CHAPTER ONE

1. Introduction

The growth of digital marketing is tremendous and expected to grow more. Every
industry is influenced by the advances of digital marketing, especially Search Engine
Optimization (SEO), Social Media Marketing (SMM) and other sector. Digital
7

marketing is one of the most popular and effective marketing method in this techno
Page

savvy world in terms of cost and customer engagement. For that reason what is digital
marketing & practically I am studying on Digital Marketing. So, I have started my
practical study at my workplace, Nogor Solutions Ltd. under marketing department.
My organizational line manager is Mr. Mustafizur Rahman, IT specialist, Nogor
Solutions Limited has allowed to choose the field in which I am interested. As my
interest and curiosity was in online or digital marketing, I choose to work with a well
known company where I work. Nogor Solutions Ltd. is a 10 years old global based
Enable ICT solutions company.
Due to this Study, I have to learn many aspects of digital marketing including affiliate
marketing, Phone Marketing, Email marketing, content writing, and social media
management. Working in Nogor Solutions Ltd. is proving to be a challenging and
exciting experience for me as I am getting to work in an organization that has just
recently started its Online marketing journey. I feel like I have a larger scope of
contributing and learning here, compared to other already established organizations.
During the period of my internship, I have got chance to learn a lot of new things that
will help me perform efficiently in the corporate world in the future, I also got to
know many people and made a lot of new contacts that might greatly help me in the
future. Communicating with people in social media and managing them is another
great quality that I have earned during my internship in Nogor Solutions Limited. My
responsibility taught me how to take leadership, manage and make real time decisions
in case of urgent situations. Working in the Digital Marketing department, there is not
much opportunity to construct a research based and quantitative report.
Therefore my report is basically theory based and 3 qualitative. Nevertheless I have
put my best effort in creating a constructive report that might serve both my academic
purposes and help the organization as well.
The whole Digital Marketing team of Nogor Solutions Ltd. has been tremendously
helpful in providing me information and insights in this regard from their experience
which has proven to be instrumental in constructing this report.

1.1. Background of this study:

The background of this study is to provide solution on Digital marketing based on an

organization. Digital marketing includes Internet marketing techniques, such as search
engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM) and link building. It also
8

extends to non-Internet channels that provide digital media, such as mobile phones
Page

(both SMS and MMS), callback and on-hold mobile ring tones, social media
marketing, display advertising, e-books, optical disks and games, and any other form
of digital media. According to the Digital Marketing Institute, Digital Marketing is the
use of digital channels to promote or market products and services to consumers and
businesses.
In a place where media messages are ever present, marketers have embedded the
industry into the daily life of society. As the world has continued to change and grow,
so has technology. With the advancements and improvements of technology, the
media industry has evolved and adapted trying to form new strategies in order to
capture its consumers. When the Internet did not exist, marketers relied on television,
newspapers, magazines, flyers, billboards, etc. Print made up a huge portion of the
industry because that was the primary way to reach people. Today, that is no longer
the case. With the invention of the Internet, the growth of the print industry has
declined, thus making marketers turn towards electronic distribution methods. This
new shift has required companies to start implementing and developing digital
marketing strategies. As companies begin researching this new development, they
have noted that “traditional roadside billboards, print advertisements and direct mail
have all suffered, but digital alternatives are starting to become more prevalent, such
as billboards and transport advertisements, and advertisements in digital editions of
print media, such as mobile applications for traditional publications” (Business Wire,
2012). Noticing and understanding these trends helps marketers see where the future
is headed. According to Marketing Weekly News (2012), “Digital marketing remains
a growth area, as marketers shift towards new advertising methods at the expense of
traditional formats.” While understanding the evolution and what’s to come of the
marketing field, it is important for those within the industry to understand the options
available. With that in mind, “A recent report by analyst firm Gartner predicts that
digital strategies like social and mobile marketing will influence at least 80 percent of
the consumers’ discretionary spending by 2015. That being said, it is vital to explore
and identify the three current categories of digital marketing. These include online,
mobile, and social marketing.
This study helps to understand and know how to deal with different kinds of
customers and how to make impressive online campaigns. This report will also try to
illustrate how digital marketing is the most important and effective marketing method
9

for recent time from the context of Nogor Solutions Limited.

1.2. Problem of Statement
Bangladesh is one of the underdeveloped countries in the world. It is so, because of
several reasons. The economy of Bangladesh is more or less a mixed economy. For
this reason various measures have been taken since the post liberation war period.
Every country richer than our country because they are technologically rich. Our main
purpose is trying to a clear layout of digital marketing of happen in our country and
how to more faster and develop this industry. Advertising your brand online takes
time. Companies often aren’t patient enough to devote the time and resources required
to see the results and increasing returns. My best advice on this is to be patient and
positive. A lot of time, this is often done through a trial and error process. If one
approach does not give the results this does not mean the digital campaign strategy
has failed. A great example of this would be a blog post not going viral until a few
months later because the market demand for this may not have been needed at the
time the blog was posted.
Many times, a company will become so enthusiastic with their product they lack in
knowing and understanding their consumer. A great way to understand your audience
is through engagement posts such as surveys. Allowing the user to give his or her
opinion is a great tool to understand your consumer demographic. Consistently posted
content should be done through a similar voice or personality. Many companies fall
short when using digital marketing because they simply do not understand what
platform would best fit their company. This is very common for established
companies who are just now engaging in more aggressive, targeted, digital marketing
campaigns.

dollars on online travel-related purchases in 2019.

