketing ideas and how to change the restructure of the
organization.

Recommendation:

6
We should consider one of the main points of strategy number two, about reducing the
company’s endorsement with top sportspeople to ensure that the new CEO can carry out her
strategy without problems.

CONCLUSIONS

This guideline helps us to have a better understanding about leadership and put it in context
with the different activities, also allowed us to learn the correct use of Relatives Clauses and
Passive Voice which at the same time were implemented in the communicative skills for the
discussion of study case. We also did an extra research that helped us support our arguments and
make a final decision as a group.

Furthermore, the study case involved all the vocabulary learned through the guideline, we
worked together to get a right conclusion about all the strategies.
