CHAPTER 1

Introduction
Water and oil are used as the primary substances utilized upon conducting this
experiment which shows an immiscibility of substances due to its components, the water
and oil, since both substances does not combine to each other because of their resulting
attraction when combining.
This study presents the experimentation of lava lamp in which it attains the
desired quantity of density and polarity with water and oil. It is immiscible due to its
incapability of attaining the homogeneity of both substances. Lava lamp represents an
accurate example of this study.
Objectives
 To be able to identify what causes the experiment to not be able to
combine to each other.
 To be able to determine the possible results of this certain experiment.
Significance of the Study
The aspects of this experimental study
Publication – The experiment uses scientific publication to give contribution to the
general body of knowledge.
Patent – The experiment can be utilized as the basis for the future innovation
Product – The product of the experiment can be analyzed for the certain institutions that
also conduct experiments similar to this study.
People Services –
Places and Partnerships – This experiment can be utilized by the people who are into
the field similar to this wherein the following results may contribute for the future
experiments and research to be conducted.
Policies – This study follows a science-based policies wherein the form of congressional
laws, executive and administrative orders, policy guidelines for government agencies and
LGU’s are institutionalized.
Scope and Delimitation
This study is conducted within the premise of this institution, Davao Doctors
College, Inc. The researchers utilized Berroca tablet, cooking oil, and water as its primary
instruments upon conducting this experiment. To analyze the density and polarity of
those substances, the results are gathered within the day. The experiment delimits only
with the use of Berroca tablet, cooking oil, and water to identify the reaction of Berroca
to the water and cooking oil.

Methodology
Materials
These are the following materials that were utilized upon conducting the study.
Berroca tablet

Water

Cooking oil
Food coloring

1L bottle

Methods
Upon conducting the experiment, these were the following procedures applied to
attain the desired experiment.

The materials were first gathered before

conducting the experiment.

500mL of water were applied and 1

tablespoon of food coloring were mixed
into it.
350mL of cooking oil were combined into
the water with the food coloring.

A Berroca tablet was dropped inside the

1L bottle to create reaction between the
tablet, water, and cooking oil.