1.5.4. 2015 Digital Marketing Trend Report for Bangladesh

2014 is about to end and we have seen social media platforms starting to take off as
Internet penetration increase. When Grameenphone zero-rated Facebook for
Bangladesh, there was a sudden spike of internet usage and number of Facebook
users. The first experience for many people with Internet has been Facebook, so don’t
be surprised when people in the rural area recognize Facebook before the word
Internet. For digital marketers, 2015 will be an important year to reach their target
market faster and cheaper, it’s a time to leverage social media assets with accurate
measurement tools to give better ROI — bang for the buck.
13

Here are some of the trends that we think will make digital marketing important for
Page

every brand in 2015:

1.5.4.1. Smartphone penetration to increase in 2015 — with smartphones
getting cheaper and more accessible, we predict more smartphones in the hands of the
mass population. The trend isn’t just local. Global population of mobile penetration is
predicted to rise from 61.1% to 69.4 according to eMarketer. Companies like
Symphony, Walton and Firefox have made smartphones in the lower end of the market
more accessible unlike brands like Nokia and Samsung who are yet to catch up in that
price range. This means there will be a group of early adopters in the rural
demographic who will be curious to try out the new technology in terms of taking
more photos, listening to music, and perhaps trying out Facebook as internet data
packages are becoming cheaper every day. Their curiosity on Facebook to post photos
and then connect with friends, family or keep up with what their bosses are doing, will
drive more users on Facebook platform via Mobile. Facebook also allow users to
connect with top brands to vent customer experience frustrations and also life
frustrations. So look out for the people using smartphones and majority will be on
android devices (prediction over 50%). This means the audience size will get bigger in
digital marketing.

1.5.4.2. Is Internet Just Facebook to the rural?- Perhaps yes for 2015 as

well, but it will change over time as more content, mobile apps and tech startups
produce more content that individuals can consume. We have seen manuals of “how to
use Facebook” guideline being distributed in rural areas. Internet shopping experience
will also affect their definition of what the Internet is. So let’s not forget that education
is required for the masses of what Internet is and we can predict that brands will focus
budget on that through offline and online activation. If you are going to produce
content and reach mass for education, think of the language — brands will find it more
successful to use Bangla vs English and as well as more video/audio with bangla-
perhaps a bangla jingle on Internet may be successful in raising internet awareness if
you haven’t tried out yet. The point is try something, collect data, see what works and
re-iterate again with tweaks until you find the magic formula.
14

1.5.4.3. Is the Website being replaced by Facebook page? — No it isn’t, but

Facebook is very important to have now. Consumers — the 12 million on Facebook
Page
from Bangladesh search for the business / restaurant or brand to have a quick overview
to know more. Why? Because social media is a conversational platform, consumers
can also read comments and see what others are saying. Website is a one-way street.
So If I were a brand, I would continue to invest in the Facebook page and engagement
as also try out other social media assets like Twitter too. Conversations in real-time can
take place on Facebook real quick which is an opportunity for brands to quickly
address consumer’s needs cheaper and faster than before. Consumers expect quick
replies too, so make sure to have a good customer service response team on Facebook
and other social media platforms to help drives sales and value.

1.5.4.4. Knowing what type of content to post? — 2015 is the year to

experiment and see what type of content works best for your audience on for your
social media strategy. We do face internet speed issues so video’s for mobile will be a
challenge on Edge, but 3G users are getting better experience in certain areas. That
doesn’t mean you don’t go for video. Desktop still dominates Internet usage, but be
smart about the length of the video and quality. Facebook is also promoting video
penetration as more users watch videos on Facebook more globally. So if you have a
“Boost” budget, I would put my dollar on boosting videos! Posts with images will
continue to dominate as well as opinion posts, polls, and contests. Keep in mind
content relevance in terms of what’s happening at that time in terms of trending topic
so have good digital media team that can respond very quick to catch the conversation.
For example the Sundarban Oil spill was talked about in December and being relevant
in terms of what conversation is taking place is important. Key take away- experiment
and see what works best for your audience over a period of time and then set your
strategies for the year.

1.5.4.5. New Social Media Platforms to emerge in local market- Consumers are

prominently experiencing Facebook now because local telecom operators advertise
Facebook heavily on ads, billboards and tv. Businesses in general are also putting
Facebook address, but we do see emergence of other platforms such
as Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. If Brands start taking social media conversations
to other platforms and starts educating consumers, you will see a faster adoption
together. Facebook page and an users newsfeed has a limited real estate space. So it’s
15

smart for all brands to collectively promote the other platforms too. Instagram is a
Page

great way to promote “photo contests” with hash tags. Twitter is a good way to make
announcements on product releases, awareness and drive sales with consumers who
follow throughout the day. It’s quick, short and easy with to connect with audience.
Pinterest is a good resource sharing board. Though many people forget, links and
articles get lost in twitter, facebook and instagram as there are so many updates.
Pinterest is the perfect board where you can pin things so your greatest resources or
content you want to share with your audience doesn’t get lost. Brands can create
“fashion or lifestyle” boards where consumers can follow too.

