Assignment 1 Summary on Future of ICE

After developing my interest in Internal Combustion Engines (ICEs),I usually thinks what is its future? Many questions came in
my mind that what will happen to fossil fuels if these ic engine work in the same manner? And how will it fight against the
growing interest of renewable form of energy? But after reading I got my questions clarified in this regards.

As far as global warming and air pollution is concerned we have to still improve the existing methods in ic engine.we have some
other problems with ic engine that it is responsible of other pollutants, as particulate matter, NOx and HC. Although these
pollutants are not considered as a global problem, they threaten plant and animal life in a local and regional scale

With the increasing demand of transport; the steep development of cleaner and more efficient
ICEs; the availability of fossil fuels at good prices; and the high energy density of conventional
Fuels we still have the bright future of ic engine.

It is not possible to replace ICEs in majority of vehicles in the forthcoming decades,even considering the growth of plug-in
electric and hybrid vehicles due to following reasons like Refueling and recharging of batteries in rush days, Energy density is
unacceptably low for out of city driving, Durability of batteries,geopolitical issues and insecurity in the supply presents serious
issues.

According to me, we are neglecting the thing that from where these electric car batteries will be made of that’s the questions still
many people are unawared of. The issue is that electricity has to be produced, that on average 90% is being produced from non-
renewable sources of energy (with about 60% losses), and that it has to be transported (with subsequent 20% losses).
Unfortunately, renewable sources are only about 10% of the world mix and we do not have a midterm forecast of this figure
increasing significantly.
In searching for an alternative for ic engine we have hybrid vehicles like for example we have solar driven cars as well but clearly
it is not a reliable method as for may reasons Cost, Weather Dependent, Solar Energy Storage Is Expensive.

At last we can improve our ic engine as still we didn’t got any reliable energy to solve our purpose.things we can
improve is Thermal Management and Waste Heat Recovery, Mechanical Losses Abatement, Combustion and Air-path Control,
Charge Composition and Temperature Control, After-Treatment etc. Hope we will together resolve our problems for betterment
of nature and mankind.
