Welcome to the English 8 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on Analyzing Message
Conveyed in a Text.
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by public educators to
assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social, and economic constraints in
schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent learning
activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help learners acquire the
needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of the

What I Need to Know
This module is designed and written to help you, young learners learn better
the English language. The scope of this module permits it to be used in many
different learning situations. The language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary
levels of learners. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard sequence of the
learning competencies for Grade 8 learners.
Objectives:
Before you proceed to the other parts of this module, check your readiness for

activities and exercises.
Read the passage below and learn what the text is all about.

Positive messages express gratitude, motivation, or encouragement. They
also
provide greetings, agreement, and congratulatory remarks.
On the other hand, how do you convey negative remarks or messages? What
expressions are used?
. To help you recognize negative messages, it is important that you are familiar
with the commonly used negative words and expressions. Read carefully the given
sample sentences.

Now, you will read another text containing expressions to convey positive and
negative messages. Take note of the words and expressions used.

Can you find a line in the paragraph that conveys positive idea?
How about a line that conveys negative idea?
As a whole, what is the overall message of the text? Is it negative or
positive?
Look closely into the statements. The line “I also appreciate the fact…,”
conveys a positive message. The word appreciate expresses gratitude.
On the other hand, the expression cannot in the statement, “...good
education which some Filipinos cannot even afford,” conveys a negative message.
The word cannot expresses negation.
As a whole, the text conveys a positive message because it shows the
importance of studying and taking responsibility in one’s studies in order to become
a responsible teenager.
