Event log contains any critical hardware errors (e.g. disk, memory)?
Local administrator password tested?
Network access to P2V Mgmt server tested?
Network access to destination ESX server tested?
Ensure VLAN ID portgroup exists and is working in virtual infrastructure
Create/resize paging file on OS logical drive
Check to make sure CDROM on physical server is working
Ensure there is 300 MB free space on physical server OS partition (for hot migration)
If physical server has less than 264 MB memory, plan to use imaging tool

Pre-Migration : Destination Information

VM name
Target ESX hostname
Target VC Cluster Name
VM Configuration: OS Type
VM Configuration: # of VCPUs
VM Configuration: OS Disk size
VM Configuration: Disk 2 size
VM Configuration: Disk 3 size
VM Configuration: RAM MB
Target VMFS Volume Name
Target Virtual Network Switch/Port Name
Target VM hostname (if different)
Target VM IP address (if different)

Post Migration : Cleanup

Check number of VCPUs
Check memory
Check number of disks
Check size of disks
Check network configuration to vSwitch
Check if VM is connected to network upon power up
Check if source physical machine is powered up and on the network
Check OS type of VM
Check if VM's OS disk has been reconfigured (if manually imaged)
Install VMware Tools
Set VM's hardware acceleration to Full
Set VM's time synchronization in VMware Tools to sync with ESX
Disable Windows Time Services
Change HAL device driver from multi to uniprocessor if 1 VCPU VM
Remove applications you are sure are dependant to hardware on physical server
Remove drivers you are sure are dependant to hardware on physical server
Remove devices you are sure are dependant to hardware on physical server
In VM, Start VMware Tools, Set Time Synchronization so VM sync's time with ESX server
In VM, Open up Display Properties and set Hardware Acceleration to Full

In VM, Open command window, Type 'set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1',

Type devmgmt.msc. Check Computer. Make sure that it is no Multiprocessor for a 1 VCPU
VM. Change driver to ACPI PC if it is set to Multiprocessor for 1 VCPU VM.

Remove hidden devices and old NIC, SCSI, adapters/drivers etc. for devices that you are
sure are tied to the old physical server and not needed anymore. These should be light
in color i.e. hidden devices.