1.5.4.6. Advertisement cost will rise on Digital Media- As more marketers spend on
digital media platforms, costs will rise. Facebook ad buying has already increased as
there are more people spending today than ever before in Bangladesh. Facebook stores
who sell products, E-Commerce companies and large brands are heavily spending to
increase “fans” and also to drive engagement and sales. It is still the most effective
way to drive sales if done properly, but Facebook ad platform has its limitations for the
time being. We cannot target ads or boost posts by city in Bangladesh, yet which is a
huge problem if targeting ads just for Dhaka city. That’s where ad platforms like G&R
become handy. If you are trying to promote your Facebook page to a particular city,
why not try G&R ad platform with city targeting and drive the ad towards your
Facebook page to have relevant fans. Alternatively if you cannot do that, make content
that is very relevant to your target cities audience or try offline events that Magnito
Digital has done in the past to get local audience to like your page and then target ads
to “Friends of Friends,”

1.5.4.7. Digital media means better accountability- The best part of advertising on

digital media platforms is accountability and scaling. You can measure what you spend
and tweak your spend strategies very quickly and also drive spend to reach more
people very quickly. But don’t get me wrong, ATL will be very important in
Bangladesh and will play a huge role in increasing Internet awareness over the
years; Bikroy has done a fantastic job as well to educate more interest users through
ATL. So don’t stop ATL but tweak your content on your ATL so people learn about
Internet. There are challenges too, digital media platforms change their policy too.
Recently Facebook changed their policy on organic reach on facebook pages. This
16

means brands need to spend more to reach the “fans” they have accumulated over
Page

time.
1.5.4.8. Native Advertising — the new buzzword in the street. Put simply, native
advertising is a way of using content marketing on online publication sites to reach
people. It is beyond what the local Bangladesh market is accustomed to which is
“banner ads,” facebook ads or video promotions but native advertising is a powerful
practice of using content to build trust and engagement with future or current
customers. Examples of native advertisement can be a Brand powering a series of
articles to reach a certain a larger audience and this content is shareable unlike Banner
ads. Consumers can read associate the Brand with the content. Other examples is
mentioning brands by writers or editorial staff, sponsored content about the Brand or
thought leadership pieces. If you are interested in native advertising then get in touch
with SDasia, they are leading the way.

1.5.4.9. Offline — Online integration through Events — Event engagement for

Brands are still big and one of the best ways to create experiences that one can
associate with. Instead of doing concerts that target just music lovers, brands need to
broaden their horizon beyond the typical. Take for example Grameenphone engaging
with entrepreneurs through Innovation Xtreme which was an event for entrepreneurs,
investors and startups. How does it help them? Well in future as tech startups build
relevant content, they will be inclined to get in touch with Grameenphone through the
networking from these events because not only does networking happening, but they
provide information and data that helps entrepreneurs think about he opportunities
more deeply. Engaging multiple target audiences across the country and connecting
them digitally through micro-communities will drive digital engagement to a whole
new level. It’s not selling a sim-card, it’s about selling an experience.

1.5.4.10. Government Digital Bangladesh Drive is promoting Internet —

whether we like it or not, the GOB has been successful of driving the word Digital all
over Bangladesh. How everyone interprets is a different thing, but because of this,
there has been a significant drive in people recognizing digital, the success of
automation in various government bodies, access to information available on the
Internet through the 25,000 websites launched by A2i. ICT ministry is also driving
more app competitions with BASIS and other organizations to promote internet. . This
17

will surely drive Internet penetration as people experience Internet in different ways.
Page

We see the Internet penetration widening with GOB efforts as well. A “Internet Day”
nationally everyday will surely accelerate internet penetration just through awareness
building.

Digital marketing is becoming increasingly important to small businesses of all types.

In the past, marketing online was something that local bricks-and-mortar businesses
could justifiably ignore. It didn't make sense to waste time and money on Digital
marketing when all our business was local.
Now with increasing local search and people's new habit of searching on the Internet
first, it matters. Digital marketing refers to a set of powerful tools and methodologies
used for promoting products and services through internet. Digital marketing includes
a wider range of marketing elements than traditional business marketing due to the
extra channels and marketing mechanisms available on the internet.
The Internet has no “business” hours. It’s open 24/7/365. That gives you the ability to
promote, to engage and, most importantly, to sell around the clock. As mentioned
above, traditional media advertising (like newspaper and television) may cast a wide
net but is limited in scope. Online marketing is also a time and money saver in other
ways.
The proliferation of web-enabled Smartphone has done nothing, but accelerates this
development. It’s no longer even required that you be at a desk to access the internet.
Whether customers are sitting in traffic, jogging in the park or eating at the dinner
table, they have access to company’s website and the online advertising.
Following are few specific contributed to the growth of Digital marketing –
Digital marketing can deliver several benefits such as:
 Growth in potential
 Reduced expenses
 Elegant communication
 Better control
 Improved customer service
 Competitive advantage
Based on the above information’s as well as reports we can understand that the Digital
marketing is very essential.

