CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND IT’S BACKGROUND

The Continuous use of drugs despite the negative effects it may

cause to a person’s cognitive e and action is called substance use

disorder. Alcohol, Nicotine, Marijuana, Tobacco, and Cocaine are

substances that we consider as drugs. This drugs may cause malfunction

in human brain that leads to an incapability of controlling. It use on legal

or illegal drug or medication. (National Institute on Drug Abuse). In the

Philippines one of the most common problem is the illegal use of drug. In

a survey of 6.7 million drug abusers in the world, 20,000 of it are Filipinos.

This large population of drug abusers in the Philippines was due to

corruption and poor law enforcement. (Alcohol Rehab).

But the researchers believed that the person caged from drug

addiction is still able to undergone life changes and spiritual

transformation. Derbyshire (2014) explained that spiritual change may

include; improvement in behaviour where the person will show positive

response in action, repentance and regret towards his/her wrong doings,

changed in attitude where that person sees himself/herself as a new one

form being such bad person, a new relationship with God towards

commitment in church ministry and acceptance in salvation to who he/she

believe in, A confident view of the future where that person envisions

his/her bright future, and lastly a desire to reach others and willingness to

share the life he/she had before. In this research, you will encounter

undeniable inspiring stories of individuals who was one caged in addiction

because of certain reason behind the back of their lives but found hope to

continue and be a faithful leader in God's Ministry. "God set me free for a

reason, i repented right there where who called me," Rene Martinez said.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This Phenomenological study generally aim's to explore the lived

experience of church Ministers who was once addicted on drugs.

Specifically this study shall seek answer to the following questions:

1. What are the lived experiences of church ministers who was once a

drug user?

2. What perception can be drawn from their lived experiences?

3.What are the results these perception?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The Research of phenomenological study: Narcotic dependence to

ministerial involvement. Can enhance the knowledge of our world. This

study is intended to exhibit and clarify the lived experience of people who

was involved in drug. This outcomes of the problem gives benefit to the

following:

For the Students, to give deeper understanding regarding the

experience of people who was involved in drug.

For the Government, to provide a proven summary about the lived

experience of people who was once involve in drug abuse.

For the Future Researcher, This study may help them in doing such

research related to lived experience of people who was involve in drug.
