Course Description
This course deals with principles of ethical behavior in modern society at the level of
the person, society and in interaction with the environment and other shared resources. It is
organized according to the three main elements of the moral experience, such as the agent
including its context (cultural, communal, and environmental), the act, and the
reason/framework.

Course Objectives
After completing this course, you will be able to:
1. understand the importance of ethics in human relationship and imaginative literature
in its various forms;
2. apply the basic principles in ethics in their day-to-day living; and
3. promote self-consciousness in decision making most especially if it involves others.

Course Requirements
For this course, you will perform a total of 15 activities (all individual activities). These
activities are all in written format. I will not give you any assignments and quizzes.

• Activity 1: Ethical Being


After utilizing the lecture pack 1, you have to write 2 short essays answering
the following questions:

• 1st essay: How does critical reflection help us when we are being
overwhelmed with our life choices and issues?
• 2nd essay: How is it possible for ordinary, average, even good people
become perpetrators of evil?

Your answers can be a few sentences short, but make sure to justify them
properly. There are no right or wrong explanations since they will all come from your
own viewpoint. But that doesn’t mean that you will all have similar grades. I will grade
your activity using the following criteria: organization of thoughts (50%), utilization of
the topic (30%), timeliness (20%). You may refer to the rubric inside the module 1. If
your answer is not in English, I will not accept it. If you have less than 15 Taglish terms,
I will accept it.

• Activity 2: Analytical Being


After utilizing the lecture pack 2, you have to write 2 short essays answering
the following questions:

• 1st essay: How does cognitive dissonance negatively affects the mental and
financial development of future generation?
• 2nd essay: How do we decrease the Dunning-Krueger effect within all of us?

Your answers can be a few sentences short, but make sure to justify them
properly. There are no right or wrong explanations since they will all come from your
own viewpoint. But that doesn’t mean that you will all have similar grades. I will grade
your activity using the following criteria: organization of thoughts (50%), utilization of
the topic (30%), timeliness (20%). You may refer to the rubric inside the module 2. If
your answer is not in English, I will not accept it. If you have less than 15 Taglish terms,
I will accept it.
• Activity 3: Conscious Being
After utilizing the lecture pack 3, you have to write 2 short essays answering
the following questions:

• 1st essay: If people are not identified by name, residence, genes, blood type,
body measurements, and financial status, who are you?
• 2nd essay: If people are similar in all aspect (facial/bodily features, medical,
financial, spiritual, social, and mental), how would you describe “success”,
and would it still be relevant in that society or not?

Your answers can be a few sentences short, but make sure to justify them
properly. There are no right or wrong explanations since they will all come from your
own viewpoint. But that doesn’t mean that you will all have similar grades. I will grade
your activity using the following criteria: organization of thoughts (50%), utilization of
the topic contents (30%), timeliness (20%). You may refer to the rubric inside the
module 3. If your answer is not in English, I will not accept it. If you have less than 15
Taglish terms, I will accept it.

• Activity 4: Subservient Being


After utilizing the lecture pack 4, you have to write 2 short essays answering
the following questions:

• 1st essay: In an extremely strict country, what will be left of humanity if all
actions, intentions, and affections are reduced to instances of subservience
to the will of another claiming to be supreme?
• 2nd essay: Why is the ability to think for oneself is the ultimate expression of
freedom?

Your answers can be a few sentences short, but make sure to justify them
properly. There are no right or wrong explanations since they will all come from your
own viewpoint. But that doesn’t mean that you will all have similar grades. I will grade

• Activity 5: Moral Being

• 1st essay: Do you think that being in a religion or believing in a god is


necessary to build your moral compass?
• 2nd essay: Do you think that religion can be used as a tool of oppression?

own viewpoint. But that doesn’t mean that you will all have similar grades. I will grade

• Activity 6: Social Being
After utilizing the lecture pack 6, you have to write 2 short essays answering
the following questions:

• 1st essay: What are the characteristics of a specific culture or tradition that
you will define as unhealthy for the society?
• 2nd essay: If moral education can be achieved with proper dialogue, why are
misconception, miscommunication, and misinformation still prevalent in our
society wherein there are a lot of social media platforms to use for dialogue?