CHAPTER TWO

2. Literature Review

2.1. What is Digital Marketing?

Digital Marketing refers the marketing through digital medias like internet, TV,
mobile etc. than the traditional media such as newspaper advertisement, billboard,
magazine advertisement etc. Right now, digital marketing is biting the traditional
marketing. It has many ways to market digitally like SEO, Search Engine Marketing
(SEM), content marketing, social media marketing; e-mail marketing, e-commerce
marketing, display advertisement etc. are most popular methods to reach the potential
customers easily.

2.2. History of digital marketing

The term 'digital marketing' was first used in the 1990s. In the 2000s and the 2010s,
digital marketing became more sophisticated as an effective way to create a
relationship with the consumer that has depth and relevance. While the term 'digital
marketing' may not have been used until the 1990s, digital marketing itself has roots
to the mid-1980s when the Soft Ad Group, now Channel Net developed advertising
campaigns for several major automobile companies, wherein people would send in
reader reply cards found in magazines and receive in return floppy disks that
contained multimedia content promoting various cars and offering free test drives.
A growing number of people are now using internet and modern people are very tech-
conscious. According to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory & Commission
(BTRC), almost 80 million people are using internet at the moment in Bangladesh.
Realizing the fact that a handsome number of people are browsing internet every day,
different companies have changed their marketing policies and diverted the attention
towards digital marketing.
Digital marketing is the marketing of products or services using digital technologies,
mainly on the Internet, but also including mobile phones, display advertising, and any
other digital medium. Digital marketing's development since the 1990s and 2000s has
19

changed the way brands and businesses use technology for marketing. As digital
Page

platforms are increasingly incorporated into marketing plans and everyday life, and as
people use digital devices instead of visiting shops, digital marketing campaigns are
becoming more significant and useful.
Digital marketing has been introduced in our country quite a few years back and
people are accepting this form of marketing style. Digital marketing is completely
different from traditional marketing. To define digital marketing in other words, it can
be said that, digital marketing refers to the support for products or brands via one or
more forms of electronic media. It is not only a rapidly growing force in the current
marketing arena, it is expected to be the future of marketing, and it seems likely that
digital media will soon replace more traditional forms altogether. The fact is that
digital methods of communication and marketing strategies are faster, more versatile,
practical and streamlined. Moreover, it is more affordable and customer-oriented than
traditional marketing. The key forms of digital marketing include website
development, SEO, online video content, e-mail marketing, social media marketing,
PPC (Pay-Per Click) advertising, branded & non-branded SMS marketing, banner &
logo design, image post-production and many more things. (Ref: The daily sun)
The rapid evolution of digital media has created new opportunities and avenues for
advertising and marketing. Fueled by the proliferation of devices to access digital
media, this has led to the exponential growth of digital advertising.
In 2012 and 2013 statistics showed digital marketing remained a growing field. Digital
media growth is estimated at 4.5 trillion online ads served annually with digital media
spend at 48% growth in 2010.

2.2.1. Digital marketing

Digital marketing is maintaining the customer relationship for promotional purpose. All
marketing policy’s main purpose is to reach the ultimate customer. Here, the branches of
Digital marketing work virally all over the web and main target is to reach the final
maximum customers. That‘s why people from all over the world welcoming this new
form of marketing and the uses of it are increasing day by day. Digital advertising started
its journey on the year 1990. After that it becomes very popular form in the marketing
era. Bangladesh is also going this roadmap their digital marketing is grown up cause in
2014 to 2015 is huge development in ICT sector. Some people say that digital
20

marketing is any kind of marketing that uses electronic devices. Others say its
Internet-based marketing. (Ref: IGNITE VISIBILITY)

This article answers the question, “What is Digital Marketing.”

It looks at the history of the topic, the main types of digital marketing and more.
Opinions vary, but the Wikipedia definition of what is digital marketing is probably
the best. Definition: “Digital marketing is an umbrella term for the marketing of
products or services using digital technologies, mainly on the Internet, but also
including mobile phones, display advertising, and any other digital medium.”
The overview of digital marketing is given below:

Figure 1: Areas of Digital Marketing

In Bangladesh, because of accessible internet businessmen can start their business

digitally. Especially the use of the social media like Facebook is very high in our
country. It is a positive side for marketers. Besides, Digital marketing creates a new
scope of marketing using other social networking site like LinkedIn, Twitter, and
Viber so on. This new wave has made advertising and marketing closer to people as
people are more used to social media nowadays.

2.2.2. The Digital Marketing Trends in 2020: What is the Future of Marketing?
(Ref: Consultyasser.com)
They have been reading several stories and predications which outline few sexy and
21

attractive marketing technologies and tactics such as voice search, micro-influencers,

Page

automation and of course AI.

Wonderful, but this all just trendy news we have been collecting for years now. We
need to sense the future of marketing and predict upcoming challenges. Living
another day is going to be a battle for marketers since the business environment is
evolving rapidly.
Where we stand now? the majority of marketers are not considered yet about the
future.  According to the most recent figures of 2019, the CMO survey indicated that
the majority of marketing leaders are more focused on managing the present.

