Episode 1:

Every aspiring health worker has a story behind why they choose to be in that profession. I
was inspired on what doctor Bo Yung-Ju advice to the kid when he got mad at the hospital. He said,
“If you really want a revenge, become a better man to those people. Pay them back with your
capability rather than your rage. Unless you change nothing will change.” With that statement, the
kid study well and made himself a doctor. In this episode, I already observed a lot of ethical and
unethical practices together with the virtues they are showing.

 1st scenario- It’s true that distributive justice is not seen when the kid asked the doctor to
look after his father. What they did was to treat the senator 1 st resulting the death of his
father. That’s why we cannot blame why he felt that way.
 2nd scenario- I appreciate the courage of every health worker when they gave extra care to
the man with abdominal penetrating injury. Among the patients in the ER, he’s the one who
needs immediate care. Because the doctor from O.R cannot make it as soon as possible to
the ER, the resident immediately plan an action in order to save the patient’s life. And
prudence is the virtue present in her.
 3rd scenario- But let’s not forget about this scene. Indeed that history repeats itself. The
intern remembered his past when a girl asked him to look after her mother who came 1 st
before the construction workers. Humility, prudence, and compassion were seen to the
intern. That’s why on the later part of the scene 2, he came late to observe what the resident
is doing with the patient with a meter long rebar.
 4th scenario- While the residents are eating and celebrating for the success of the operation,
one of the consultants got mad at them because they neglected the patient who came 1 st
with pneumonia. Sadly, utilitarianism is not observed in it. And so, the temper of the
resident got high causing her to punish the intern which is unethical. Yes, they both did a
great job but they should consider their work place and workmates because it will affect
their way of communicating and giving care.
 5th scenario- Once again, courage is tested in this scene. This is where the resident have to
decide whether she will save the patient by using an ECMO or just let him loose his pulse. I
think this event always takes place in the medical field. Ara, her friend, said that this would
be a malpractice, but she ignored it and chose to be courageous on her decision to do the
procedure even if she will be the one who will take the blame if something happens to the
patient. For me, as long as someone is supporting your decision, (like the intern) make the
best out of it. Good thing she saved the patient from dying. What I don’t like seeing is when
a doctor with a higher position is mistreating a co-worker who is lower than him. It’s fine if
they will give her a disciplinary action but it’s unethical seeing him hurting her physically.
Always remember that practicing virtues is not only for patients but also for everybody
surrounding you.
 6th scenario- This was tackled a while ago in the virtual class. Where in is it ethical to date
someone who is your patient or colleague or unethical. In the episode, in my own point of
view, it’s fine that two doctors have an intimate relationship with each other as long as it’s
not affecting their job. I’ve seen couples like them in MJH and I observe that they both act
professionally. What is unethical is when two health workers have relationship with each
other and the other one is seeing another girl who works in the same field. I believe that
workers on the same department will feel awkward and uncomfortable seeing that
happened considering they are working collaboratively.

Episode 2:

In this episode, after the Dr. got into an accident, she suddenly disappeared and found
herself unconscious in the forest. She was saved by a doctor who turn out to be Dr. Bo Yung-Jo aka
Teacher Kim and told her that it will take years to heal her fractured hand in the right. After 5 years,
in Geosan Hospital, Dr. Kang Dong-Ju finally got into the surgery team. And here we are going to
start observing ethical and unethical issues per scenario.

 1st scenario- Dr. Kang Dong-Jo can’t help himself to think about the situation he got into. He
is about to have a competition with Dr. Do In-Beom who is a son of the President in the
hospital. He said. “Your background and connections are what matters most.” Even in
hospitals where everything’s a matter of life and death, things aren’t different. There is
discrimination everywhere. People with higher position will do everything just to put
others down in order for them to be the best and have the power to control them.
 2nd scenario- Since Dr. Kang Dong-Jo is trying to prove something, he accepted the challenge
to operate one of the VIP patient knowing that the successful rate of that procedure is just
30%. When committing to a certain operation, you have to evaluate your capabilities and
limitations. 1st of all, the life of the patient is in your hand. So what Dr. Kang Dong-Jo needed
the most is humility and prayerfulness. Seek God’s help in everything you do, not trying to
prove something to the President of the hospital.
 3rd scenario- If only I was there and 1 st time to meet and watch Teacher Kim operate in a
normal room, I would feel the same what Dr. Kang Dong-Jo felt. So many questions are
popping in my mind because of what he did. It’s right that patient should be operated in the
OR because the patient may get infected. He should have consider the safety of the patient. I
appreciate the honesty of Teacher Kim about his thoughts on the code of ethics he’s
violating. But as a professional individual, not everything you want must be followed.
Always stick on what you have sworn.

Only 3 scenarios got my attention but it made me realized one thing. That no matter how small
your hospital is, as long as you have competent health workers, it will surely be a success. People
don’t base on how big or small the hospital, it’s on the performance and compassion they give.
Nurses and doctors are resourceful and creative. Everything is possible if they work hand in hand.