Your answers can be a few sentences short, but make sure to justify them
properly. There are no right or wrong explanations since they will all come from your
own viewpoint. But that doesn’t mean that you will all have similar grades. I will grade

• Activity 7: Sustainable Being


After utilizing the lecture pack 7, you have to write 2 short essays answering
the following questions:

• 1st essay: In reducing poverty, should we aim for a perfect equality (everyone
has similar income and possession) or equality of opportunity (everyone has
similar qualifications)?
• 2nd essay: How can satellite technology help the Filipino farmers and
fisherfolks? Cite 2 examples.

Your answers can be a few sentences short, but make sure to justify them

• Activity 8: Humane Being

• 1st essay: If you are studying tuberculosis for people within the age group of
20-30 years old, why is unethical to collect phlegm without proper bioethical
permits? Take not that they are of legal age (>18 years old).
• 2nd essay: How do you think designer babies could negatively impact the
general population in the long run?

• 1st essay: Knowing the negatives effects of Mobile Legends for both
female/male and younger/older users in their education and work, why
should the Philippine government allow its continual public distribution?
• 2nd essay: How do you think we can significantly reduce the cases of child
pornography in the Philippines?

• Activity 10: Ecological Being


After utilizing the lecture pack 10, you have to write 2 short essays answering
the following questions:

• 1st essay: Do you think that animals and plants are lower than us? That you
can decide on who to eat or allow to survive? Explain your answer.
• 2nd essay: Nature exist and will continue to flourish without humankind, why
do you think most people believe that we are important?

• Activity 11: Rational Being


After utilizing the lecture pack 11, you have to write 2 short essays answering
the following questions:

• 1st essay: What will be the reason for all cultures, religions, and races around
the world to unite?
• 2nd essay: How advance could we become if we label ourselves as a species
(human) and not by skin color, tradition, religion, financial status, location?

Your answers can be a few sentences short, but make sure to justify them
properly. There are no right or wrong explanations since they will all come from your
own viewpoint. But that doesn’t mean that you will all have similar grades. I will grade
your activity using the following criteria: organization of thoughts (50%), utilization of
the topic (30%), timeliness (20%). You may refer to the rubric inside the module 11. If
your answer is not in English, I will not accept it. If you have less than 15 Taglish terms,
I will accept it.

You will also take two major exams (midterm and final exams) and these are scheduled
on weeks 9 (Nov. 02 – Nov. 06) and 18 (Jan. 22 – Jan 26), respectively. The coverage of the
midterm exam is from Introduction to Ethics to Culture. The coverage of the final exam is from
Economy to Globalization. I will not give you a cover-to-cover examinations.

Course Policies
1. All CvSU students shall sign an honor pledge at the start of the semester as an oath
to their honest commitment and participation in the flexible learning arrangement to be
employed by the university this semester.
2. During online communications in the agreed learning platform, the students shall
observe proper netiquette throughout the process.
3. All questions related to the requirements shall be coursed through the agreed learning
platform only. Replies shall be sent during office hours.
4. All major exams shall be administered as scheduled (based on the university
calendar).
5. Students who will miss a major examination or any class activity may be excused and
shall be allowed to make up for it only when the reason/s are acceptable as assessed
by the instructor.
6. Any form of cheating and dishonesty shall not be tolerated. Once students are found
guilty of such, their chance to earn points or grades for the specific outputs shall be
automatically forfeited.
7. The university’s grading system shall be followed as appropriate for this flexible
learning arrangement.
8. Follow CvSU rules and regulations as stipulated in the student handbook.

I am the faculty-in-charge of this course: Earl Cyril G. Rosaldo. I am a full-time faculty
member of Department of Arts and Sciences of Cavite State University – Carmona. I have
been teaching biological science courses for more than 3 years, and currently in the thesis