2.2.2.1. Marketing is changing… How and Why?

Digital marketing has been evolving during the last 4 years dramatically and some
people are not paying attention. The changes have been coming in different waves for
almost 10 years between 2010 to 2020, and these changes are not going to settle down
easily. It is going to be brutal in the coming years more than any time before. We
have been seeing strong indicators of this major shift in digital marketing, yet we have
been consuming it slowly or resisting it.
However, I did learn a great fact during my years of leading marketing teams and
consulting brands and by speaking to my fellow marketers across different industries
and regions. This fact is straightforward and simple; “Management doesn’t care about
how you the digital marketing executes; it is all about the results”. Any given CMO at
22

any given day is looking at one thing only; how is the performance doing? Don’t get
Page

me started!
2.2.2.1.1. Marketing methodology: What’s going on with marketing?

Dr. Dave Chaffey’s in his latest blog the six big 2020 marketing trends, indicated
several major areas including lifecycle marketing, conservational marketing and
marketing technology. His conclusion that marketing predictions are mainly focused
on technology, platforms and channels. He believes we have been in years of jumping
between trendy channels and tools without having a solid vision or understanding the
strategic objectives of digital marketing.
With the advantages of data and effective tracking of digital marketing, companies
started centralizing the marketing department as the ROI factory. It is becoming
aggressive and marketers are shifting from the creative side to the executions side of
the corporate with more tasks of sales, customer relationship management and
growth.
The complexity of ROI measurements is left to marketers to handle. Gradually, the
marketing role is under the fire of making money with less interest in measuring other
marketing roles such as brand positioning and visibility. Whether we like it or not,
this fact about marketing is going to lead in the future.
We believe in data and performance, but this new role of marketing which is going to
dominate more is showing a huge impact on marketers we have been seeing lately
such as the intolerance from top management which resulted in a high turnover as
they are measuring marketing performance based on ROI mainly.
According to LinkedIn analysis, marketing roles had the highest turnover rate of any
job function—an impressive 17%. That’s more than 50% higher than marketing week,
81% of respondents suggest they are likely to change jobs within 3 years, while 38%
of which will do so by the end of this year.
23
Page
Even CMOs are hardly able to survive more than a year or two. Performance growth,
quick catches, short term plans are more important than long term strategy and
investing in brand value, quality content and creative campaigns. Therefore, everyone
is under the stress and the marketing is shifting towards improving the present ROI
not building a brand that can generate future ROI.  In conclusion, marketing in 2020
and coming years is going to focus on quick wins strategies and the marketing
positions will continue to the highest turnover without a stable ground to flourish.
That’s why I am not considered about sexy trends such as micro-influencers,
interactive emails, conversational marketing, etc. These are great and attractive
methods to implement, but we all know as marketers, that setting up a solid marketing
strategy requires a deeper understanding of the consumer before encountering
channels and setting up technology.

2.2.2.1.2. The change in consumer: Are we ready for Generation Z?

Whether we already or not, marketers in 2020 have to deal with the latest consumer
group, Generation Z. Those are turning 18 and entering the workforce and fueling the
internet consumer are going to be a whole different story.  According to some of the
market estimations, Generation Z will make up 40% of all consumers in 2020. Woho!
What is the impact of this shift? Well, we could have hints about their behavior but
that’s not a clue yet. The reason is simple; You can’t predict the nature of a consumer
group that is shaping and will take time to fully mature and shapes its behavior and
purchasing habits. Eventually, a scary fact about Gen Z that they are quirkiest, with
constant change in their tastes and content consumption. This means that marketers
24

will need to catch up quickly with not only their creativity but also with a solid data
Page

infrastructure to be able to attract this segment.

Gen Z is sensitive to phonies tactics and cheesy styles. Marketers have to shift into
more authentic and original ideas to be able convert. Wink, social media marketing is
going to take a hard turn and the honeymoon years are over. The social media
engagement is going to be revolutionized since Gen Z humor is absurdist and less-
polite. So, if you don’t get their ways of communication, leave the space for younger
marketers who are able to understand.

25
Page
2.2.2.1.3. The change in marketing skills
As we discussed the effect of technology, we have to tie it with data. Eventually,
understanding the demand in the market we had to review in the previous points how
marketing is moving forward in order for marketers to understand the environment
they serve at.
Apparently, all the trends that are rising in the marketing will continue to be affecting
the marketers. I have the habit of regularly checking the job descriptions on LinkedIn
posted by companies from different regions and different industries. There are few
facts that draw my attention which can summarize the change happening in marketing
roles.
Encrypted titles: There are no standard titles for the majority of marketing jobs. For
marketing analyst some companies might call it “Marketing Intelligence Manager” or
26

“Data Analysis Manager”, and several more titles based on the company culture. We
have been into that conflict since years ago when it comes to performance titles as
Page
some people use the term “PPC” and some call it “Paid search” and some call it
“Performance manager” and so on. HR is even borrowing the title “Marketing
consultant” for recruiters who are specialized in marketing hiring. I have no idea why
they are doing this!! It is a big mess when it comes to titles and the more the platforms
and tools we have, the more the titles are diversified. Sometimes it takes a while to
understand a title with encrypted title and strange combination of duties. Startups are
reinventing the titles of marketing and setting new titles that is nonspecific and more
flexible to match their diversified needs.

