RIP Protocol
ACADEMIC UNIT: F.C.B.I
COURSE: Telecommunications II
LAB ASSIGNMENT Nº 7: RIP protocol
1. OBJECTIVES
1.1 Learn how to enable the RIP protocol for dynamic routing in Cisco Routers.
1.2 Learn how to verify the routes learned by the routers with the RIP protocol.
2. PRELIMINARY STUDY
Prior to starting this assignment the student should have knowledge on IP addressing, IP subnetting, and the
RIP (routing information protocol).
3. THEORY
RIP (routing information protocol)
4. EQUIPMENT
Computer with windows operating system.
Packet Tracer Software
5. METHODOLOGY
a. Design the IP subnetting for the network shown in figure 1. Assume that you are given the IP subnet
172.16.0.0/16. Divide this network to provide IP addresses to all the subnetworks, and devices connected in
each subnetworks. TIP: Identify the number of subnetworks, and the number of devices in each
subnetwork; this will help you to determine how many bits you need to identify hosts and subnetworks, which
is key to calculate the subnet mask. Use the network 192.168.1.0/24 for the connection between routers.
Para iniciar se realizó el montaje de la red en Packet Tracer, el cual consta de 18 Routers 1841 y 38 PCs
que se pueden ver en la siguiente figura:

b. Install and configure serial interfaces according to the instructions of the professor.
c. Configure the IP addresses on each device and router interface according to your design. Don’t forget to
save the configuration of each router using the command write. You also need to save the whole simulation
by means of the Save file as option of the Packet Tracer program.
En este paso procederemos a configurar las ip para cada uno de los PCs como se demuestra en las
siguientes figuras:
RIP Protocol
e. Enable the RIP protocol in each router. Command router rip. Commands no autosummary, version 2,
network x.x.x.x.
RIP Protocol
f. Verify that the routers have learned the routes to each network. . Command show ip route.

g. Configure static routes in the routers that did not learn the routes.
h. Use the command PING to verify the connectivity between devices connected in different subnets

i. Use labels to indicate the IP addresses that you assigned to the subnets. Save the simulation.
6. RESULTS
Include the following ítems in the report.
Explanation of your design: ip addressing and subnetting and static routes.
Screenshots showing the routes. Command show ip route.
Screenshots showing that the connectivity tests with the command PING have been successful.
Attach the simulation file.
Send the report in PDF format along with the simulation file through the Moodle platform by September 18th .
