Salient Check-Out Procedure Checklist

1 SCOPE
This checklist is applicable to both single and dual Salient Contrast Injectors and should be used to
confirm correct function / performance following new injector installations, completion of the annual
preventive maintenance or post service interventions.

2 EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
1) Pressure Gauge & Valve Assembly (Omega Digital Pressure Gauge STI PG-5000 & Parker
Restriction Valve F200B or Medrad # 89301-01-AM-02)
2) 200mL Measuring Cylinder
3) 2 x Salient Syringe
4) Electrical Safety Test Box
5) Laptop with I³ Service Software installed and USB Cable

3 CHECKLIST
Before starting this Check-Out Procedure, connect your laptop to
the USB port on the base board and start the I³ Service Software.

Click on Save Salient Report to download system data for your

records and email the file to salient@imaxeon.com

On completion of this Check-Out Procedure, reconnect your

laptop.

Click on Clear Efficacy Counts to reset the annual service

reminder message for another 12 months.

Once cleared, the Efficacy screen shown here will display when
next powered on. If this will cause confusion, complete an injection
and the Efficacy screen will then display only as a service reminder message.

3.1 General Visual Inspection

Inspection Pass/Fail
1) Castors roll freely and locking mechanisms engage.
2) Inspect power cord and connectors for damage.
3) Ensure head pivots are secure and move with some resistance to rotation.
4) Inspect / replace (recommended) the batteries
5) Inspect head enclosure for signs of damage and potential for contrast
ingress.
6) Inspect the touch screen for signs of damage.

3.2 Functional Checks

Test Pass/Fail
1) Touch screen test draw
From the Service menu, press the button marked . A blank
screen is shown. Draw on the screen with your finger and verify that a line is
drawn corresponding to the centre of your finger touch.
2) Heat maintainer operation
Plug in the heat maintainer (when supplied) and verify that it becomes warm
to the touch and that the warning light moulded into the body of the heat
maintainer does not light up indicating a fault condition.
3) Battery and line power switching
With the Salient switched off at the head, plug a power lead into the base and
attach to mains supply.
Ensure that the power switch at the base is in the on (I) position, and that the
LED charging lamp on the base is on (indicating 24V is present).
Turn on the head.
Ensure that the mains power icon is displayed.
Switch off the mains and disconnect the power lead. Ensure that the battery
icon is now displayed.

3.3 Performance Verification

3.3.1 Delivered Volume and Flow Rate Accuracy

1) Install a new syringe on the contrast side and fill with water.
2) Attach the pressure gauge assembly to the syringe.
3) Purge all air from the syringe and pressure gauge assembly.
4) Enter the following parameters:
Flow rate = 5ml/s, Volume = 100ml, Pressure = 100psi
5) If available, connect a small diameter tube as shown to the outlet of the restriction valve. This will
improve measurement accuracy.
6) Purge the syringe through the tube until 120ml remains (as displayed on the screen). This will also
ensure the tube is fully primed with water.

7) ARM the injector and tilt the head to the down position.
8) Hold the tube directly over the measuring cylinder so that all water expelled will be collected and
measured accurately.
9) Partially close the restriction valve.
10) Press the inject switch on the screen or the remote control to start the injection.
11) While monitoring the indicated pressure on the pressure gauge, adjust the restriction valve to
achieve a pressure of approximately 100 to 150psi.
The following conditions shall be met:

The amount of water collected in the measuring cylinder 100ml ± 2ml.

The delivered volume displayed on the screen 100ml ± 2ml
The Duration time displayed on the screen 20 ± 0.5s
The calculated pressure displayed on the screen during the injection ± 50psi of the pressure
shall be within gauge

12) Repeat steps 1 to 11 on the Saline side.

Test Result
1) Contrast Delivered volume measured (100ml ± 2ml.)
2) Contrast Delivered volume displayed (100ml ± 2ml.)
3) Contrast Duration displayed (20 ± 0.5s)
4) Contrast Pressure accuracy (± 50psi of the pressure gauge)
5) Saline Delivered volume measured (100ml ± 2ml.)
6) Saline Delivered volume displayed (100ml ± 2ml.)
7) Saline Duration displayed (20 ± 0.5s)
8) Saline Pressure accuracy (± 50psi of the pressure gauge)

3.3.2 Over Pressure & Flow Reduced Function

Test Result
1) Contrast Pressure Alarm
Refill the contrast syringe with water and purge all air.
Enter the following parameters.
Flow Rate = 5ml/s, Volume = 100ml, Pressure = 100psi
Adjust the variable restrictor to a near closed position, which will cause the
injector to reach an over pressure state (simulating a blocked line).
ARM and INJECT
Injector should stop with an over pressure alarm
2) Contrast Pressure Limiting
Open the variable restrictor.
ARM and INJECT
During the injection, adjust the variable restrictor carefully to force the injector
into pressure limiting or flow reduced mode at a pressure of 85psi. This can
be identified by the LEDs flashing orange as the injection progresses
3) Saline Pressure Alarm
Refill the saline syringe with water and purge all air.
Enter the following parameters.
Flow Rate = 5ml/s, Volume = 100ml, Pressure = 100psi
Adjust the variable restrictor to a near closed position, which will cause the
injector to reach an over pressure state (simulating a blocked line)
ARM and INJECT
Injector should stop with an over pressure alarm
4) Saline Pressure Limiting
Open the variable restrictor
ARM and INJECT
During the injection, adjust the variable restrictor carefully to force the injector
into pressure limiting or flow reduced mode at a pressure of 85psi. This can
be identified by the LEDs flashing orange as the injection progresses

3.3.2 Plunger Sensor and Zero Position

Test Result

Salient Check-Out Procedure Checklist
Test Result
Retract the pusher on the contrast side
Install a new syringe with the fill screen displayed
Injector should detect the new syringe and automatically purge all air. This
confirms correct plunger sensor setup
When fully purged, check plunger seal is not compressed or short of the 0ml or
end position of the syringe barrel. This confirms correct zero position
Now press the retract button
The pusher should disengage from the syringe plunger and fully retract
Retract the piston on the saline side