Broader tasks and specific technologies: The description of marketing jobs is

getting broader in terms of duties but very specific in the required tech skills.
Companies tend to get marketers who fulfill their current needs even if it is a blur and
cross-departmental with less aim for specialization. Some of the roles are fully
customized due to lack of structured marketing department or instability in their
marketing strategy with short-term plans and micromanagement. However, the
companies need at the same time to be a superhero in their platforms and technology.
The vast growth in the number of marketing clouds and tools is making it harder since
every company is looking for candidates who are strong in their tech stack no matter
how uncommon it is. Recruiters and their software who are filtering and scanning
resumes are sometimes incapable of understanding that major automation platforms
are conducting the same functions, and they filter people out because they are only
reviewing based on very specific keywords.

The demand for data jobs: Everyone is hiring data experts in their team since the
data-driven approach is taking over. This trend will continue to rise in 2020 and the
coming few years till eventually, things will change. My prediction that this trend will
decrease at some point for two reasons. First, the future marketers would adopt data
skills and it will become an essential skill the same as any admin or management
skills the marketer has to acquire to proceed with his career. This already did happen
before when the traditional offline marketers had to learn digital marketing to survive.
The same scenario will happen with data analytic skills. It is going to be a must.
Second, with the increasing competition business will understand that data is telling
27

what is happening and why it is happening? but the missing part will be what we need
to make it happen? I expect in the coming years, creativity jobs will return to rising
Page
and take over the top trend of skills demand. We can see a quick hint for that
happening already in the below stats. According to Altimeter report of 2019, Data
Analysis is considered the highest demand for marketing skills, however, there is a
huge rise for skills in video editing and production. This fact outlines how creative
skill such as video production is becoming one of the major needs for the marketing
industry.

While the marketing trends in 2020 are going to bring some heads-up of hot new
channels and interesting tactics we need to adopt, there are many crucial facts is
happening in the background and we need to dig deeper in order to be prepared. The
business environment and technology are going to reshape the industry as well as
marketing skills. If you have a further opinion, please share so we can enhance this
discussion.

2.2.3. Situation of digital marketing in Bangladesh

Growth of internet users must be credited for the growth of Digital marketing. With
the advent of internet technology number of internet user is increasing at the greater
extent across the world. Bangladesh stands at Ninth place with 96 million internet
users in 2019. (www.internetwoldstats.com).
28

Technology has made the world a global village. Like population Internet users are
also growing in Bangladesh rapidly. According to Bangladesh Business News there
are 96 million people users internet in Bangladesh. Here is a statistics shows the fast

We can see in Figure 2, compared to the other developing countries the growth of
internet is very high in Bangladesh which is a positive scenario towards the
development. It makes the country technologically more advanced. Here is a graph
shows how much is the growth of Internet in Bangladesh.

2.2.4. Types of Digital Marketing

As we’ve seen, the concept of digital marketing encompasses a variety of specific

marketing strategies. It’s important to distinguish between all of them.
Here’s a list of the various types of digital marketing and a brief description of how
they’re used today. (Ref: IGNITE VISIBILITY)

2.2.4.1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

It’s often the case that when people want to learn more about a particular subject or
buy something, they begin with an online search. That reality is gold for a lot of
marketers. Why? Because if they can put their brand at the top of the search engine
results pages (SERPs), they can pick up some additional business.
Of course, it’s not often the case that websites appear at the beginning of the search
results by accident. It’s usually the result of a very careful (and sometimes expensive)
effort. That effort is called search engine optimization (SEO). It’s a way that digital
strategists “convince” the search engines that their websites should rank high for one
or more search terms:
Like digital marketing, SEO is multi-faceted. There are numerous ways to optimize a
30

site for the search engines.

Page
Fortunately, Google has informed us about the three most important ranking factors.
They are:
 Backlinks – links on other websites pointing back to the optimized site
 Content – easy-to-read articles that offers value to the visitor
 RankBrain – Google’s AI algorithm
If we want to optimize our own site, we can’t do a whole lot about Rank Brain. But
we can start a campaign to add backlinks to our site and produce quality content. One
of the best ways to add backlinks to our site is with guest-posting. Just reach out to
non-competing bloggers and ask if we can post content on their site that’s of value to
their readers. Somewhere in that content, include the link to your own site. Also, add
a blog to our own site and produce content that’s of interest to people in our target
market. We should also practice on-site SEO. That means we take steps to ensure that
the content and structure of our site is friendly to search engines.

