teams during his career and scored 171 goals.
In June 1974, Ferguson got his first job as a manager
at East Stirlingshire. It was a part-time job and he was
paid 40 pounds a week. He was a strong leader from
the beginning. He soon moved to bigger teams, until he
became the manager for the Scottish national team in
1985. But this only lasted a year, because Manchester
United wanted him for a manager and that was a job he
couldn’t refuse.
During the late 1980s Ferguson improved the
Manchester United team, but it wasn’t until the 1990s
when Ferguson managed to get a great team together.
In 1993 Ferguson ended United’s 26-year wait for a
title, by helping them become champions. This was
only the beginning and 38 trophies later he decided to score 8
retire. These days it is common for soccer teams to
change managers regularly, as soon as they start
losing a few games. For Alex Ferguson to have such a
long and successful career with one team was
something pretty incredible.
