Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric – Phase 4 Measure the levels of

competitiveness of the company

1. Activity Description

Type of Activity: Collaborative

Evaluation Moment: Intermediate Unit 3
Highest Activity Score: 125 points
The activity starts on: Wednesday, The activity ends on: Monday,
November 4, 2020 November 30, 2020
With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcomes:

Design strategies to improve the performance in logistics networks in global

environments applying benchmarking tools.

The activity consists of:

Individuals activities:
Enter the knowledge environment and make a comprehensive review of the contents
of Unit 3, to acquire knowledge necessary for the development of the proposed activity.

Step 1
Each student individually and based on the Logistic Performance Index of the World
Bank, must prepare a comparative table of Colombia vs. A country in Latin America,
one in Central America, one in North America, one in Europe, one in Asia and one in
Africa. (The comparative table should include the results of the years 2007, 2010,
2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018 and the respective analysis of the evolution of the results
presented). Before this, on the collaborative forum, each student mentions which
countries will take for the comparison, so that there are no repetitions.

Step 2
Each student individually must conclude their research, using the LPI background and
general information, graphing and analyzing the previous information using bar graphs
and pie charts.

1
Step 3
Share your research on the collaborative forum.

Collaborative activities:

Step 1
The Course Director schedules a Web conference, in which the methodology for
performing the Benchmarking is explained in detail (completion of the instrument in
order to process data and analyze results).

Step 2
Carry out a Benchmarking study related to competitiveness levels in Supply Chain
Management Integration and Logistics of the Network to which the company belongs,
in such a way that they discover the levels of internal integration, with customers and
suppliers, integration of the planning and technology, integration of relationships; and
also discover the levels of competitiveness in logistics. This input is of vital importance
so that from the knowledge revealed, formulate courses of action to innovate in your
company from the perspective of processes and the organization of it.

The activity has as a scenario a Supply Chain or a Value Network of your company,
which from now on you will denominate VALUE NETWORK OF THE COMPANY
(remember that your company can have multiple Supply Chains or Value Networks).
For which, you must interview at least three executives or more from this company.

The instruments are NOT TO BE APPLIED AS SURVEYS. These are instruments for you
to carry out interviews with the executives of the companies that make up the Network
(Supply Chain).

For each of the best practices, in the company column, rate from 1 to 5, where 1 is
the lowest and 5 is the highest rating. These scores indicate the best practices
applied in the company selected. Reality must be framed on a scale of 1 to 5 points.
The evaluation levels are the following: 1 Absolute weakness. (Very bad). 2 Relative
weakness (Bad). 3 Weakness (Regular). 4. Relative strength (Good). 5 strength
(Very good). In each case the rating is given for the extreme values (1 and 5).

Only personnel who have an adequate vision of the logistics performance of the
companies, such as company executives, executives and specialists working in the
logistics area of the company and executives and specialists from other areas, should

2
participate in the INTERVIEW. They work closely with the logistics area (production,
purchasing, sales, finance, supply chain and logistics).

The INTERVIEWER GROUP must reflect and analyze during the INTERVIEW how the
interviewed people behave, if there is harmony, coherence in the concepts and
appreciations, if they are describing the duty to be or what it really is, if there are
contradictions, etc.

The Microsoft Excel (106 practices) file automatically returns the results like this: a)
the green row is the total result of "Competitiveness in Supply Chain Integration"; b)
the yellow rows correspond to the totals for each competition; c) the blue rows
correspond to the totals of the skills.

Step 3
Process the information, you can use bar graphs, pie charts, infographics, among
others to represent the findings. Once the data have been processed, the level of
integration of the Supply Chain or Value Network will be revealed in the document.
According to the findings, to be competitive in Supply Chain Integration, you need to
have some skills to achieve these competencies; you need to require some skills and
to achieve these skills, you need to apply best practices. The literals a), b) and c) apply
in the same way to be competitive in logistics.

Step 4
Debate between the members of the group about the results, findings, and their
meaning on the collaborative forum.

Step 5
The analysis of the results, as well as a set of strategic proposals, will be reflected in a
report and conclusions.
For the development of the activity consider that:

In the Initial Information Environment, you must compare international

competitiveness reports.

In the Learning Environment, you must review the contents of Unit 4

In the Evaluation Environment, you must participate at academic forum and submit
in the selected space collaborative evidence.

Individual Work Evidences:

3
The individual evidence to be submitted is:

Comparative table of Colombia vs. A country in Latin America, one in Central

America, one in North America, one in Europe, one in Asia and one in Africa.

Collaborative Evidences:
The collaborative evidence to be submitted is:

A report that contains:

• Cover page
• Introduction (you must write at least three paragraphs – firstly, you need to
write about the document’s objective, secondly, you must describe step by step
how was your methodology; and thirdly, you summarize what the reader will
find in the document -if you split the document into several parts or chapters;
please explain what which one contains inside).
• Objectives of the report (general and specifics)
• Development of the activity.
• Comparative tables of each one of the members of the group.
• GAP Analysis of Competitiveness in Supply Chain Integration.
• Strategic proposals in Supply Chin Integration.
• GAP Analysis of Competitiveness in Logistics.
• Strategic proposals in Logistics.
• Conclusions (one for each member of the group; there you need to analyze all
of information obtained and compare it respectively your conclusions and your
specifics objectives’ activity, it is mandatory to conclude in context)
• Bibliography (APA) Standards. You must use in this activity minimum four
references, which must be obtained from the learning environment - Contents
and bibliographical references -Unit 3 - Competitiveness and International

zero “0” score.

2. General Guidelines for the Development of Evidences to Submit

For Collaborative evidence, consider the following:

In collaborative groups, each student will take up a role, he/she will present a thematic
and will discuss with his/her partners the comprehension and identification of the
problem as a response in the moment of planning.

Based on this, students will design a strategy and arrange elements needed for the
construction of the final product.

Equally, they will arrange a synchronic encounter through a web conference to run
each activity.

• The product of this moment will be selected and accepted by the group leader,
also the roles that might be needed. Moreover, sharing the strategy to be used
about the development of suggested work, this is to create participation,
assertive and efficient discussion by everyone of the participants in the

5
corresponding collaborative forum to allow the construction of each one of the
proposed products.
• All members of the group must participate with their contributions in the
development of the activity.

• In each group a single member will be chosen to submit the requested product
in the environment indicated by the teacher.

• Before submitting the requested product, students should check that it meets
all the requirements mentioned in this activity guide.

• Only the members of the group that participated with contributions during the
time assigned for the activity should be included as authors of the submitted
product.

Please keep in mind that all individual or collaborative written products must comply
with the spelling rules and presentation conditions defined in this activity guide.
Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this activity must
comply with APA Format.
In any case, make sure you comply with the rules and avoid academic plagiarism.
You can review your written products using the Turnitin tool found on the virtual
campus.

Under the Academic Code of Conduct, the actions that infringe the academic order,
among others, are the following: paragraph e) "Plagiarism is to present as your own
work all or part of a written report, task or document of invention carried out by
another person. It also implies the use of citations or lack of references, or it
includes citations where there is no match between these and the reference" and
paragraph f) "To reproduce, or copy for profit, educational resources or results of
research products, which have rights reserved for the University ". (Acuerdo 029 -
13 de diciembre de 2013, Artículo 99)

The academic penalties students will face are:

a) In case of academic fraud demonstrated in the academic work or evaluation, the
score obtained will be zero (0.0) without any disciplinary measures being derived.
b) In case of proven plagiarism in academic work of any nature, the score obtained
will be zero (0.0), without any disciplinary measures being derived.