2.2.4.2. Search Engine Marketing

Search engine marketing (SEM) is different than SEO. The unpaid listings are often
referred to as “organic” results. That’s because they appeared there naturally. Paid
listings, on the other hand, appear in the SERPs because you paid money to place
them there. The good news about paid listings is that they’re at the top of the search
results. So if we’re looking for a short-cut to get our site to the very top of the SERPs,
then we should consider SEM.
How much does SEM cost? That depends.
Usually, we’ll run an SEM campaign by requesting that a search engine lists your site
when people search for one or more keywords. How much your campaign will cost
depends on the competitive nature of those keywords.
For example, right now the suggested bid for “blue jeans” is $4.82. That means if we
want to display your site in the SERPs when people search for “blue jeans,” it will
cost you $4.82 every time one of those people clicks on our link.
The downside to SEM isn’t just the cost, though. SEM listings usually appear in
designated spaces in the search results, so people often tune them out in favor of the
organic (or more “authentic”) results.
Still, many brands to this day are using SEM to promote their products and services.
31

They clearly view it as a value.

Page
2.2.4.3. Content Marketing
As we’ve seen, Google says that content is one of the top three ranking factors. That’s
why digital marketers are so gung-ho about content marketing. In a nutshell, content
marketing is about producing quality content on a blog that’s designed for people in
your target market. Then, when those people search for a term related to your
industry, they’ll stumble across your awesome article and learn more about your
brand.
Unsurprisingly, some of the people who are best at using content marketing to
promote their brand are digital marketers themselves. Just use Google to search for
the phrase “content marketing” right now. The results list on the first page will show
you a bunch of websites that are all about digital marketing.
Our company Ignite Visibility does a lot of content marketing. That is why we blog
often here and on sites like Entrepreneur.
Many marketers begin their content marketing efforts with keyword research. The
idea behind keyword research is to find keywords that are 1) relevant to people in a
target market and 2) not difficult to rank for.
If we’re interested in keyword research, it’s a good idea to enlist the aid of a tool
like SEMRush. We’ll have to pay a monthly fee, but we’ll get some great insight
about keywords in our niche that are ripe for the picking.

2.2.4.4. Social Media Marketing

Another great way to promote our brand is with social media marketing (SMM). One
of the best advantages of social media marketing is that it’s free. Sure, we can run ads
on various social media channels, but we’ll cover that in the next section. Our goal
when it comes to SMM can be summed up in one word: engagement. When people
comment on your post, share it, or “like” it, you’re getting a response from people in
your target market. That response helps you build trust with those folks. More than
that, though, engagement helps you promote your business. That’s because some of
the social media sites (like Facebook) will use engagement to determine the
“popularity” of a post. Very popular posts, as you might have noticed, tend to get
pushed to the top of people’s feeds and get even more exposure. That’s why you
should post content on social media that helps your followers. Do that instead of just
32

posting sales pitches and you’ll go a long way in earning people’s respect. Of course,
Page

it’s also important to pick the right social media channels for your brand.
For example, if you’re running a company that relies heavily on visuals for promotion
(a fashion company, as an example), then you should be active on image-centric
social media channels like Instagram and Pinterest.
On the other hand, if you’re running a B2B company, then LinkedIn is our sweet spot.

2.2.4.5. Pay-Per-Click Advertising

We’ve already discussed one form of pay-per-click advertising: SEM. But that’s not
the only option out there. In fact you can run ads through a variety of ad networks and
even on social media channels. Although online ads offer a great way to drive traffic
to your site, be sure to check with your accountant to make sure the ROI is worth it.
Otherwise, we could go in the hole while drawing an audience. Social media sites
offer some of the best bang for our buck when it comes to advertising because you
can run a campaign to an audience that’s likely to be part of our target market. Just
select who sees our ad based on demographics and interests and let it run. Some ad
networks also let we run native ads. It’s best to look at sites that run native ads so we
can get an idea of what types of ads are most effective.
Of course, we can also run banner ads on websites as well. Just be sure to limit our
advertising only to those sites most frequently visited by people in our market.

2.2.4.6. Affiliate Marketing

Did we know that we can make money by selling products without even carrying an
inventory? We can, with affiliate marketing. Some companies let us advertise their
products on our website. If one of our visitors buys a product, we get a commission.
It’s that simple. Of course, we have to get approved to become an affiliate marketer.
Some brands don’t want to be affiliated with certain types of websites (for obvious
reasons). Approval is usually pretty easy, though. We fill out an online application,
submit our tax information, and wait for the response. Once we’re approved, we can
start listing that company’s products on our website and reap the rewards of our sales.
One of the most popular affiliate programs is Amazon Associates. Yes, we can make
money selling pretty much anything that Amazon sells. In other words: we can make
money selling anything. If we don’t want to be tied down to just one company,
33

though, we can head over to Commission Junction and find countless online e-tailers
Page
participating in affiliate programs. Select a few that is relevant to our niche and
advertise their products on our website.

2.2.4.7. Email Marketing

Many professional marketers consider email marketing to be one of the most effective
aspects of online marketing. Why? Because it’s more of a “push” marketing strategy.
We’re communicating with individuals directly on a platform they check almost every
day: their email inbox. The most important point to remember about email marketing,
though, is that we should always secure permission from people before adding them
to our email distribution list. Otherwise, we’re just a spammer and will likely find that
we do our brand more harm than good. So how do we get permission to send people
an email on a regular basis? Most marketers accomplish that with the use of a carrot:
they offer something free in exchange for the email address. For example, if we’re
marketing a line of beauty products, we could offer an e-book that’s packed with
makeup tips and tricks. Tell people that we’ll happily send the e-book URL to their
inbox in exchange for their email address.
Once they supply the email address, we can add them to your distribution list. Just be
sure to let them know at some point during the transaction that they’ll be added to the
list and receive periodic emails. Use email distributions lists to promote our business
as we see fit. Provide links to great content that we’ve created on our site, announce
special offers, and tell people about new products in our product line.

