So, there are a lot of benefits of lean production to a business and its stakeholders.
Waste is analyzed in terms of the time, money and amount of resources used in production.
The reduction of those elements isintended to increase productivity and efficiency. It will
also help to reduce the impacts on the environment by using fewer materials and reduce
wasted time in dealing with poor quality products.
Reducing product defects, for example, will reduce costs by saving on the inputs used for
making goods. Lean manufacturing focuses on reducing the capital used in the process.
Therefore, development will strive to make the most effective use of space ,
equipment, energy , materials and, crucially, to be in the shortest possible time.
Nestle 18 Image 4Nestlé Waters uses lean production techniques to bring efficiency and
quality benefits other than gains. It also aims to create benefits for society and the
community.External benefits are the ones provided by the societies Nestlé works in.
For example, a butterfly planting scheme was conceived at the Waterswallows site in Buxton.
Nestlé Waters worked with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust and the local Butterfly Conservation
Group to plant wild flowers in the factory grounds to attract butterflies back to the area.As
part of Nestlé Waters' Building Common Value, it has partnered with the local community on
initiatives like its on-the-go recycling system and WET project. The WET project is an
educational school initiative that helps teachers and children learn about the important role th
at water plays in our lives.
Another advantage is work, not only directly at the site but as a result of the development of
the new site. When Nestlé Waters built the new factory, most of its materials and labor came
from within 50 mile of the site. This had a positive impact on the local economy while
reducing the amount of transport needed for the materials, reducing the carbon footprint of
the site. The new factory has also expanded the number of apprenticeships Nestlé can offer
and graduate positions. While the old site has been using agency and temporary workers, the
new site employs more than 100 full-time staff from the local workforce.
Nestlé Waters' focus on the new site's environmental impacts goes much further than those
previously mentioned. There is a sustainable system of urban drainage that manages the rain
water which runs off the site. An innovative heat recovery system was conceived to reduce
waste and environmental impact. This system carries heat from the bottling lines to the
warehouse and offices, further reducing the site 's total energy output. Classic Derbyshire dry
stone walls have restored field patterns and established site boundaries, ensuring that they are
aligned with surrounding areas using sustainable construction practices.
