A WORLD LIKE NEVER BEFORE : COVID19 AND

ITS AFTERMATH
SUB THEME - COVID 19 and Economic Impacts : And its
aftermath.
Pandemics don’t need permits to travel around. They move voluntarily with an involuntary state
of mind. They spread like wildfires leaving dead remains behind. From the last 5-6 centuries
humanity has contested several fatal epidemics and pandemics like the famous Black Death in
the early centuries followed by plague, tuberculosis, polio, swine flu, dengue, HIV, ebola,
zika….and the latest and most vulnerable COVID-19.

COVID-19 or more popularly known as NOVEL CORONAVIRUS is a viral disease which is a

communicable droplet type infection disease. Most of the viral diseases are communicable.
COVID-19 was first identified in 2019 in Hubei (Wuhan,CHINA). Its symptoms include fever,
cough, and shortness of breath.etc.The virus mainly spreads through close contact & via
respiratory droplets produced when affected people cough or sneeze. There is no treatment or
medicines for the disease till date, As we all know prevention is better than cure, There are some
preventive measures such as isolation, frequent hand washing, avoiding contact with infected
people, using face masks, and avoiding crowded places etc. to fight with the disease.

The disease spreaded like a sand storm to almost every corner of the world leaving 719,758
infected, 33,673 dead, and still growing. The whole world is wrestling to search a cure for the
disease but till date no good news has come. The epicenter of the disease was in CHINA. If we
peep back a century ago a person sitting 11000 miles away from CHINA would not even bother
about the fatal disease because there was no transportation, since 1903 we have aeroplanes which
are becoming fast ,efficient and modern day by day .This acted as a catalyst in the spreading of
the disease as a result for eg. US- has over 1 lakh infected people although it is 11000 miles
away separated by huge stretches of ocean in between. This retrospective view points towards
the quote that “human is the inventor of its own destruction, this inventive nature of humans may
someday lead to eradication of its own race from the planet”.
Since the day one of spreading disease the whole world is showing unity by helping each other,
the WHO came in action and is still running to its extreme to counter the disease. Lockdown is
done in almost the whole world, it is the greatest lockdown ever in the history of mankind which
is affecting the global economy negatively. In such a panicking state some people want to yield
gold, people are taking advantage of the increased demand of masks, hand sanitizers, packed
foods etc. And their prices are sailing in full moon. The lockdown is the only way out which the
government can think of because till date there is no cure of this pandemic.
As in India the government issued a 21 day lockdown and co incidentally according to
psychological studies 21 days are needed to develop a habit. As a result there is a fear of people
becoming lazy as they are sitting idle within their homes and doing nothing this creates a lazy
lifestyle. This pandemic unfortunately came at the wrong time as India was showing signs of
economic growth but now in these 21 days India has borne a loss of ₹7-8lakh crore.
The impact after this storm would be worse. As the global economy has slowed down now
entrepreneurs would try to cut the jobs of the employees in order to reduce money burden on the
company and to compensate the loss which is caused due to the lockdown. This in turn would
lead to unemployment at mass scale. It seems like a chain reaction which has been ignited by
nature due to man made activities. Meanwhile the only good we can observe is the decrease in
pollution levels, cleaning of rivers. This seems as if nature is reviving itself. This also created a
sense of realisation in a human's soul.
In terms of actions, India has taken several initiatives such as work from home, online classes for
school and higher education institute’s students. Free LPG cylinder for bpl peoples, Permits for
Farmers to harvest crops, Revising monetary policy by RBI and Prime Minister relief fund which
has helped and is helping the country to cope up with expenditure. So far Indian government has
taken quick and nice steps to fight with disease. The government has also banned cash on
delivery facilities in order to reduce the fear of transmission. The government is pushing its
limits to help people, and this is only due to the support of the citizens.
On the other hand in India few people are trying to implement a religious angle on this disease.
A country who is known for its diverse culture and religion is now becoming sensational in
religious controversies, I wonder if people who are so knowledgeable do such debates and
criticism in spite of the fact that their country is in danger and they should think or do something
to cope up with this pandemic.
Above all aspects we all look forward to getting out of this storm. But the world after the storm
would be a different world, World has learned and will learn so much more from this pandemic.
People would become more alert and careful, people would now respect nature. Every country
will learn from its mistakes. As in India the government battled to implement the lockdown
because there was no existing act for pandemics, such loopholes will now be filled and the
government would now bring more attention towards the healthcare sector which is lacking
behind in India.
At the end i would like to conclude that COVID-19 is not just a disease but it is a reminder from
nature’s side to humanity that nature is and will be above all and we should respect nature.
World is an ocean of opportunities, and it is very rightly said that “When fishermen don’t go to
sea, they repair their nets--Nabil Sabio”. Stay active , stay healthy, stay safe.