2.2.5. The 4 Ps of digital marketing strategy

2.2.5.1. Definition of 4P’s of Marketing

The 4Ps of marketing represent the strategies which an organization uses to promote
its brand or product in the market. In a layman’s language, the 4Ps of marketing
means building the product as per the demand of the customer which fulfills
customer’s request and is easily available to the customer at the right price.
Embellishing these 4Ps:

2.2.5.1.1. Product

Product determines the service or item which is up for selling for the buyers. A
34

product can either be a physical item or a service. Example: Software, Website,

Page

Mobile Apps.
2.2.5.1.2. Price

Price explains the value of the product. The buyer pays a price to the seller in
exchange for the product or service used. Normally, the price or the value of the
product depends on a variety of internal and external factors.

2.2.5.1.3. Place
Place indicates a distribution pipeline of sales for the product. Place implies – making
the product available easily to potential buyers. The success of the product majorly
depends on the right placement of the product.

2.2.5.1.4. Promotion

Usually, promotion involves any activity or action taken in order to sell or advertise
the product. The activities like advertising, events, customer incentive schemes,
marketing are all included in the promotion of the product. Example: Search engine
optimization, Paid traffic, Social media marketing, Content marketing, Email
marketing.

CHAPTER THREE

3. Types of Research Method

3.1. Quantitative Research:
Quantitative research is “explaining phenomena by collecting numerical data that are
analyzed using mathematically based methods (in particular statistics).
Sources of Quantitative Data
The most common sources of quantitative data include:
Surveys, whether conducted online, by phone or in person. These rely on the same
questions being asked in the same way to a large number of people;
Observations, which may either involve counting the number of times that a
particular phenomenon occurs, such as how often a particular word is used in
interviews, or coding observational data to translate it into numbers; and
Secondary data, such as company accounts.

3.2. Qualitative Research:

Seeks to answer questions about why and how people behave in the way that they do.
It provides in-depth information about human behavior.

Sources of Qualitative Data

Although qualitative data is much more general than quantitative, there are still a
number of common techniques for gathering it. These include:
49

Interviews, which may be structured, semi-structured or unstructured;

Page

Focus groups, which involve multiple participants discussing an issue;

Postcards’ or small-scale written questionnaires that ask, for example, three or four
focused questions of participants but allow them space to write in their own words;
Secondary data, including diaries, written accounts of past events, and company
reports; and
Observations, which may be on site, or under ‘laboratory conditions’, for example,
where participants are asked to role-play a situation to show what they might do.
From the above discussion my study on Digital marketing solutions is a qualitative
research.

3.3. Data Collection

As data is the vital part of the study and to make it more meaningful, it was collected
from both primary and secondary sources.
 The primary data is collected or observed directly from first-hand experience
through interviewing individuals and surveying different companies.
 The secondary data are those which have already collected by someone else
and wish to pass through the statistical process.

3.1. Sources of Data:

Sources of data are given below:
3.1.1. Primary Sources

I collected primary data by using following methods:

3.1.1.1. Interview Method

The interview was a face to face situation where I asked particular questions to
individuals who were employee of an organization, owner of an organization and
regular clients of software business. The questions were designed in such a way where
answers would be relevant to the research.
 Face to face conversation with respective IT specialist of the firms
 Internal data of the organization
 Direct conversation with the client
50

3.1.2. Secondary Sources:

Page

 Annual report
 Different journals regarding software and IT industry in Bangladesh
 Internet was also used as theoretical source of information

In our country, the internet connection cost is so high comparing other countries. It is
another barrier to create online marketing as well as internet speed is also so low.

CHAPTER FIVE

5. Recommendation

To reduce cost and convenient as well as adding more value-added service, the
companies of this country should take proper responsibilities. Some recommendations
are given below:
 Providing proper training about how to use the digital marketing system.
 The Govt. of the Republic of Bangladesh has to take responsibilities to
develop more digital Marketing related companies.
 Organizations need to have more preparation for using the Digital Marketing
System.

with updated tools.
 Digital Marketing communications which are intended to be forwarded by

computer and other factors.
 Concentrate on research and development on Digital Marketing practices in
Bangladesh.

5.2. Conclusion

Considering the low cost, specific targeting, more engagement, etc. is the best way of
practicing Digital Marketing in Bangladesh. It increases the interaction with
customers. To reach the foreign clients or customers, it is the only perfect way to
communicate but one important thing is that only easy marketing policy is not enough
for success in companies in Bangladesh. They have to provide quality product or
service, considering competitive price as well as timely delivery.
Besides creating awareness about digital e-marketing among the Bangladeshi
exporters is essential. They should create an association to play a significant role at
the outside of Bangladesh. Technology, as well as infrastructural constraints, can be
overcome by accepting the existing laws and regulations or by creating new rules if
needed. 55
