This British Standard has been prepared under the direction of the General
Mechanical Engineering Standards Policy Committee and is the English
language version of EN 28839:1991 “ Mechanical properties of fasteners — Bolts,
screws, studs and nuts made of non-ferrous metals ”, published by the European
Committee for Standardization (CEN). It is identical with ISO 8839:1986,
published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
EN 28839:1991 was produced as a result of international discussion in which the
UK took an active part.
A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a
contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application.
Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity
from legal obligations.

Following the positive result of the P.Q., CEN/BT 1 Scope and field of application 3

6 Test methods For testing the stress at permanent set limit, Rp0,2,
and the percentage elongation after fracture,
6.1 Tensile test applicable to bolts, screws and
machined test pieces shall be used and the test shall
studs
be carried out as specified in ISO 898-1.
In general for tensile testing, a full size bolt, screw
or stud shall be used and the test shall be carried out
as specified in ISO 898-1. For minimum breaking
loads, see Table 4.
